Warsaw...that's too far away from Edinburgh...
This is exactly what's happening. He won't leave Madrid.. He just wants them to pay his tax bill and possibly a new contract.... Nothing to see here.
What @Classical Mechanic said. IMHO the tax avoidance could have been done on Real Madrid's advice thus the Ronnies anger.

Alegedlly Perez asked newspapers not to put pictures of Ronaldo wearing a Madrid jersay in the articles about his tax case. Most Spanish papers put pictures of Ronaldo with Portugal kit.

Very interesting news, wow. I hope if he does leave that we will be in for him. What is his relationship with Mourinho like? Wonder if this will mess up the Morata deal too. It was looking like a dull summer for the muppets but this could change everything.

I think Ronaldo would win us the league comfortably. Thinking back to last season - I'm pretty sure we'd be champions if we had Ronaldo. You cannot underestimate how scared teams would be. That would allow more space for other players. There would be challenging games but even against Chelsea - we didn't fare too barely. Ronaldo would make us comfortable. It's extremely unlikely but then again I thought that french lad was a certainty to come here but didn't with a lame excuse.

Madrid might look at the situation and think....how good can Morata be? If they sign Mbappe then who knows? They might think now is the time to freshen it up. Ronaldo will never be worth more to them then now. United might be interested bearing in mind the market is crazy. No doubt about it. We've seen this a million times but who knows? I think he would give everyone such a boost and if you think positive then maybe you give yourself better possibilities.
He might make us stronger, but what if we spend huge money on him and he got an Ibrahimovic's kind of injury after just 2 or 3 months and he has to recover for 6 or 8 months? That's 1 season lost and consider he's 32 year old, he might come back a different player with less effectiveness.
It's a risky move, let PSG get him, we can build a great team without him.

If there is any reason we won't try and sign him, I doubt it would be that.

Obviously we'd want him back, it's not really up for debate. Money isn't an object for united.

What if indeed...but that sort of thinking will not win you trophies. If there's even a remote chance we could get him we'd be stupid not to try.

Obviously Real Madrid aren't going to sell us their top 2 scorers last season whilst also not getting De Gea.

So sick of this. I won't even entertain the thought. Who cares, he's either getting a new contract (which is what is happening) or he's heading off to PSG or whatever.

Claim the insurance.

This is no reason for not spending big on a player.

Give peas a chance.
If nothing else this past year has shown just how much of a powerhouse Ronnie still is. He's a freak of nature and I definitely think he as 2-3 years at the very top still left in him, so I'd take him back in a heartbeat.

Yesterday I was thinking that he'd stay at Madrid a few more seasons and then retire to Miami if Becks gets his shit sorted out. Today I'm daring to hope that we might see him wearing the number 7 for us again. That being said, I'm always super dubious when reports like this come out, so I'm not getting too excited just yet!

Record (Portuguese newspaper) just reported that Ronaldo isn't going back to Madrid.

http://www.record.pt/internacional/real-madrid/detalhe/cristiano-ronaldo-ja-nao-volta-a-madrid.html (sorry, its in portuguese)

Seems a bit vague but it says something along the lines that he already decided that he isn't going to play for Madrid next season since he has no intentions of going back there.
Imo it looks like pure speculation with no hard evidences to support that claim but if it's true, it makes this summer way more interesting.

Theory of course but..

Pros: Ronald would win us the next 2-3 league titles and a shot at the CL (especially with Jose).
Cons: Money he would cost fee+wages we could sign both Mbappe & Dembele who are likely to be the top 5 best players in the world.

As much as I love Ronnie and want instant success, I believe the cons are more favorable long term than the prons. Even if they're unlikely to sign.

He seems a smart guy so I think he'll know going back is usually not a good idea in life. Pogba was different he didn't have a legacy here.

There's no way this is happening but if it were to I can't understand how people wouldn't want the second best player in the world and the best goalscorer of all time in a United side yearning for someone to score some bloody goals.

That could happen to anyone. We cannot think that way.

So, are you saying we shouldn't sign him because there are two better options we won't sign?

We ain't getting Mbappe and if we sign Ronaldo, then we'd have a bigger chance of getting Mbappe lol. It's a double edged sword. We should focus on Dembele.

Mourinho and Ronaldo are no longer on speaking terms.

As soon as we hired Mourinho, we kissed goodbye to Ronnie ever coming back (absolutely fine by me). But they fell out at Real Madrid and a lot of bad sentiment has passed between them since.

If Ronaldo's leaving Real - and the story should be believed that he is deeply upset with the club - I can't see him coming here.
Jose is nothing if not pragmatic, signing Ronaldo goes a long way to helping him put the club back on top.

You got to love CR7, hes just won them 2 UCLs back to back, of course he is going to pull their pants down and make the feckers pay!
He does this all the time, no way he is going to pay his own tax bill, Perez will pay it

Same old nonsense every year.

However it's interesting to put yourself in the position of Madrid.

1. Would you turn down any bid and keep the current team together for the next 2/3/4 years trying to maximise the chance of Champions League wins but ending up having to replace major players all in one go?
2. Would you accept the amount of money Mbappe would cost to buy him?
3. Would you accept a ridiculous bid like 200/250m?

It's an interesting one because all great teams have to break up at some point. But the spine of Ramos/Marcelo/Kroos/Modric/Benzema/Bale/Ronaldo will all be early-mid thirties in 3 years.

This is certainely not about a new contract. Ronaldo extended just a few month ago an Madrid are not in the business of extending twice a year. I don't think that he will really leave though, he just wants the club to help him out with authorities.

No way should we be going anywhere near this.

The guy's been a brilliant player but he's 32 now and must be on the decline. Plus he's got this tax case hanging over him (although he'll end up getting a fine and a suspended sentence, as Messi has).

Even at his age he'd cost £60m in today's market, so if we bought him we'd have allowed Real to have him for his peak years for a net fee of £20m. I know we've done a lot of daft things recently but this would be the ultimate cock-up.

Let PSG or one of the other plastic clubs take him. We're better off concentrating on young, up-and-coming players who could one day emulate Ronaldo. The ship has sailed on the real thing.
He'd cost much more than 60 millions. And he will win us a few league titles even in "decline", which are basically priceless for us

Remember the '' i'm sad but I don't know why '' episode.

Anyone that believes this deserves to be lied to and subsequent heartache when he signs a new contract.
Some people never learn. I'm surprise there are serious discussions about him returning again.

He'll get a new contract and Real will pay for his taxes and it's over. Real will never let him leave.

I agree, Real are a circus and everyone involved is overly dramatic about everything. Ronnie is having a little strop, they'll play it out in the papers for a few days and then everything will go back to normal.
