It's not because they would not sell to us , but because it's their last chance to sell morata for that price and get money for mbappe

Inevitable ending once we signed Lukaku. I would have preferred Morata, but neither were a really outstanding choice in my opinion, both came with concerns - so not regretting massively.

Wonder if this accelerates Costa's exit. We also may be bringing in another Spanish striker in Llorente.
He's one I wanted as a back up when I didn't think we would go after a first choice target man.

Our was 75 m euros total including addones
So something like 65+10? Bah, Real were just dicking around with us. Nonsense from Perez as per usual. Still had some hope that we might pull off the deal ourselves, especially since EVERYONE on the market is massively overpriced.

I almost feel that we couldn't get Morata without losing DDG. In isolation, I would've picked Morata over Lukaku. However the choice of: Morata + cash in the back or DDG and Lukaku, second option every time.

They may have wanted more from us than they did from Chelsea. Once we passed on Morata, Chelsea were pretty much the only realistic option and Madrid would've forfeited making any money at all if they didn't lower the price.

I can agree with this from our perspective as well. I feel Belotti is/was the best choice for Chelsea ahead of Lukaku or Morata.

Excited to see how this works out and it's always fun signing a new striker!

Have I missed something? All this because of one source? One that's said we're in for Fabinho when we're clearly not

De gea was off the table, he's more expensive than morata. Real want mbappe money

Yep pretty much.

But morata dint get his preferred dream move .

That's madrid, they use players like toys rather than assets , players choice can go to hell according to them.

That's why we let go Ronaldo but won't get any favours. And we should learn from that.

De gea should sign a new deal this summer.

It's a strange situation tbh, Morata is a more of traditional United forward imo while Lukaku is more of a traditional Chelsea forward but both players ended in the opposite directions.

But then I remember we have Jose so anything who was traditional to Chelsea before is now applicable to us.

Won't lie, I really wanted him here, and while I am happy with Lukaku now, I would have preferred Morata to stay at Real/go to Milan rather than move to the PL.

That said, between Lukaku and Morata, even Chelsea fans have to admit that Morata is the riskier signing. Lukaku will guarantee goals in the PL. Unfortunately I expect him to do very well there. But let's wait and see.

Jose with 15 years at United, next best thing to fergie. Even fergie had difficulty beating him when Chelsea were at their peak.
Although I would love if Jose absotbs some fergie principles in gambling and attacks with same vigour.

Any chance Jose rings up Ed to tell him to match the Chelsea offer? Would be hilarious. Can't believe Ed will let the no.7 shirt go empty for another season, especially with the marketing potential behind it.

Don't think Chelsea needed that much fixing. They are champions, they score for fun. We got a striker, but he will only get the same goals that Ibra got. We got a CB that will take time to settle in. There is still a lot wrong with us and they way other clubs are dealing with us, those problems are not going away.

We will need a player who'll build up now from the middle and it will be griezmann

I bet both United and Chelsea fans are completely split amongst themselves as to whether they are happy with who they got compared to who the other team got.

Morata has been good for some very big clubs yet has never been a first teamer and is not proven in England.

Lukaku has been scoring for fun in the PL for many years but the only big club he has been at he was sold.

Both are the same age. I reckon Lukaku will score more goals but Morata will be very impressive. It's very difficult to say who I would prefer but I was leaning towards Morata at one point.

The thing is we need goals and Lukaku seems to have been the preference of both us and Chelsea so we have to be happy.

Geez, Griezmann really ruined our summer plans with his insistence to stay at AM. Won't be surprised if he even arrives in January to give us a push towards the second half of the season, even though he might be cup-tied for UCL.

Didn't we pull out of the Morata deal and used it as a smokescreen to get Lukaku on the quiet leaving Chelsea unawares.

If that is the case then why is everyone peeved off with Real, also we have IMO a better and proven PL goalscorer and more importantly it will bring out the best out of Pogba.

Because Mourinho said that we were after him. The smokescreens are in people's heads.

Yep given the similar prices being quoted I think we made a call and went with Lukaku. Both strikers will be good but Mourinho wants Lukaku for his system.

Lukaku said he knew he was coming to us ages ago, so we definitely wanted Morata as well. Although at the back of my mind they could have been a fallback option for each other, because we supposedly wanted Griezmann as well. I was actually hoping for all three to blow teams out of the water. Bugger defending.

The Morata rumours really only started up after Griezmann decided to stay though, so it seemed more to me that Morata was our back-up "no.7" so to speak. Come on Ed, throw in a matching bid, we have the Griezmann money stashed away anyway. :D

Yeah, for absolutely no good reason I have this idea that Mourinho would like to play in 4312.

Of course Jose is going to say that when asked a question about him. He can't very well say, "Well, we were really just fecking with Alvaro's head all along in order to needle Madrid and secretly undermine Chelsea's chase for Lukaku."

I'm sure we were in for Morata to an extent, but always as a Plan B if Lukaku didn't happen.

If we had got him and Chelsea had got Morata there would be cries we should have got Lukaku.

Grass is always greener somewhere else.

oh and Madrid are cnuts.
