And people call me negative  :( Surely we won't lose 0-3?!
I really hope not, but looking at how nervous and naive our defense look, and how they seem to find it difficult to handle pressure, I think this is going to be a bad loss that will really affect morale.

I know others have slated this prediction and I'd love to feel differently, but hey, I'd much rather everyone else is right! So let's hope it's just my natural negativity ;)

Are Liverpool paying Lovren extra to talk shit or is he doing it for free?

Please god let Bailey be back for this one. I don't care if he's rusty. A rusty Bailey is twice the player of Smalling and Lindeolf.

Btw, where's that walking disaster Jones?

    ------------De Gea
    Valencia-Bailey-Smalling-Young
    ---McTominay-Matic-Pogba
    Mata-------Lukaku-----Sanchez

Mata will be key for this one given their press. He can step back into midfield to try out number them. That's if we try play ball. Most likely we'll have Sanchez at LB and just lump the ball all game up to a lone Lukaku, in which we'll then slate for being shite. Rinse and repeat in big games, eh?

We will win this game 2-1. Although Mourinho will be cautious in his approach, the Old trafford crowd will urge them on and we will win.

For me Jose still can't find the right balance in the team. Mata came on against Palace and knitted everything together and needs to start for me plus he scores big goals in big games.

It has to be Mata or Lingard on the right,Martial and Rashford don't have the tools required to perform consistently on the right.Mata would be my first choice too....

Has Mata ever played bad against Liverpool (in United shirt)?
He'd be my first choice in AM/RW for Liverpool match.

Expect him to feck up on Saturday..Like clockwork lad does this every single time he has a run of decent form, mouths off to the media and turns to cack inevitably in the next game.

If ever there’s an opportunity to win over an entire fan base this fixture is it. Lukaku or Sanchez to deliver?

Of late I’ve not seen Utd start games well at all, and I mean the first 15-20 min. Often that dictates how the first half pans out, and whilst I don’t expect a Jose team to go pressing and pushing opposition back, at least we can pass the ball and retain possession. That aspect of our games in the opening minutes has been very poor of late, hoping for better start against scousers.

He is going to get found out big time. It's funny how confident they are in Liverpool. Thinking they'll come here and open up. Liverpool seem to me like they won't show any respect to our team which should play into our hands. I've already predicted 3-0 to us. They won't know what's hit them.

Mata struggles when he’s isolated, doesnt have the pace or body strength to get out of those situations. He rarely plays well in matches where the opposition will pressure high up the pitch and with high intensity
To me this is the same Mata as at Chelsea. Never been blessed with any of that yet was successful year on year. The problem is Jose for me is struggling to find his best team cause the players that obviously should be in it, are completely inconsistent. One good game then terrible. Mata should be in the team for me at 10 but the problem is, we don't play with one....

It's telling how long Bailly has been out when we forget how to spell his name (I had to google it to be sure ).

Think Rom's had a good season and too much has been made against his games against 5 other teams especially when he was was either wearing a West Brom or Everton shirt against them. First season here and it's not like we are handing goals to him on a plate or he's taking the penalties. Let's not jump on the media bandwagon when you see what the other strikers are doing at Arsenal or Chelsea that weren't cheap either.

Sanchez has arrived not pre-season but Jan having to hit the ground running. It's only 8/9 games and I think he was our best player for 3 of them so let's not jump on the stupid media bandwagon either cause we and they know he's world class. Yes they might be salty that Utd can actually sign a player that city wanted and paying him a lot of wages but trust me, Tarore never left Barca to city to emulate Colin Bell. Might have had something to do with money too?

Me too, think lukaku has been very good overall. Big goals like this or winner v Sevilla would get more folk on board I think. I’m very much pro lukaku was more making a point about the impact big moments can have for a player still with doubters

Nothing is going to "hit them".

We know a few things about this game, with a relatively high degree of certainty:

Liverpool will press high and have the majority of possession and territory.

We will sit deep and look to bi-pass their midfield press by going long to Lukaku.

Mata will probably score a goal.

Salah will probably score a goal.

De Gea will make some world class saves.

A draw is the most likely result (4 of the last 5 meetings between these sides).

I agree on both paragraphs, Rom has done very well considering we've had a piss poor midfield for so long.

Sanchez has shown a much better desire to win than most and I'm sure once we get the players playing as a team, then he will start scoring and making goals. But, we may have to wait until next season before we get a defensive set-up that can play the ball out and have the confidence and skill to play well forward, thus not leaving the forwards isolated.

I'd be happy with a draw for this game as Liverpool are playing well at this moment, A win would be a fantastic bonus.

Agree mate but I suspect the haters will hate. We've seen it with signings where the vultures will always be circling waiting for the next mistake or the poor first touch. The funny thing is how can a guy score soooo many goals with one? The first touch sets up your shot doesn't it?

Indeed and it will be crucial given Liverpool look to blow teams off the park early. Despite our recent ability to come back in games, which has heartened me somewhat, If we start slow and hesitant it could be long day.

We might lose, sure, but  at the bolded part.
Speaking to The Times, Lovren said: “Maybe they are not in the best shape, but still they win ugly.

“What matters is the points. Last time, when they came here, they defend really deep so let’s see what happens now.

“[Will they do that again?] I think so. They need the points, definitely. For them it will be maybe a good point but, for us, we never play for a point. We will play like we play every day, attacking football. Let’s enjoy.

“Still, you know Mourinho has his own plans. It is our job to focus on ourselves and play how we hope will beat them.”

Spot on. Damian, Blind, Smalling, Jones, Shaw, Rojo have either had long periods out with multiple injuries or and have had brain fart moments that have cost us games. None can be trusted and will appear to have turned a corner only to make another error at a critical time in the game. That's six defenders at the club!!! Tony has proved himself as a genuine RB but whilst I don't dislike Young, he's not one.

I agree about the midfield too. Whilst Scott might be one for the future, how can we play him with the responsibility of being in a 3? Pogba outstanding potential but no discipline or maturity on the pitch leaving only Matic. The gap between our forwards and midfield is huge and that's why we rarely win any second balls or one pass and people are into our back four. At present defensive football is about self preservation, cause if we just attack we would be so exposed.

Don't see much wrong with that tbh, apart from maybe the fact that it's coming from Lovren of all people.

Last win was indeed Jan 2016. Apologies. That's now 5 games without us beating them, though (4 of which were draws).
Not sure where you're getting your figures from. Having looked it up, I'm a bit surprised at just how dominant United have been over Liverpool in recent years: United had the double over Liverpool in 2010-11, 2012-13, 2014-15 and 2015-16. In the other seasons during that period, United had a win and a draw in 2011-12 and there were two draws last season. The outlier, not surprisingly, was the Liverpool double in the Moyes season. Apart from then, you have to go back to 2008-09 for the last time Liverpool had the upper hand over the two league games.

So much for them always playing out of their skins against us! You have to be wary of Liverpool's current form, but the fact is, United are a very tough nut to crack at OT.

Edit: Just realised you will be including the Europa League tie, in which Liverpool won at Anfield and got a draw at OT. Doesn't much change United's recent dominance though.

I'm getting a bit bored with Liverpool claiming to be the bastions of great football all of a sudden, just because they have a manager with only one tactic. It's quite laughable coming from a club whose glory years ended the day they introduced the passback rule.
