It's for the next round, though. Not the one he's playing it in. If he opts to play it now, it will take effect in R4.

ETA In other words, he'll be 5th in the picking order regardless - the way it works is that it effectively cancels out the true box for that round and replaces it with whatever box he picks. So, the whole round becomes a one-box affair for everyone involved, including himself. So, in order to play it effectively, he has to make sure he has nothing to lose directly from playing it.

The best he can hope for is to do damage to as many managers as possible without taking a hit himself - and the longer he waits, the more complicated that assessment becomes: He has to go through the rosters to check who would lose who, etc. And make sure he hasn't fecked up in terms of his own roster.

And, again, on the flipside - the earlier he plays it, the easier it will be for the affected managers to recover.
Yeah but it's better to be 5th than 11th in the pecking order ;)

Think he'll play it as soon as he lands on a shit box. He'll pick a player to fit one of the 4 criteria and feck him off the next round.

Let's say skizzo wants to play now his card for the next round and choose a specific box.

It will apply to everybody before the start of the 4th round and punish everybody, including himself potentially ??

I suppose the other part that will punish some managers more than others is the fact they may land on a box with some great options, but miss out because instead they're dropping players :)

Yes - he could do that. He needs to pick another player from the same - crap - box to replace said player, though, doesn't he? I don't see how it would work (to his advantage): He lands on a crap box and picks a player whose only merit is that he can be fecked off next round. He then plays his jackpot card, fecks said player off next round - and picks...who? Has to be a player from the same box - a box that had nothing to offer in the first place.

True. But that could apply to yourself as well.

If I have 2 players who won the Champions League (or wc), I would have the opportunity to choose the player I want out?
Yes.

But the key point is that you have to replace that player with someone who a) does not qualify for the “drop” criterion itself and b) does qualify for the criterion/box of the dropped player.

You land on the Tramp Champ box. You choose to drop Mickey Mouse, whom you landed on the Traitor box. You now have to pick a player to replace Mickey Mouse who a) did not win the CL and b) never played for his country.

Was just watching the final between Schalke and Bayern and this caught my eye.

4.40

Beckenbauer doing keepy ups in a serious match before it was cool (Muhren against Real being the famous one or Baxter who did it before against England in a friendly), and the score was 1-1 with Bayern hardly dominating

It's clear. Thanks.

Last but not least, I assume the 'champions league box' is likely to involve 'European Cup'*

Isn't it possible, in theory, to end up with less than 11 players here?

I mean, you replace the ones you have to drop rather than adding to your squad – if that happens four times, you end up short.

And it is theoretically possible for that to happen, no?

EDIT Unless we just keep playing, i.e. going round the board, until everyone has 14 players (or a minimum, for that matter).

But if it's 14 rounds, it should be possible (for a manager to be unlucky enough to end up short of 11 players).

Ok, I'm officially drunk. So perfect time to announce the next jackpot.

JACKPOT #2

Who is EAPs favorite non United footballer?

If no one gets it right, I'll pick my favorite from the selected list.

Prize: The 'Cut it out' Card!

Winner can restrict the pool to any single club, manager or Nationality. The prize criteria applies in addition to the Box criteria. I.e. pick players who comply with both the box criteria and winners choice.

(Has to have played for/under club, Nationality or Manager as winner chooses)

All players including the winner will have to apply the restrictions. Applies to round after the one played.

Managers can choose to bypass this and use Default Criteria instead.

Edit: No debates based on my comments in previous thread. My choice is final.

Given the nature of your prizes, you should probably introduce some kind of punishment for not submitting - 'cause it might be tempting to simply not submit.

I mean, what you gain is the chance to slap a random lock on a box you have no idea about. In theory you could easily feck yourself over more than your opponents.

I like it - don't get me wrong. But since the "prize" is hardly that - more like a potential pain in the ass - you should make it compulsory to enter.

I had that thought. It was my intention to suspend the injury round if players used their prizes. If not I'd just add more 'surprises' of my own. But then, players still need the choice as it's a prize. You all determine your own destiny...with a bit if nudge from me.

If I had my way this drafting will be GOAT light and shy of usual suspects.

And yeah, non use will have it's own consequences

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
Yep.

In theory you can - also - pick from good boxes with a certain priority in mind, i.e. opt for players who didn't win the CL/WC (or played with Patzzo's boys as that list expands), but that gets absurd fast. Not least since you could lose anyone, randomly, through injury anyway.
I picked Vierchowod partly with that in mind. He would have been on my shortlist for that box regardless, and I don't want to lose him, but I really don't want to lose Gullit or Brehme and Vierchowod protects them for now. I wouldn't fancy telling the mad bastard I effectively picked him as a human shield though :nervous:
