I'm still wracking my brain trying to figure out why Lukaku touched that interception from Herrera.

Except he was offside. Madrid deserve to lead anyway, but he's ahead enough for it to be comprehensively offside.
Seen the replay again with a slow motion. Casemiro was fractionally offside after all. Still too close for the human eye to spot.

Think LVG was trying to get us to play some possession football and that didn't go down well with fans, so doubt Mourinho will risk getting boos if he starts doing that..
Lvg was possession with no cutting edge which was pointless. It's a fine balance but this RM team have that nailed down. They can be direct or pass it around for 5 minutes and not give you a sniff.

    Looks alright to me.

These are, arguably, the best club side in the World.

We're holding our own, more or less.
Yep. Don't get the overreaction. We aren't going to be outplaying them let alone matching their level. Especially with us trying a new formation and playing new players whereas Madrid players have previous world clsss chemistry.

Just hope United can show a bit more urgency and what happens, happens. If they can get an equalizer or dare I say the lead, great. If not, they did what they could and you got to applaud that.

Looks to me guys, that if you put everything down to the gulf in quality, you'll never improve. I've seen Sevilla play much better vs Madrid than you do now. Doubt you can make a case about Sevilla being better than United. It's about the attitude as well, and about the poor tactics on display from Mourinho.

You don't get to put everything down to the 'gulf in qualty'. How much did you spend in the last 3 years? Must be over 250m.
Silly argument when Mourinho has come in 12 months ago and is rebuilding the squad. No point counting how much money has been spent when he wasn't here. He's actually recouped and sold on alot of that.

Except I've not said that have I. We're playing against the best team in the world in a fairly meaningless game. We're playing badly, I agree. But saying "we're overrated" or "we're shit" or "Lukaku is fecking brainless" based off this game is just dumb in my opinion. If we're playing this badly in the prem 3 games in I'll be pissed. But this really doesn't worry me
What's would you call a footballer who is miles over side taking the ball away from another who is onside with no pressure from defenders?

Was Gerrard really just ripping into Pogba for trying to be too individual? Wanker, clearly never watched a game he played in himself.
He's right in that case though.Pogba has been trying to prove he's the best player on the pitch. He's making foolish mistakes and being selfish

Yeah saw the replay at half time and it's not as clear as I thought.

Modric, isco and kroos are world class, no surprise there. Our attack letting us down, lingard focusing too much on the defensive part I think and doing basically nothing in attack, not even appearing out on the left wing when there's loads of empty space. Just shouldn't be starting in a game like this, woefully short of the level needed. Hopefully Martial comes on asap for him.

Lukaku isolated, but with a few dumb moments (especially taking it when he was offside). Pogba started well then reverted to last seasons form after Madrid took over. Needs to impose himself way more. As it is, Modric, Kroos and Isco are teaching him a lesson in terms of how you play in games like this.

Matic definitely our best player so far. Valencia doing alright, a few careless passes. Same with Mkhitaryan. Lindelof and Smalling don't fill me with confidence, especially with crosses. We look awful on set pieces.

Still hope for us, but we need a Martial at his best on the left to give us an attacking threat.
Not individually. The philosophy set up by zidane is posession based total football . you have to play similarly to play well against that philosophy.

Btw i don't think there is as big a gulf as people here keep saying. Mou just needs the defenders to settle down and be more enterprising when you have the ball. And Lingard has to go. Rashford or Martial would give Carvajal fits and give you a massive boost

No defender to be blamed for this goal at all. We played on the offside trap and Casemiro was clearly offside. It's the ref's fault.
Lindelöf had no clue of where Casemiro was!

I'm starting to think Mourinho bought him so Guardiola couldn't, even if he doesn't fit us.

Still in this, RM were in complete control but have dropped off the last 10 mins.

I worry though, they still have Ronaldo to come...
He's been on holiday with 3 kids...two new newborns and I think this is his first game back.

.....Against this Utd team he could get a couple, as our left side and right inside is so so poor..

Watching Paul Scholes in the middle of Gerrard and Mcmanamanananan is making me think he missed a great opportunity to wear one of his premier league medals around his neck tonight.

Lindelof not good enough to be out there without someone like Bailly to make up for it.

Thought we actually played ok for the last 10-15 minutes or so. Madrid are obviously a class apart, but we've had a few opportunities. Pogba has been poor, Matic has been great so far.

This left side, just utter nothingness with Carvajal getting all the time in the world.
Two players out of position. Darmian and Lingard. No left footer to feed Lukaku, and absolutely no attacking threat from Lingard. Too easy for Real.

Even if he was 4 inches further back and actually onside Lindelof wouldn't have got there. Nowhere near tight enough - he should have been close enough to Casemiro to interrupt the ball. He was just lazy and badly positioned. Lindelof is to blame.

Casemiro was offside. The goal was illegal. How can I blame any defender for this ?

Who the feck did we play last season remotely close to this Madrid team? We're doing well, not being outclassed, or being thrashed as many in here would have you believe. We need a winger though, yes.
I mean our style of play is the same. Against the better teams we give them too much respect and focus on how to stop them rather than how to beat them. Hoof it forward to an isolated striker and it comes straight back towards us. I wish they would retain the ball better.

Big difference is the defenders. Ours are all good/great on the ball. Yours don't know what to do and treat the ball as if it's made of lava
Agreed with you on that. We are playing midfield three vs midfield five. There was no contest in that half.

He's not touched the ball that much and his desperation to touch the ball clouded his mind and he just wasn't thinking.

Pogba's deeper than the Titanic. Thought Matic was meant to set him free.
I asked this when the "Pogba will be set free" thing was being repeated.
I did not get any answers. Logically, it makes no sense, given that last season we had Carrick, in the same role and Carrick is a decent player.
Our main problem is that we can't score from our chances and nothing has changed. Our attack is terrible.

The moaning here is bizarre. They are winning by an offside goal. We started brightest then 10-15 in they took over.

They are the best side in the world and we are just getting back into the CL.

    Get a grip.

We did. We can give them a game up until our attack where we are hopeless.
