We didn't lose to Bournemouth 3-0. At home. That's the best thing I can take away from tonight. Imagine the meltdown if that was our result. Not pretty tonight but we'll bounce back.
Believe me it's not just about the loss. It's about our spirit our players mentality, the way we responded to that early goal, how we couldn't handle their pressing and passing game. That was terrible.

I hope Roy Keane and Alex Ferguson have barged into the dressing room and absolutely spitroast the team. Every single one of them should be made to walk back to Manchester tonight!

Completely outplayed. A reminder of how our league position flatters us.

Mourinho got the team wrong tonight, many of us saw the need for a 3 man midfield before the game. Pogba doesn't defend at all, we've seen it multiple times now.

One of the worst performances i've ever seen and there's been some horror shows.

Aside from the fact we couldn't pass the ball to each other when we weren't even being pressed, we couldn't be fecked even bothering to run to win the ball back.

I don't think there was one 50-50 won in the whole game.

Being beaten is one thing, it happens, but giving up like that is unacceptable. We didn't even try in that last half hour.

That was an absolute disgrace.
It looked like we mentally were out of it after the own goal, the players do not look coached out there.
Tottenham looked like they had a game plan which they were able to execute well today

13% voted for Fellaini on the Caf MotM, and I think I agree.

Woah, easy there. I understand that by that time most of us were numb to the pain while now there was some optimism around the club but still. Go and rewatch that game... on second thought, don't do that.
I said that out of anger hahaha. Perhaps the only performance worse than that one in the club's history is MK dons. But today was one of the worst for sure.

Spurs were much better on the night and most disappointingly we coasted through the second half. Valencia apart nobody really seemed to care about putting in the required effort. It’s not the drama that people will look to make of it though.
Too much credit to Valencia. He misplaced too many passes.

Tonight was not down to Mourinho. The gameplan was thrown out the window after 10 seconds. He tried to change it, the players were atrocious.
Stop. Just stop. This gets said every time after a shambolic display, yet what is the common factor in them? United playing a midfield 2 and a winger a left back in a big game, especially away. You can recover from going a goal down. Today could have been salvaged if he saw he made an idiotic selection and changed it at half time, switching to a midfield 3. We got comfortably outplayed because of awful tactics. Simple as.

Not one player turned up for us tonight.

Our best performers had one or two bright moments.

Jones and Matic were comically poor.

Why on earth do we sit off Spurs when 0-2 down ?

Jose signs a new contract at Chelsea in 2015 after winning the league, went on to have a horrible season and got sacked half way through. Jose signs a new contract extension at United, loss embarrassingly to Spurs right after that. Too early to be judging, but there are some eerily coincidence in both cases. Also it looked like Arsenal were playing away to Spurs and not United, especially the way we lost, the Red jerseys and Alexis making grumpy faces. Anyways on to the next game.

Ps Everyone was atrocious tonight.

You just can't build a team base on Pogba. He is a world class secoud man / wing man, but not a true leader, whether tactical or mental. Pogba is just a joke without a guy like Pirlo who contols the field.

And if your 1.9m height CF can't win a long ball at all, just dont let him to do that ffs. Every goalkick is just a lose of possession.

Replace Martial replaced by Sanchez is the dumbest thing JM has ever done.

Wow. This goes down as one of the worst United performances i have ever witnessed. We couldn't string 3 passes together in a row. :annoyed:
Absolutely zero desire to do anything as well.
Agreed. I would say it was just as bad as THAT performance away to Olympiakos. If it had been 14-0 to Spurs we could have had no complaints. Pogba was atrocious. Matic had his worst performance of his career. Young didn't look like a professional player. Lukaku needs to be dropped until he learns how to head and control a ball. Even if it takes six months. Lingard offered nothing all game. Smalling should play with the under 10s for the next few games so he can learn how to run and kick a ball. Worst of all was Mourinho - why are we playing two in midfield away to Spurs? And why didn't we change it after 90 seconds when it was obvious to anyone with 40 miles of Wembley, watching the game or not, that the plan wasn't working.

There should be a campaign for the fans who traveled to London to get their money back from that one. Make Matic and Pogba give away their wages for the week.

The most worrying thing is that Jose doesn't seem to grasp he needs to play 3 in midfield when away to strong opponents.

Some simple takeaways:
  • Stop with this ridiculous midfield two - even Stoke tore us apart but luckily Ireland missed two easy chances early in the game.
  • Luke Shaw is a left back with a left foot. Play him. If he's behind Young in the pecking order, sell him and splash on a proven LB.
  • Smalling and Jones are not elite level quality. If Matic is off form (which he always is in a midfield 2) you can literally bypass our entire midfield with one ball.
Other than that, they're a good team and we didn't turn up. We've got a new signing and our front 4 were all over the shop. Forget this and move on - no need for knee jerk comments about sacking Mou or Pogba being to blame but I think the three bullets above are pretty logical.

Result itself doesn't bother me too much insofar since, well, it happens - what was truly grim about that performance was our failure to even attempt to get back into the game in the second half. Insipid and uninspiring.

She broke my heart, So I broke her jaw.
4 managers since I’ve been alive and none of their teams can cope with being pressed and they absolutely refuse to press in return. They literally let Tottenham walk the ball 20 yards into their half before anyone even got close to them. That is something I’d expect from fecking Huddersfield, not the biggest club in England.

Utter farce. I don't think I've seen a worse performance post SAF - probably a few on par with this, but nothing worse.

Awful formation/tactics/setu - no one is coming out of that with any credit. As far as I'm aware Sanchez never came out for the second half, Pogba can't play in a 2 against Sunderland, never mind Spurs, Lukaku couldn't do anything, Martial did nothing, Mata did nothing, Matic doesn't work in a 2 - he doesn't have the legs for it (Carrick and Matic - what's the difference?). And then the defence did what they did - the goals were a bit lucky, but they were torn apart time and time again..on another day this was 4-0.

No fight, no pressing, no hint that we might manage a fight back, even for a second. A total embarrassment.

Defence is going to cost us week after week with a line up consisting of two converted wingers and two criminally poor centre backs who have no technical ability at all. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate Valencia’s progress from inconsistent winger to the almost complete right back, but overall he has regressed this season.

We need to cull some of our defensive options (Blind, Jones, Smalling, Darmian) and replace them with huge upgrades, otherwise all this investment in attack is worthless.

Lukaku will never be a striker who lifts us when we're down, and that's an issue. Surely as a top team we should have a player up front who will dig deep and get us out of trouble. He was just one of many issues though today.
He isn't good enough full stop. Never has been and never will be. You can't expect to be a top team with a striker who is only their through physicality. He's an awful footballer.
Not his fault tonight but he is a weak link and we won't win the league with him up front unless he is dropped for big games.

Martial should not be playing right
Shaw should be ahead of Young
Pogba is best in a 3 and MUST play there in big away games

these are all so blindingly obvious to us, why not a professional manager? one of the best in the world? just weird.

The only positive was Valencia who is the only consistent player in our team who plays to his level every single game.

The Lack of fight in this team is a much bigger issue than lacking world class players.

Watching United for the past 14 years and the way our players jog about as if they're 4-0 up but in reality they're 2-0 down does my head in. There is a serious lack of fight in this squad and no amount of money or patch work can fix it.

Is this the price we have to pay for SAF dominating all these years :nervous:

Here we fecking go. What's the solution? Who should we bring in instead of Jose? I'll just wait here until you embarrass yourself.
On the contrary, I support Mourinho. But I'm tired of excuses blaming tactics, formation, team selections etc.

Mourinho can't get us playing fluid attacking football with great pressing and defending at the same time. If you think we can achieve that anytime soon, I'll keep waiting here for you instead.

Edit: I don't support the idea of replacing him, but he really needs to re-evaluate his style of football

Well were still a million miles challenging for the league with that team, and with the style of play. We need an overhaul of players, tactics and style of play. Just passing it back to the goalie and lumping it 60 yards is absolutely racked off.

We need that third midfielder in tough games (all games?). For now either Fellaini or Herrera (probably Fellaini if he can get back to the level he was playing at earlier this season), and then get the right midfielder at the end of the season. Pogba simply doesn't work in a two man midfield against most other top teams.
Absolutely agree with you

Should have played a compact line up against this side. Its very hard to track their midfield runners because they roam so much so you have to communicate, intercept and counter instead of playing man to man. This was a good game to go 3-5-2.

deGea
Jones Smalling Rojo
Valencia Herrera Matic Pogba Young
Lukaku Sanchez

should have been the line up.

Know one seems to get mad and have a go at the players when we’re playing bad. Like what Roy Keane used to do and even Rooney. Pogba just jogging around like he doesn’t need to prove himself, and another poor game from Lukaku. No fight in this team today they did believe they could come back in that second half.

Absolute shite. Dodgy at the back, invisible in midfield and barring a short spell after the first goal unable to get it up the field making Lukaku an utter passenger.

Martial moved from his position, but in all honesty having a stinker anyway. Pogba and Matic dire, Young and Jones comically woeful, Smalling marginally better but so so poor on the ball.

Lingard, Sanchez and Valencia battled well, particularly in the first half. But that is it for positives.

Kill it with fire, move on and for feck's sake start getting the first fecking clue about how to approach big away games.

He probably gave the ball away less than anyone else on the team. Comfortably our best player on the night. Though that’s no achievement. We were terrible.

I don't even know where to begin with this. At half time I wasn't even angry. At full time I was fuming with the lack of effort. Tottenham were to a man better than us. Taking Pogba off meant that we were happy to just keep it at 2-0. We were still in the game and I was sure that if we'd gone 1 back the draw was possible. After 10 minutes of the 2nd half it was clear we were going to get nothing. We deserved nothing from that and the 2nd was unacceptable from a United team. Under Fergie we would've come back and got something but this team is mentally weak.

Said it before, say it again - there's no fecking structure or pattern to anything we do in a lot of these games. The attack just falls to pieces, and our lack of desire to win the ball back when we lose it is shocking. Just fall back, sit deep and wait for the opposition to give it back to us.

System was wrong from the get go, but Jose didn't even bother to change it. Anyone with brain could see we were getting overrun in midfield, but he just refused to address it. Shocking from the team, and shocking from the manager.

Right? It wasn't just a loss. It was complete circus. Bar the result, everything and everyone looked out of depth. What bad tactics can do to good players, ey?
Offensively our players dont look like they are executing a game plan and if they are, they arent doing a good job at it and this isnt the first time this has come up this season. Tossing Sanchez in the mix doesnt really help as the problem is deeper than that.
