Er...sorry...near Southampton.
I think we deserved the 3 points. It was close, cagey and hard to call at times. But DDG had a very quiet afternoon, which was unexpected (even without Kane), and we looked solid. Given the confidence-sapping form we have been in and the way they have been on the up, that was a pleasing 3 points to get tucked away. What will be telling will be where we go from here. Our recent form has been confusing, even given the injuries. The start of the season was really bright and it's time to start pushing on now rather than treading water...so, onwards and upwards, hopefully.

Terrible and worrysome performance.

Huge result though, delighted with that. That was an absolute must win.
Terrible and worrysome? Why exactly? Had the better chances and more control while De Gea was basically untested and all they had was the one Dele Alli chance. Did you expect to hammer Spurs who have a terrific defence as well?

It's not an obsession mate. I just find it frustrating that our attacking play has all the subtlety and coherence of an Adam Sandler movie.

We aspire to be one of the world's biggest clubs yet we rely on a Wimbledon-esque punt downfield to score a goal. The fact that City are playing amazing football just across town is an obvious counterpoint.

But if you want to think United's critics are just Guardiola fanboys, then fine.
Your answer is laughable. Have you spoken to Moyes about aspirations? So, you're saying criticizing United can't be done with involving Guardiola? Fanboys or not, the ones who need to mention his name are just ridiculous. I shaved my head but didn't cut down to the skin, Guardiola would laugh at me for not wearing baldness right...

I agree with Neville that the defensive quality of both teams was actually good to watch.

IMO it was a real terrible first half, IDK players were so nervous not up to the moment a bit afraid, then I watched a totally different United in the second half, Jose did absolutely talk well in half time and made the players want the game and focus even Mkhitaryan he was a bit better in second half, great to have both Jones and Bailly at CBs and with Pogback things will surely look better, very important well hope to see Martial starts every game from now on.

Game really lacking in attacking quality and with poor play in general, first half was abysmal. Second half improved with more fight which is great to see but I think we got a bit lucky playing a Kane-less and surprisingly negative Spurs.

Our defenders are making up for any lack of creativity from any of our flair players. The sooner Pogba comes back we'll see a different Lukaku. The team has a different dynamic. The game was too tactical from 2 very good managers.

The key thing here was how comfortable it was. Bar the Dele chance they had nothing. They were always going to have a degree of control in the midfield given our injuries but as a unit we were fantastic.

Good second half. Much better after Mkhi went off. Lukaku good in the last 20 and defensively quite good. Well done Tony and Young.

They weren't negative at all. They should have scored with the best pass of the game.

Oh, they were missing Kane but we're missing that French bloke

Sissoko and Ali did their utmost to get booked with neither receiving anything from the referee.

Lukaku is not a good target man, for a man his size, he barely wins his headers and can't really flick them on for the other attackers. We're really missing Fellaini against teams that press.

Good goal by Martial. Matic was very good, Herrera was extremely disappointing. Backpassing everything, not even looking up to the forwards. Mkhi was terrible as well but dribbling past 6 defenders is not really his game, he needs the give and go passes to get his thing going.

Big big 3 points this!!We were excellent at the back, our centre backs and a Young in particular looked excellent and Rashford,Martial and Lukaku played quite well. But Herreras simply not good enough to play for us,he gives us absolutely nothing and Mikhi is still infuriatingly inconsistent. We seriously miss Pogba,we seriously lack quality in the middle so we have no option but to just hoof it up to the big man.We just have to grind out results until a Pogba comes back, but this was a huge victory for us...

fecking hell Dele Alli is a cnut, hope someone sparks him out one of these days. Is this how everyone else sees Ander Herrera?

We were better in the second half. I think it was a mistake from Pochettino to remove Son, who was dropping deep to facilitate play. Llorente couldn't get no service in the box.

Young is my MOTM, was a one man engine on his flank. Back line was excellent. Can't think of any player who had a bad game... Even Mhkitaryan.

No Rojo, no Carrick, no Fellaini, no Pogba, no Zlatan.

We'd at least a quarter of the side who would start every game against a top 6 side out, including our best player.

I'll hear none of these Harry Kane excuses.

Ander doesn't actively go looking for fights so I'd say no.

Positives:

DDG - His distribution was absolutely exceptional, including in the build up to the goal.
Defence - Very sound, apart from that one Dickhead Alli chance.
Young - Wound Spurs up all game, did well offensively and at the back
Matic - Did well despite being outnumbered
Playing 3 at the back - looks natural for our defenders and having this solidity in a big game is a huge positive and gives us an extra option

Negatives:

Herrera - Gave the ball away far too much. Unnecessary theatrics and has regressed a lot since last year.
Mickey - See above.
Lingard - He reminds me of the common housefly, buzzes around being annoying but easily swatted away.
I'd agree with that word for word.

Very rational post, ironically.

Son was knackered. He played the whole game against West Ham. I don't think he could have run any more

Eh? That's exactly what he did for the winning goal.

You chose a weird time to make that point.

We just beat our huge title rivals in a really intense game. Can't we enjoy that for a bit before we talk about City?

Week after week after week people keep forgeting something. Our coach is jose mourinho. We don't have klopp or pep who will play to score one goal more. We have coach who is playing on the win .
I saw today united which was not tested at all against one of the better teams in england( to be honest, besides city , for me spurs are best attacking team in england). And we won. It was not attractive win, after first half i thought it will finish 0.0 but again, we won. It is mourinho in big games.

About 352; in defence it is looking just great. I imagine in knockout round in CL we would play that. In attack with pogba, mikhi in better form and hopefully blind in defence it will be much better.
About lingard; stop playing that useless, untalented, "playing on safe" player on no10 position ffs. It was awful. No10 who avoids to to anything except running is insult to that position.

The second half was brilliant. The defence was brilliant. The subs were brilliant, even though Lingard screwed that chance. Even Mikhi looked like he had found his mojo in the second half before being subbed off. Am gonna go get wasted!!
