PSG have been signing star players for years and yet can't make even the SF of the CL. With or without Neymar, I don't see them as a bigger CL contender than Juve, Barca, Madrid or Bayern.
None of the players they've signed so far are of Neymar's level.

That's not true too. He nearly joined Real too. He wanted to go to a top club in Europe and Barcelona paid the money. Nothing more.
Reports were that Real Madrid offered more money. He opted for Barca, because of a willingness to play with Messi.

It's a pity Monaco sold their team. Would have been great to watch PSG end up with just a pointless domestic Cup again.

Just watching Real Madrid TV and all they're doing is taking the piss from all the Neymar-noise

Neymar who at his best should be better than 35 year old Zlatan; Cavani (will score goals), Di Maria, Verrati, Lucas Moura, Rabiot, Draxler, Kurzawa....Pretty strong to me. They may sell some though. Monaco were even a threat with their young team. At one point Neymar was rated 3rd best in the entire world and many believe he will one day be the best. In effect they have signed potentially the next best player in the world. Why would they not be a contender? If PSG signed Suarez, would you not take them seriously?

Just signing the best players isn't going to be enough imo. The others are better teams overall and I expect that to show in the CL. This is a PSG team that couldn't beat Arsenal over 2 legs and can't even make it to the SF. Neymar is brilliant but I don't think he'll make them contenders himself.

Not A chance in a million years, he will never be considered the best in the world playing in crappy French league. The standard is shocking.

It's a huge step back from Barcelona in football terms, you'll barely even hear of Neymar anymore until PSG play an English team in the champions league.
The award never valued domestic form. Neymar winning the CL or WC can possibly get him World Player of the year.

Did a Barca fan tell you that?
No. Those were the reports back then.

Since Real Madrid offered more money as reported, why would Neymar join Barcelona then? He idolized(and probably still does) Messi. Just look back at the reports then.

I'm not disputing it, just find it very very unlikely given what his dad clearly prioritizes.

Well Barcelona did pay his dad a lot of money for the transfer as well. Probably another(could be the main) factor for his move to Barca. I don't remember if Real were willing to pay that.

It was very dodgy.

They couldn't beat Arsenal with just Cavani as their main forward. Now they have Cavani and one of the worlds elite attackers. Man for man are they much worse than Juve or Atletico? They are banking on Neymar fulfilling his potential. Remember, on their day, they can spank a Barcelona but thanks to Neymar (ironically) and some dodgy decisions, they didn't get through to play Juve in the quarters. Might one of the worlds elite attackers shift the balance more in their favour? I mean Juve have sold Bonucci, Monaco have been dismantled, Barcelona will still be a favourite (regardless) but why should they now be far ahead of PSG, considering they just nicked one of their prized assets?

Under a tree.
He must be on course to be the first billionaire footballer, in dollars at least. A base wage, 7 year contract is estimated to earn him almost $400m, not including bonuses, image rights or endorsements

Because the rest of the Barca side is still better? Especially you-know-who, one can even argue even Suarez is currently better than Neymar.

They didn't look much better last season and they've just now lost Neymar.

You're basing the whole thing on ONE game? Do you also think Juve are much better than Barca?
Not really just 1 game. Barcelona's team has gotten progressively worse since their treble in 2015 through poor transfers and players declining.

They've just lost their 2nd best player IMO in Neymar. While they've got a lot of money to spend, their transfers have been so poor the past 2 seasons, it's hard to see them improving that much personally.

Reports that he already had the medical with Real but Real decided not to pay the money. Perez said, he would cost Real 150€ million (and everyone know how complicated it was between Santos, Barcelona and the agents).

Maybe Real offered Neymar a higher wage, but there was never a deal because of the price. So he chose Barcelona.

I'm not doubting Barca 2017 are worse than Barca 2015, but Barca 2017 are still better than PSG 2017.

This transfer fee changes football forever, City and clubs alike have licence to spend exactly what they want now.

The Pogba deal now sounds cheap!

Let's wait and see what Uefa say about FFP next season. FFP was never designed to stop transfers, but make sure clubs come close to balancing their books. If PSG do not do that and Uefa let them be, then, FFP is dead.

They spoilt his dad and his greed magnified until he wanted another go. So there you have it.

Nope. The transfer gets amortized for the duration of the contract, so despite that they pay all of it at once, in the books it will be ~45m over 5 years.

No bans, no breach of FFP.
Correct. But don't forget the 70m Euros in wages.

It's about 20% of their turnover.

Not necessarily. Their revenue is higher than City's, and City has spend around as much this season too, and no one is mentioning the breach of FFP for them.

Both will be fine, especially if they sell some players.
I believe half of their revenue is from spobsorship deals. Incredibly disproportionate to other clubs.

Sham sponsorships through the owners.

City's revenues are actually legit and would be the same without their owners.

Their transfer spending obviously wouldn't though.

The Buyout money must go in PSG's books leagally.
The buyout money isn't a problem, it will be 5 time 40m on the books, the problem is the wage, they need to get rid of a big wages, Di Maria and Matuidi will be enough.

With what was really paid to all the different parties originally as well as 'loyalty' (lol) bonuses etc., Barca have probably already paid over 200m for Neymar.
