This is it.

Most posters including myself know absolutely nothing about BHA other than from Fifa, FM and today. Then some sit here and moan because we didn't win 99-0.

BHA worked us hard and their disciplined and hard working defence made the game into a snooze fest. The refereeing was inconsistent and our quality was completely negated (bravo BHA).

I didn't enjoy the game, but at the end of the day I will take a win against PL opposition who played well and worked hard.

can't argue with any of that. On a side note, I am concerned about Lukaku as he is looking like the one I recognise for Everton where if he is not scoring then he is completely a burden in any sort of attacking play. That run into wide open space unchallenged where even a terrible touch would have been enough to take him through yet he found a level below terrible and knocked it to the last defender they had...

I felt sure that they were going to equalise at the end, so I’m really pleased with the win.

That doesn’t mask a horrifically poor performance though.

They say that bad luck comes in threes. I’m starting to feel that the same can be said of bad managers post Ferguson.

Mourinho needs to get a couple of top class attacking coaches in, as him and his current coaches seem absolutely clueless on how to set up a team to attack.

Ok mate. If you're happy the sort of football we've seen from United this season, then I hope you keep on enjoying it.
Ok pal. If you're unhappy the sort of football we've seen from United this season, then I hope you keep on detesting it.

Positives:

3 points

Lindelof played well

Pogba got 90+mins under his belt
No injuries (known)

Zlatan looked good when he came on

Negatives:

Poor attacking play (which seems to be happening too often of late)

Too much of hoof it into the box (Alla Moyes mark II)

Our best player with the ball at his feet is young

Lukaku looks nothing like the player from earlier on this season

3 pts is what we needed. We got that.

On a side note, City are gonna win the league.
Doom doom

If we were close to city people would be satisfied with the outcome today. Because we realistically know we are not winning the league this year, people are less interested in winning ugly. Crap performances just demonstrate how behind City we are, and it hurts.

Second best 70% of the game and without the fluke goal we never looked like scoring. Why is our attack so slow and laboured, and even Brighton can get up the field with speed? Young MOM 7 the rest 5

That's the worst and the luckiest we've been this season.

3 points all that matter though. But it does not make me look forward to anything.

Boring, but to be expected. This is a Brighton team that City took 70 minutes to score against and the 6th best defense in the league.

An ugly win but take it and move on.

Watford will be a much tougher game on Tuesday. Need to step it up.

It's fecking Brighton.
They are only in the league 5 minutes. Stop making excuses about how good they are at the back and what they did against City for 70 minutes....early in the season... and now we're expecting a rough time at Watford. fecking Watford. Listen to yourself.

United should be well capable of smashing these teams. They should know that teams like that will play compact and tight. There should be a game plan. There should be sufficient quality to beat these teams.

No evidence of a plan today or any sort of tactics, today and many other days. Same again and we won't get anything against the mighty Watford. Or will it be another defensive away match playing for a draw. And you can expect the same insipid shite against City.

We won today.. thankfully but Christ made hard work of it. Yes winning without playing well is good but we don't play well enough times... and the luck like we got today will dry up.

You are dead right about needing to step it up. Massively.

Whether it's the players or the coaching. Performance levels need to go up massively and attitudes need to change..

Either that or scraping 1 nil home wins against promoted teams is the new accepted level and people in here can stop mentioning the word title and trophy when it comes to Man United.

Not to throw more negative logs onto the fire, but I thought Lindelof looked so average again. I know Murray is a handful, but bloody hell, he was bossing him.

Not really, it was the entire team which was poor, and even when they were subbed we did not improve. Bigger problems than just the players.

The ideal is to have a compact block of player who attack/defend together:

- Lukaku isolated
- Martial was attracted by the heart of the game
- Pogba + Matic VS 3 opposing players
- The defense play low on the pitch
- Young is asked to own the left flank today.
- The partnership Rashord+Valencia was decent
- Lukaka + Matic + Mata are not the most dynamic players

In this context, Martial and Rashford have a key role to enable the team to have a better command of the game and play higher on the pitch. Rashford tried to do this while Martial wasn't tactically disciplined.

Also, I don't see players like Martial and Rashford trying to make Lukaku score.

Watching us build up from the back can be painful. We have some below average passers in our back four. Appreciate Matic but the team would benefit if he at times tried to play at a higher tempo

Young MOTM easily. What a man! Played wherever the managers wanted him to play. Be it RW, LW, RB and now at LB where he's becoming first choice:nervous:. Says how rubbish our forwards were when a LB was our best outfield attacker.

Seriously, do we even practice any kind of attacking? We look so disjointed with no plan when in attack pretty often. Lot of times it's just aimless crosses into the box or hoofing.

Pochettino? Jardim? Marcelino if he keeps doing what he's doing at Valencia?

I agree this is a valid question but there must be managers out there who can serve up better stuff than this.

Lol

Complete travesty of a performance. Forced onto the backfoot way too often against a newly promoted, average Brighton team who showed no fear at all of us (which speaks volumes for how we're perceived nowadays). There was a time teams would shit bricks in the tunnel at OT, now nobody cares, they just go at us.

3pts is important but man, we're hard to watch sometimes. Today was like watching LVG's United, again. We've got too many players in crucial positions on the pitch who simply contribute anything close to what we need them to - Rashford, Mkhitaryan and Lukaku, today.

There were dull games in Fergie era and we won 1-0 at home. Nothing to complain about. That's football. Move on to next!

:D
Can't forget about Groß(ss)! I wondered if Brightons trasnfer strategy was based on names then I saw March and Ryan.

The meme gods were not fully with us tonight.

He's Chris Hughton. I've liked him since he was Newcastle manager many moons ago.

It's like, did people forget how bad we played with Pogba in the team? It was obviously going to be a boost having him back but we weren't going to suddenly play great football.
I think many are truly clueless about football

Hanging on against the mighty brighton at home! We are going nowhere this season guys

Well City gonna win the league so whether we stop watching or supporting the team, it's unbelievable after every game some have to compare us to City or Pep to Jose. Yes we need to be better and more consistent.

Not great...

It’s worrying how we look so devoid of ideas in attack. Really need to work on our movement and off the ball runs.

Brighton look like more a proper team than United. They can string passes quickly and suddenly we are in a dangerous situation.

Not the best win, but I'm glad luck is ours. Three points and on to the next game!

We had 58% of the ball and had double the amount of shots they had, three times more before we scored. But yeah, we were dominated.

Funny that playing the caf favourites has left us without any solidity in the middle. Playing a striker on the wing and a lightweight like mata at no.10 is a bad idea.

Only thing that matters, 3 points. There were days were we played some wonderful stuff but went away with just a point.

Get the impression that some of the players are about as committed to the cause as the hotel room loving manager that they play under, cant be helpful, that said, there is no excuse for not playing to your full potential, clearly many of those players are not doing so, so either you have got mitigating factors at play (management) or simply not good enough (some obviously are not)would not be surprised though if its the former a bit more than the latter!!

3 points, that’s all you can say really....although am more than a little concerned that we could conceivably get ZERO points from next two games in current form

Liked the nastiness today. Only thing that mattered was getting the 3 points. Forgettable performance altogether.

can't argue with any of that. True enough, but I believe in him.

His mentality will carry him through and will be at home in the team we are trying to build. Key example being after that terrible touch the sprint to recover and make the challenge. Also stories from the training ground of his dedication. Rom has work to do, but I have faith in him.

I enjoyed the match. Loved how in the second half we turned the screw, didn't stand for time wasting and eventually got the goal. Don't care it was lucky and that we weren't fully at the races, but 3 points is 3 points.

On Lukaku, I am getting that sense too. I think right now we are in a bit of transition as Pogba and Zlatan have come in as well as playing both Martial and Rashers. There is a general lack of cohesiveness and confusion in some our attacking play. I think lukaku is suffering the most through this transition. Just hope that we get people’s positions sorted out. The drop off in contributions from Miki and Mata in the 10 position has not helped too.

Yep, loved that part.

Okay, the defending for their lives part was exaggerated but we could have conceded a goal if their attack was better.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but most managers play differently based on the opposition. We allowed more space to Brighton's attackers because we knew that their attack was not better.

We would not play with that front 4 if we were away from home to a good team. Because their attack would be better and we would be punished. We made the wager that we would play lots of attackers and come out on top.
