A very lively half for him, even if it was rough with the missed chance, booing and lots of calls from Moss going against him. Want him to get a goal to give him confidence that he can do it in difficult circumstances.

There were definitely shades of Danny Welbeck with that chance and performance in general. A lot of running around, looking dangerous, but he was anything but.

I get the impression some people's love for Martial is turning them against Rashford.
Absolutely. I have seen people put Rashford with the likes of Lingard and Welbeck to justify playing Martial. He will become a good finisher over time and will be a hell of a player then. But is it only me that thinks he has added a number of new tools in his arsenal from the last season. He has become so much more potent.

Honestly, Martial is a more defined version of Rashford. Rashford is too... rash. Their management is crucial here. Whilst Rashford has been poor, you dont simply want to take him off and send him the wrong message. But at the same time, if he continue with these up and down in game performances, it will cost us. I would give Martial a chance, though, he needs it and deserves so.

Just an objective opinion based on what we're seeing.
No matter what Rashford does his deficiencies are glossed over due to him being a local 19 year old.
What does Martial have to do to play ahead of Rashford?

It's as if the last six months didn't happen. His decision making has regressed to where it was last winter. The 1v1s are unacceptable misses. Rashford has scored much harder chances.

Again needs to start sorting his finishing out although he has done well to stretch Swansea.

Can't help but feel Martial slots that chance home mind.

And they shouldn't be. If you play 1st XI, you should be assessed as such, age should not come into it at all. He has glaring weaknesses which may improve in the future, but right now it is costing us.

Totally agree. And then if we don't win the PL or miss a CL spot the blame will shift to other players.

RAsh will be fine imo. However, he needs to not listen to all the 'talk' around him, be it from the press or ex or current players saying how good he is. Just needs to ignore all the talk and keep working on his game. The last thing he wants is to get distracted and then start overdoing things. If he can stay calm and patient, he will be much better for it.

It's happened far too many times with young players that it just will come, not even worried about it.
It's also happened too many times that the finishing doesn't come. Danny Welbeck is a prime example of that.

This is true.

I prefer Martial myself and there's no getting away from the fact that his finishing has to improve but he's such a big threat. Some of his touches have been delightful and he drags defenders around so much.

I'd agree but we've already seen evidence of how clinical he can be in his first season. I think his poor finishing recently has been symptomatic of the fact he hasn't had a proper run as a striker since his breakthrough season and he's over-complicating things in his head which hopefully training and playing with an instinctual finisher like Lukaku will remedy.

Can't help but feel Martial doesn't make that run and doesn't get that chance.

The feck is this thread. If we want to talk about decision making let's talk about Mkhi and Pogba first. I am definitely in the start Martial camp but that's not an excuse to pretend Rashford is Jesse Lingard.

Actually it often work just like that but maybe you have not followed football that long.
It really doesn't work like that.
In fact, most people can train there whole life without being able to learn to be a finisher.
Rooney has scored lots of goals for us but he's never been a clinical finisher despite his best efforts. Rashford didn't grow up as the number 9 the club want him to be now, he was a number 10.

Rooney certainly was a clinical finisher back in 2010 so that isn't true at all

We play so much better without him in the team! Only kidding of course. But Martial's place to lose now.

Martial is better, no doubt about that. Still, it's nice to have both...

Rashford really need to learn from Martial, you can't always dribble blindly every time you receive a pass, it may work once or twice but when you do it every single time the opponents are gonna have easy time
