I might get criticized for this but Mourinho is just been negative. Too much respect for real madrid from our part.
We should press them in midfield and play a bit higher up the pitch.
Also bring on Martial or rashford to run at their defence.

Real is just clearly better than us. We play well for a few minutes. Lukaku and Pogba has been annoying and not done much. Matic does really well, but even he struggles. Valencia key to our attacks like normal.

Hope to get Martial and Rashford on and hopefully we can improve going forward a bit.

Kroos is a joy to watch. Real as a team attack so much better than us. It feels they can attack you in so many ways and from all areas of the pitch. Well they are the best in the world so nothing new.

For all the people moaning at those moaning at Lingard's selection, what has he done other than getting booked?
Exactly. I can't remember him touching the ball. Which, for a midfielder, in a key position, is quite a problem. We're playing with 10-men, 9 if you count Lindolof, 8, if you count Darmien. With the officials, it's 8 vs 12.

We were good in parts but that 15 min period from about 15 up to the break they were a level of two above. Other than that period quite ok.

Matic the best of our group.

Encouraged by this showing. I think the heat is definitely a factor, potentially for both sides, although Madrid are the more efficient team in possession. Why we're playing somewhere where the conditions aren't ideal I don't really know, but i guess money. Ruins the intensity of the game, but hopefully will condition the players better for the weekend.

First ten there were some excellent link ups and we looked genuinely threatening, then Real's quality pushed us into our own half. Isco's a bit good. We've shown a little at the end of the half.

We're only a bullshitgoal away from being level.

Already turning on him pal? fecking hell get a grip. It's a glorified friendly against one of the best teams in the fecking world.
Turning? Never liked him much in the first place and was far from thrilled when we moved on from Morata. Hoping to be proved wrong at some point, certainly wont happen if we can't cross the ball... regardless of who we play

I don't know what you lot were expecting. You've not played a team this good for years!
If the amazing Premier League brigade is correct, we play about ten of them each season.

You can tell there's a sense of Madrid's squad having a lot more chemistry vs United.

United playing new players and trying a new formation means there'll definitely be things that need ironing out. Whereas Madrid players have it down to the tee and know what to do.

...no big deal honestly, should be expected. Hoping United come out with a bit more urgency in the 2nd half.

They are much better than us.. We finished 6th in the league, they are easily the best side in Europe..

I had no expectations, and i havent really been too disappointed.
Must be a sad way to support/be a fan of a Clun when there are games where you have no expectations...

Kroos and Modric are a class apart. You can see the gulf in class between the two sides. Herrera, Pogba and Lingard have been awful. Smalling and Lindelof looking shaky as expected.

Matic has been very good though. Lukaku receiving hardly any service. Sub Lingard and bring somone on.

People are actually calling Pogba shit? Wow.

See if you were saying that about Darmian or Lingard I'd agree but saying that about our only world class outfield player is just madness.
He's not shit, he's a world class box to box midfielder playing as a no.10. where he's pretty shit.

Mourinho's masterplan: look as unthreatening as possible in the first half, stay in the game, let them think the game's easy, wait for when we inevitably take the hands off the wheel, pounce on our incoming dumb mistakes

I think the formation is wrong, jose knows smalling and lindelof wont keep Real out and tried a 3-5-2 which dint work. 4-3-3 with Martial and Rashford flanking Lukaku should be tried in the second half. They are making us run more and pass less, We are losing to Cl winners and i dont think we are at that level at all but we need to show some fighting spirit. This is too tamish.

Does Lukaku has low IQ? Why did he touch the ball when Herrera stole the ball from Kroos?

That should have been a clear cut chance...

They're lot better unfortunately. On paper our midfield is good but compared to theirs...
We lack width but people were thanking god we're not getting Perisic so there you go.

Midway through that 1st half we lost all composure. Certain players couldn't pass this ball straight. We were panicky, whacking it into touch. The water break allowed Mou to settle the team down but it's not been right mostly.

The lack of width has been puzzling. I've seen both Matic and Herrera look to the left flank and nobody has been there. The game is crying out for Martial. Pogba is pulling out wide and it ain't working. I also think Rashford would offer more wide right than Mhki.

What makes match threads even worse are posts like yours, where you constantly moan about the people discussing the match.
I have no problem people with posting about and criticizing us, we deserve it. But would you not agree that some of the posts in this thread have been extreme kneejerk given we're playing a fairly meaningless game against the best team in the world. We're playing shit, I agree, but this match thread is one of the worst I've seen in recent memory, especially given the situation

Not the worst first half, except for the period where they got their goal.

Matic has been great. Worrying that we still look every bit as toothless in attack as we did for the second half of last season, but we're obviously playing a good team. Would've hoped to see us more inventive, though.
It truly hasn't. I genuinely think we have prima donnas on here who aren't even watching the game. With the exception of that 10/15 minute in the middle of the game it's been pretty even, with us being the better team in the last 15.

Can someone please explain to me why Pogba refused to pass it to Mkh when it was 3 vs 2 ??? What's the rationale behind that decision making ?
Someone mentioned it earlier here, but in big games he sometimes seems to try Hollywood stuff. Might be that, or that he didn't see him.

Looks to me guys, that if you put everything down to the gulf in quality, you'll never improve. I've seen Sevilla play much better vs Madrid than you do now. Doubt you can make a case about Sevilla being better than United. It's about the attitude as well, and about the poor tactics on display from Mourinho.

You don't get to put everything down to the 'gulf in qualty'. How much did you spend in the last 3 years? Must be over 250m.

Matic has looked good, slotting in very nicely with good defensive play and underrated ballplaying ability. Generally we've been ok, particularly early on (from what I read) and towards the end of the half when we got on the ball a bit more.

Looking second best to Real is no shame whatsoever, however I'm disappointed at some of our decision making and passing. Though he's been guilty of poor choices himself we look too reliant on Pogba to create with no-one bar Matic doing anything of note in midfield. Cut the sloppiness and stupidity and get a little more of a clue in the final third and I'll be happy going down fighting to a team who are on another level to us.

We have had chances. Pogba should have passed that three on two. Lukaku should not have played that Herrera interception.

No shit Sherlock. Question is why no manager improved that yet. Real is miles ahead
Why? You have to play total football in posession and build from the back , and keep the high press. Lvg did 70 % of that we just had to build on it.

Pogba is not a rational player. He doesn't do the simple things. It's the same reason he can play a pass over 60 yards perfectly using the outside of his weaker foot, but if you asked him to pass the ball 4 yards, he crumbles under the pressure.

I don't think we were that bad. Madrid are better than us, but we're not getting battered.

Need another attacker out there. Rashford or Martial. Someone who will run at them.

Basically another confirmation that if AV doesn't get up the pitch, we are shit because we dont have an isco type player to break down a stacked defense so we rely of Tony V to stretch the pitch and we know Darmian doesn;t do that on the left.

Modric, isco and kroos are world class, no surprise there. Our attack letting us down, lingard focusing too much on the defensive part I think and doing basically nothing in attack, not even appearing out on the left wing when there's loads of empty space. Just shouldn't be starting in a game like this, woefully short of the level needed. Hopefully Martial comes on asap for him.

Lukaku isolated, but with a few dumb moments (especially taking it when he was offside). Pogba started well then reverted to last seasons form after Madrid took over. Needs to impose himself way more. As it is, Modric, Kroos and Isco are teaching him a lesson in terms of how you play in games like this.

Matic definitely our best player so far. Valencia doing alright, a few careless passes. Same with Mkhitaryan. Lindelof and Smalling don't fill me with confidence, especially with crosses. We look awful on set pieces.

Still hope for us, but we need a Martial at his best on the left to give us an attacking threat.

We need more width. Rashford needs to come on for Lingard. Hes offered no attacking threat at all.
