Does spurs lack of activity not concern you ?
Not really. I'm sure we'll make one or two signings. We are probably waiting re. Barkley for Everton to see if they can get more money than Spurs are offering from a club that the player is willing to go to.

Well your manager has made comments today, so there must be slight concerns.
I think his comments were made in comparison to City, following our recent friendly loss against them.

Only the day before that he said: "We are calm but we have a very clear idea of who we want and what we need to do to achieve our target. I want to say to our fans ‘don’t be worried’ because today there are a lot of rumours around. We will move on the market, sure, and we will be competitive like last season, sure.”

But to think that the transfer window lends itself to making last minute deals for key players on other teams' squad is a bit naive, no? Where is the selling club going to find a last minute replacement for the key player you are taking from their squad. That's why there IS an urgency to make early moves in the window. Just go ask Arsenal how their Lemar transfer is proceeding, as they waited too long to make their move and Monaco may not sell even if their 80m valuation is met now that they've sold 3 key players from last year.
We're not necessarily looking for key players from other team's squads because our first XI is already strong. Barkley is an exception (in terms of his being a key player for Everton), but then Everton have little choice but to sell him now since he apparently won't sign a new contract and they can't afford to see him go for nothing in the winter window.

I can't get too excited about it but it is a good signing. £35m for 29 years old, im sure we could have unearthed some decent talent with a resale for that.

Why do so many suddenly care about resale value? It's another one of those recent buzzwords that gets thrown around on forums. It's so nerdy and weird.
True. Why can't we just think that somebody might want to stay with us until the end. Not exactly wanting our players to be loyal to us or the thinking that other clubs are bigger than us, so players will obviously want to use us as a stepping stone.

Why the fecking hell would United want resale value? We're not Everton.
LOL. Now we have an established central midfield (when was the last time you could say that?!) we can at least invest in a couple of kids in the next few transfer windows. Takes the pressure / risk out of it.

Just regarding the fee, seems to be £35m up front with a further £5m in potential addons. About as good a deal as you could get for any 1st XI Chelsea player imo
How did we pull this off total of 40m including add on even in this market. Great job Ed

Not at current level of excitement but I was pretty confident in our midfield when we signed Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger to go with Herrera.

The only system we've played with 3 at the back is the 3-5-2 though, so a 3-man midfield. Real question if we're using that setup is whether we use a more attacking cam like Mkhi or a more traditional 3-man midfield with Matic, Herrera, and Pogba
I think it will depend on who we will be against, Mkhi is pretty shit in crunch games and Mata tends to struggle to dominate games so against the top 6 we could see Herrera-Matic-Pogba with Lukaku and Rashford/Martial up top then Perisic, if it happens will be on the LWB. With ball playing CBs in Lindeloff and Tuanzebe we now have the tools to effectively play a 3-5-2 which allows us to have two strikers in and around the box, three in midfield and genuine width to boot.

I don't expect it to be our main system even if we sign Perisic. Pretty sure we will go with 4-3-3 as our 1st choice option. I think we might see Mkhi moved to the cam role and Matic dropped for easier games while more difficult games will likely see Matic playing. For games where we do play 3-5-2 I think we'll similarly decide based on strength of opposition. A lot of rotation between our wingers I'd say, including Perisic. Matic also subject to rotation. Certain starters are Valencia, Bailly, Pogba, Lukaku. Herrera, Rashford, and de Gea play next most games imo (add Perisic to that list if he signs).

I know but I think we will struggle to put two consistent performers on the wing particularly looking at the demands a 4-3-3 places on wingers in terms of goal output. A lot depends on how Martial, Mkhitaryan and Mata do early on in the season. I think Valencia and Shaw/Mitchell have potential in wing back positions whilst Bailly, Lindelof and Tuanzebe is a pretty technical back 3 that can build up play from the back, then Herrera, Pogba and Pereira have a nice balance of technique and tenacity to fucntion well as options for a midfield 3 with Matic sitting. In easier games Matic rests and an AM comes in with Herrera playing DM.
As things stand right now our squad is more suited to a 3-5-2 whilst we need a top signing for the wide roles to be effective in a 4-3-3 or its variants imo.

Just thought that DDG and Tony are now the last starters of Fergie's title winning team .. crazy that.

They're stupid if they don't sell, watch his value plummet next season. Must be no:1 in the most overrated top 10 league.
This is nonsense honestly. Coutinho's a brilliant player. If anything he's hugely underrated by non-Scousers. Without Coutinho that Liverpool team would have no chance at the top 4. He'd be irreplaceable and there's absolutely no way they will sell him imo, nor should they. I'd be delighted if they were crazy enough to let him go.

Totally agree with this, on his day he's awesome but there's about 3 of them a season. How he dodges the 'inconsistent' tag I'll never know

His a great player, no doubt about that.

It's not easy to keep a player who wants to go anymore. The power is not only with club. If the player want to leave and the fee is huge, it can be dangerous to keep the player. A unsettled player can become shit for the rest of the group and himself.

Contract details for Aurier and United. 5yr with 4.5-5m euros per year salary. Trial is on 7th August, depends on it.
