I see that this time most of you accept or assume the transfer, but I wonder what Mourinho will do to.Anyway It will be painful to pay around 70m€

It won't be painful as his best years are ahead of him. It'll be another Ronaldo deal. We will be robbed.

If he is off, we shouldn't make it easy on them by taking Navas. He could easily be another Bravo in the PL.

Do you remember the last time there was a big player swap deal?
Ibra - Eto'O... nothing else come to mind.

And it's unlikely that one of the best Madrid players would be happy to go to us as a part of a business arrangement between the clubs

Which incidentally happened while Jose was the Inter manager. So maybe if he wants a certain Real player, he can tell Woody to get to work.

Outfield players are so much more important than GKs, if Madrid want to pay us £60m for him I won't be too bothered about him leaving.

Rhetorical question: When was the last time an exchange amongst top clubs actually happened? (and almost doesn't count ;))
In a nutshell, when you are dealing with the likes of DDG, Kroos, Varane (all Galactico class players), there will be no exchanges. Each player will command a transfer fee so large that it would send most clubs into administration.
I assure you, there will be no exchanges for DDG, Kroos or Varane. World record transfer fees on other hand, may be involved.

FWIW, Real Madrid already have an unbelievably good GK - Navas. A lot of you are behaving as if Madrid have already given up on Navas and bought DDG. IMO, Navas will continue as Madrid's No.1.
Real Madrid (and especially Florentino Perez) has given up on Navas. Every Spanish sports paper agrees on that. Question is who they will target come the summer. Courtois, Donnaruma and DDG have all been mentioned but are all hard buys. 3 rich clubs that do not want to get rid of their fabulous keepers and represented by agents that will make a killing on any hypothetical purchase.

I've heard Berndt Leno of Bayer Leverkusen is the backup plan if all else fails.

edit: Just a point about de Gea. It's all about CL football. If we qualify for the Cl, de Gea stays, no way Jose lets him leave then.

Feck.

de Gea is for me the best keeper in the world. Neuer is too much hipster choice for the crowd. I mean, he's very good, but he's no de Gea.

I really hope we get Donnarumma as his replacement, but if I know Mourinho correctly, we will rather drag his ball through broken glass than buying a very young player for the first team and play him. He doesn't fancy them.

So if so, Oblak could be a very good choice, even though Oblak is really poor at penalty. But a very good keeper and something, I think would fit the bill for Mourinho.

But, please Agent Dave. Just stay!

I could accept it, if we could get Modric and some money for de Gea. That would be an okay deal. ;) But I prefer de Gea staying. He's just gold for us and we saw that against Chelsea.

What's the consensus with your lot? It's a lot of money to splurge on a player you barely need.
I think that we need a new goalkeeper. If Iker had had the same amount of mistakes the debate would be much bigger.
For me those amounts should go to top attackers or brilliant midfielders, especially when they had a cheaper deal 2 years ago but I don't think that Courtois or Donnarumma would be much cheaper so I guess that it's inevitable(to pay a lot)

De Gea won't score 300 goals. You can get another good goalkeeper for much less money

Oblak has faced 29 penalties in his career and saved 9 of them. That's an excellent record of 31% saved. Better than most goalies (inc De Gea).

There was one penalty shoot out where Atletico lost and Oblack didn't save any but overall in his career, he's an excellent penalty stopper.

No he won't. But he's probably going to go down as one of the best keepers to grace the game. You'll probably have him for another 10 years or so by then £60/€60 million will look like a steal.

All the talk was about Jack Butland last time, but if Leicester go down, I'd be happy enough with Schmeichel Jr.
Whatever happened to Butland? I remeber him getting a serious injury, but can't remember when it was

IIRC there was a penalty shootout last year or the year before that, where Atletico was in a penalty shootout. Oblak barely threw himself at the shootout. He was just standing there, looked like a headless chicken.

It was clear Real didn't want him that much if you saw how long it took from them to put any decent money on the table, why would he want to go to a club that isn't fully committed to him ? And if Real didn't want to fork out 40m for him when his contract was running out, why would they fork out 80m for him now that he is under a long term contract ?
Because we would be fully committed to him this time around. I can see Flo forking out stupid money on him, too. If he does, we'll just have to hope he turns out to be 2/3 of buffon(ability+longevity)

Personally, i'd rather we get a solid gk like hart or handanovic and spend big on a consistent goalscorer or a game-changer upfront. I'm 80% sold on aubameyang or hazard at this point, though i'd prefer one of ousmane dembele, mbappé or dybala

Whenever goalies guess wrongly they look pretty stupid. Oblak's penalty record is excellent.

Well I hope I just saw him at a bad day, because that was quite awful to watch.

But in every other area, Oblak is a class keeper. He could do good, but again. He's no de Gea!

De Gea is going nowhere, not when we're having Jose, Poggers and probably Griezmann around. Furthermore it would be a huge mistake going through the trouble of replacing him. Romero played some good games but overall De Gea is on a different level to him.

Clubs such as Scouse or City show you all you need to know what it means to have a shite goalie. Keep him, it's as simple as that!

Why are you saying this when he already gave you the stats showing that he's good at penalties. Surely one shootout is more of an outlier than his entire career stats?

If we spend big this summer it'll be on Hazard, not on a goalkeeper. I may hope.
We all hope that you spend big on Hazard. About fecking time you start pestering other teams for their best players.

I was speaking from what I've seen. Not from the stats. It's just good that the stats proves he is a good penalty keeper. :)

If only it was that easy. Unfortunately, I think De Gea will leave for personal reasons.

The clause expired last summer.
Adam Crafton, who's closer than any journo to his family says Dave's opinion hasn't changed from last summer. He's very happy here and if Man Utd don't want to sell, he won't push for a transfer.
I thought buyout clauses were for the length of the contract?

If this is the case I agree with the poster who said we should demand mega bucks if there's no clause. He'd be a huge loss to us.

The clause expired after a year. Clauses come in different forms. It wasn't a typical Spanish release clause.

Hope he doesn't leave, of course, but understandable if the pull of heart and home proves impossible to resist.

But what we've seen and what we know of Romero, I'd put him as a potential #3 in the EPL behind Courtois and LLoris, so it wouldn't be as bad as last time DDG was all but gone.

Not too bothered if he leaves. We'll get a capable replacement in. We're not so reliant on our GK as we used to be. DDG hasn't regularly pulled out super saves for some time now. Just hope we get a good fee.

If he wanted to leave, he would have already left. We're going somewhere with this current setup, hasn't always been like that in the past so i
don't believe for one bit that De Gea wants out now, doesn't make sense to me. Media needs to sell papers and coming up with ridiculous stories, that's all, nothing more to see there, IMO.

I'm resigned to him leaving once Madrid decides they want him again. Given the poor form of Navas I suspect he's going home this summer.

I cannot see Madrid spending 70m euros on a keeper and I can't see us accepting anything less.

He's always been there when we needed his services, IMO. Furthermore it's not only his 'wonder saves', it's about stability at the back and him commanding the defensive line, that one can be very difficult to replace. Just take a look at City or Scouse.

The importance of the goalie has been severly underrated by some of the posters in here. It's an absolute necessity to hold on to De Gea, he's more or less irreplaceable when taking into account our ambitions. Much more difficult to match them without De Gea.

What do you mean? He only stayed because of a major feck up. He wanted to leave and he'd have been away last summer if Frans Hoek stayed. This summer if Madrid come in for him, he will be gone. No point in lying to yourself citing media bs when Madrid are clearly interested in him and he's clearly interested in Madrid.

He's already been extremely patient with us. A goalkeeper of his calibre should not be playing Europa League and mid-table football for 4 consecutive years, especially when one of the biggest clubs in his homeland need a keeper.
