World XI is normally based on the success of teams. I.e CL success, league success. If United don't do any of these in the next five years, then players like Pogba, Shaw, Martial, Rashford, etc, probably won't be in it. Hopefully we will be back at that level in 5 years.

A wild guess would be:

De Gea (31)
Aurier (28) Varane (28) Umtiti (28) Alaba (30)
Verratti (29) Kroos (31) Pogba (28)
Griezmann (30) Dybala (28) Neymar (29)

Bailly - Varane - Stones
Kimmich - Kroos - Verratti - Pogba
Gabriel Jesus - Rashford - Martial

Though i would better go with Bendtner and 10 pieces of wood

Dembele - Maier - Neymar
Dybala

The only one i should have to talk about is Arne Maier. He is arguably the most talented U19 midfielder in Germany right now. He is a playmaker, runs alot, but he needs to work on his defensive contribution. I believe, that in 5 years from now he won't play for Hertha anymore but for one of the top clubs (Bayern...,Leipzig...)
And yes...it is less certainty and more hope, that made me put him in my "World XI". :)
But him being one of the best players in the world in 5 years from now is not more or less likely than Ødegaard being the same.

About 5 players we haven't heard of or even considered for the future right now - as always.

Thing with these predictions is that it never takes into account the fact there might be unheard of talents breaking through out of nowhere.

I'd say ..

DDG
RB CB Bailly Alaba
Verratti Weigl
Pogba
Dembele CF Neymar
we have almost the same defence:drool:

5 years is a long time, I bet there would be a few players we haven't even heard of.

I find it interesting how there's a handful of people that have mentioned Ousmane Dembele, but no one has mentioned Emre Mor yet. In my opinion, out of the Borussia Dortmund wonderkids, Mor has the highest ceiling.
I only saw him last week against Real, for only half an hour, but I was very impressed. Don't know about his ceiling yet, but he has a nice swift no nonsense way of getting past his man to make space for the cross.

Yep tbh Bellerin Carvajal and Aurier are quality players but too soon for me to be definitely sure they will be the creme de le creme and no one better will come through.

No Chance to make a serious prediction. However, we have some Players at Hand who have the potential to make it (Pogba, Martial, Rashford, Shaw, de Gea, Bailly).

These predictions always end up with a couple of picks that turn out to be way off base. I wonder who they'll be.
I would be very surprised if it was him. I just watched Torino vs Juventus. When Dybala got subbed on (he was unfit to play the whole game), he literally transformed the entire Juventus attack. He's already the best player for one of the best teams in Europe. He also seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

Then again, my two favourite players to watch are Messi and Dybala, so maybe I'm just biased in favour of short left-footed dribblers.
He has 20 games at club level. That's nothing to go by at this point. Remember Bojan after 20 games? Quaresma? Walcott? All players with good careers but not world class level but they were all immensely talented.

I'm surprised by the lack of Bale. He'll be 32 in 5 years time which isn't much whilst Dembele will be 24. I'm sure a 34 year old Messi will also still be excellent.

Bale is an injury prone player that relies on his incredible pace.

He reminds me a lot of Kaka; and we all know what happened to Kaka once injuries eradicated his speed.

Very unbalanced, but oh well

Honorable mention for Rugani, Raphael Guerreiro, Renato Sanchez, Saul, Koke, Varane and Bellerin

EDIT: Wanted to include Bailly too... tough call

De Gea
Joma Gimenez Umtiti Alaba
Verratti Pogba
Martial Dybala Neymar
Rashford Icardi

Something like that. Though messi ar 34 could easily still be in here if he stays at Barca. Will most definitely change but I would put it like that currently in terms of most promising per position at a decent age. Definitely biased with Bailly but he looks brilliant. If Mourinho can get us challenging for the CL again, then it'll probably be built off a great defence so it would make sense to have de gea and Bailly in there.

I don't see why every team has Pogba or Weigl(when did everyone start rating him as the standout dm) in it?

Only guarantee for me would be Veratti and Neymar, everyone else is a question mark.
Pogba has already been in the world 11 and will only get better. Veratti is class but if he stays at PSG then itll be tough for him. Also with weigl. It needs a holding mid. He is by far the standout holding mid in the world that isnt in his peak ages. Kimmich the only other one that came to mind but I have no idea what he even plays for bayern these days with his versatility. Plus im not sure if hes as good as weigl anyway.

I am very surprised at the amount of times Messi has been omitted from these line-ups. Barring injury or disinterest, how will he not be the best AM in the world at 34?

His level is so much higher than everyone else that even with a loss of some pace and acceleration, he'll have a lowered bar that still puts him above everyone else active, so unless some as-yet-unheard-of wunderkind appears, how will he be usurped from a World XI?

He's the most nailed on of all (barring the aforementioned conditions) from the players listed thus far, imo.

De Gea
Bellerin - Varane - Bailly - Alaba
Sanches - Pogba - Verratti
Hazard - Dybala - Neymar

I chose mostly young players but theres every chance the likes of Messi, Boateng, Neuer, etc could still be in there.

Kaka was also more talented, more skilled and with a much greater football IQ. Bale is all athleticism

Also, somebody said dybala would not turn into a WC player? News flash, he already is

There is a possibility of him retiring at this point, or, at least, moving from Europe - not because he can't still play on the highest level, but because he already achieved everything and doesn't have the same motivation anymore. It's the impression that I've got from his interviews and career path so far - and it's nothing rather than a pure speculation at this point, but he never was as motivated as Ronaldo, for example, nor did he have a selfless approach to his career like Zanetti/Giggs.

You can see how he already declined in his workrate, although still providing mindblowing performances, he already retired from the national team once and he frequently told us that he wants to end his career in Argentina, playing for his boyhood club for fun.

If he wants to - he'll be in the World XI 5 years from now without a shadow of doubt. But that's not a given

You can easily include Bailly to make it the World XIII, why stop?

Yes, there's a possibility he may be done with the game by then, but if he isn't and no bad injury befalls him, or just complete mental fatigue or disinterest, it'll take a player we've yet to see light up a stage to usurp him from being the best AM in the world.

A lot of the other players mentioned in here it wouldn't surprise me one way or another if they're not at the top of the tree five years from now.

Not a given unlike Dembele? Messi's work rate has always been very poor compared to other players. For years he's been clocking under 10km per game which is on average about 2km less than other players.

Even though he declines he'll still be a better player than probably every other player mentioned in this thread.
