Save his career? What? He is done, he's had a career and now it's over. He doesn't need to save anything. Can just carry on doing what he wants as he pleases.
He should be paying David Moyes a cut for getting him that contract. That article saying he can trigger a further year on his contract has got to be wrong surely?! How on earth could we leave ourselves that vulnerable? Was Ed on drugs when he agreed to this shit?! He should have his pay frozen for making such a dumb ass deal.
In the meantime, if true that Rooney wants to hang around then let him collect his money (it's his right) but move on by first leaving him at home - no taking up a spot on the pre-season tour. Furthermore, tell him he won't be making the bench under any circumstances.
I was ambivalent before and thought he should remain club captain at least if he's still here, but have changed my mind - strip him of it completely.
It's believable. We offered him a contract guaranteeing him a job after retirement ffs. That article saying he can trigger a further year on his contract has got to be wrong surely?! How do we know Moyes didn't benefit from it under the quiet? Moyes loves money as much as Rooney, so the cynical side of me wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen. He should be paying David Moyes a cut for getting him that contract.
Do not want him as an ambassador. Would be better to pay him off and tear up the dam contract. That man should never represent our club. It's believable. We offered him a contract guaranteeing him a job after retirement ffs.
Because since Ferguson left we have been managed appallingly. We let a declining fat scouse twat bend us over take what he wanted again. That article saying he can trigger a further year on his contract has got to be wrong surely?! This, Rooney will have earned more than the likes of Robben in his career.
Let that sink in.
Rooney is the United and England all time leading goal scorer - let that sink in.This, Rooney will have earned more than the likes of Robben in his career.
Let that sink in.
I believe it.I don't believe that he has the option, surely it's more the other way round. Even if he does have that option and activates it the club can just let him sit in the stands.
AgreedHe is the personification of the club's demise.
If he sticks around as a useless parasite for 2 more years he may become the first hated club ambassador ever. Though I doubt that even two more years of this shit would make his biggest supporters turn on him. They'll just say he's entitled to the money and deserves respect for the goal records etc.I believe it.
I won't be surprised if he took the option once it was signed. The club announced his contract runs till 2019.
This club was the very definition of desperate when Rooney signed that contract.
We were 7th in the table and were on the verge of civil war among fans over the manager.
Woodward would have done anything to get what could have been perceived as a win.
We offered him a contract guaranteeing him a role as a club ambassador when he retires.
I've never heard anything like that before.
There are plenty of clubs in the north west that would have him if he lowered his wage demands. Bottom line is it's his choice if he stays or goes. We'll see if his mates in the media are right about him just wanting to play football.I'm wondering whether part of it is the fact that Coleen is very into being close to her family and doesn't want to move away from the area. Ideally Everton would have been place for him to go...but obviously they don't want him!

Sorry to break it to you.I hate Gary Neville even more for write that piece of sh!t last week.
He has one year remaining on his current contract isn't it ?
(Don't tell me there are two more years left).
PhewSorry to break it to you.
2019 is the year.

To play football? Maybe have a bit of personal pride in himself and his career? At the end of the day he's owed another year on whatever he's on. Why the feck should he just walk away from that?
Phew

Think most people would drop that for 30m to be fair.To play football? Maybe have a bit of personal pride in himself and his career?
This is absolutely unbelievable.
It's funny.
The majority of the caf and fans in general don't realise he has two years left.
The meltdown when reality starts to sink in will be epic.
Michael Owen is a LFC ambassador?! After spending years at Man Utd? That's too funny.Surely another scouse twat in Owen holds this title firmly with Liverpool.
If you stick too long you see yourself become a villan when you dont deserve it any more.
This seems like a reasonable turn of events. Until it is confirmed by reliable sources I refuse to believe that Rooney can unilaterally extend his contract until 2019.I'm still absolutely convinced the final year is the club's option. All the journalists who appear to have been briefed by the Rooney camp and the ones that have been apparently briefed by the club are all saying that the club hold the keys to that final year.
I think the most likely scenario is that Rooney stays this summer and gets his captaincy removed by Mourinho who will no longer give a shit about whether it looks like he and the club are trying to push him out as they've done everything they can to allow him to leave with dignity and they will no longer worry about loyalty payment disputes.
Rooney will struggle to get any minutes whatsoever and in January will agree a deal to move for free in the summer and the club will allow him to leave straight away on loan "so he has a chance of getting in the England squad".
