Is Marcelo the best attacking left back in the world?

He's a virtual playmaker from his weird left/central mid position and wonderful with keeping possession on 50-50 challenges.

Love watching him. He's always in kamikaze mode.

"High pressed by 3 opponents right out on the touchline? I'll just Cruyff-turn out of here, launch down the wing, pepper in a few stepovers then play a square 10 yard pass to Ronaldo off the back of my heel whilst looking at the sky, That's the ticket."

I've seen all kind of full backs but no one with his quality. He lacks some defensive awareness and tends to get out of shape during the season but this guy has a lot of football in his boots, if someone like Alves or Maicon had his skills paired with a superb physical condition that would be unfair,

The closest one to that might be Alaba but Marcelo is a magical player, a true genius

He plays real football like most people would hardly do on fifa.

Would be absolutely fantastic in a 3-5-2 as left wing back IMO.

Yes, for Real Madrid he absolutely is and has been for quite a few years. I'd go further and say he is the best left back in the world. Or even the best full back. This is at club level - not sure how good he is for Brazil.
That move out of trouble on the touchline in the second half yesterday was breathtaking.

Of course he is. He's got more quality on the ball than most attackers. He's an incredibly crucial part of Madrid's left flank.

To think that a poster here said Danny Rose was better ffs.

Always thought he is as old as Alves, since they arrived at Barca and Real roughly the same period. Just had a google recheck. 'age 27'. hell, twenty-seven

Most definitely. His defending is also underrated - it is because he plays for Madrid (and obviously because of how good he is going forward) that he is afforded the freedom that he has.

To me, the top 3 LBs in the world are Luis, Alaba and Marcelo. Alaba is very well-rounded, Luís is the best at defending and Marcelo is the best offensively by far - he contributes more to Madrid's attacks than most wingers could.

Take a note Shaw.
Don't think any of our full backs would be allowed to make that run to be honest

Marcelos (and Carvajal) are pushed up on that wing all on his own, with an all time great winger in Robben to also worry about. We're too worried about the cannon fodder in the league to allow our full backs to push up like that

His attacking play and final ball is amazing. Mendy needs to do it another few seasons before he say he's close to Marcelo.

The difference between him and Alaba (who had the entire left hand flank free for the first 45 minutes) showed just how fantastic Marcelo is from an attacking standpoint.

He's the real MOTM tonight. What a performance. I lost £1000 with him passing the ball to Ronaldo at the end there as well. 50/1 Next goal scorer. Totally expected him or Ramos to score tonight as they always show up for the huge occasions

Shaw couldn't make that run if his life depended on it. Marcelo is in a different league to him.

I agree that Marcelo is the best around. He's like Evra was in that he just controls a whole flank himself.

Top performance tonight. It's one thing English sides miss about the defence.

It's crazy how often a left-back has been the most dangerous attacking player for one of the best sides in the world. He was unplayable today.

Is he better than Roberto Carlos was? I'd say so.

Been doing it for years and he's still only 28.

Our left backs are steaming turds in comparison to Marcelo. Although left back is probably our weakest position.

I'd say only Alves has been better since I've been watching.

Incredible LB, fantastic both offensively and defensively. Made Alaba look average in comparison tonight.

Madrid have the 2 best fullbacks in the world at the moment.

I would argue the have the best centreback in the world bar maybe Godin, the best fullbacks, the best centre mid and perhaps even the best CDM in the world. Jealous.

Nearly 2 hours of football and his legs had it in them to do that. Unreal.
