If he was available for £30m, would you even have written this thread?

He’s not good enough no matter what his price. We can’t fill our squad with mediocre players just because they are cheap.
Exactly this, United aren't in the bargain bucket leagues! A great signing for a more frugal team, which is most of the top 16, but not top 4/6. That said Liverpool, Arsenal and spurs are a bit more penny pinching and a Champions League experienced defender who is fairly well composed is probably worth £20m

Now that the league is all but over, I’d like to see Lindelof start every remaining league game. We spent a lot on him and there is a reason we signed him, trouble is we’ve barely seen those reasons.
The reason we signed him was due to poor scouting. He’s doesn’t have any atttributes to be a top quality CB and on top of that is constantly making mistakes. We should get shut in the summer. That said he is still better than Evans!

His asking price is only £3 million because that's all he is worth.

Not good enough for United.

Would rather have Hegazi than Evans if we had to take a WBA defender but I don't actually want either and we don't have to take one.

Blatantly people haven't watched him since he left United and assume he's the same player that left the club in that shambolic season under Van Gaal. He's a better player now, more of a leader and has played over 30 games for West Brom in both of the last two seasons, it's only this season he's missed more games. Can't see him joining United again but I wouldn't be against signing him, especially for that fee.

Is he really over his injury issues? I checked his PL stats he has missed games in the last two seasons, so I'm not sure. I'd take him as a squad player over Jones or Rojo any day.

Why the absolute feck would we want to sign a defender from a team that's about to be relegated? How would that improve us?
Now I am not saying that we should sign Evans, but that is insane logic. We got Tevez from a West Ham team who were on the brink and he was a pivotal part in our CL winning campaign in 2008.

Nope! Should only buy another CB if he is a significant upgrade.

Should never have sold him. Another terrible LVG transfer decision.

Now I'm no United expert, but I'd be surprised if you are to buy any CB this summer. Rojo just signed an extension, Smalling plays the majority of games, so at the worst he'll be a backup, and Bailly and Lindelof are Mourinho signings. So even without Jones, it's 4 CBs (and Tuanzebe, and Fosu-Mensah with a small chance).

Even if you eventually do buy someone, my bet is it won't be Johnny Evans...
We desperately need a ball playing CB,someone who can confidently carry the ball forward and pass the ball forward...We need to make the transition from back to front quicker and we can't do that if our Centre backs can't pass the ball forward.Smalling,Jones and Bailly aren't great passers,Rojo and Blind are good distributors but there defending isn't good enough.

Lindelof was supposed to be our ball playing CB but he hasn't adapted to English football so far...We desperately need a new CB...

We signed a certain midfielder called Roy Keane from a club that got relegated in 1993.....I wonder why we did that?

It's 3 million because he insisted on putting such a clause in his contract if West brom got relegated....He didn't want to sign for West brom unless such a clause was inserted in his contract.City and Arsenal seriously considered spending 30 million for him last January....

Why is it so fecking scandalous to sign a player from a relegated club? Leicester signed Maguire and Liverpool signed Robertson from Hull last summer, it didn't do them so bad.
They are both players in the ascendency of their careers though. Jonny is on the wrong side of 30 and is no longer good enough to be back up for us.

He’s no better than Smalling Jones and Rojo though. It would be a pointless signing.

If we are buying a CB then it needs to be a top class one that is head and shoulders above the aforementioned players.

Fair enough.I"m not saying sign him up,I was just asking everyone for an opinion....My first choice would be Samuel Umtiti, but I"m not sure if he's attainable.I think it's time to offload Smalling and Blind this summer,so if we sell them both,I think Evans would be an interesting option...

No thanks. He's very good, but I don't think he does particularly well under pressure. An Everton level of club is probably the right move for him.

Everton, Newcastle or West Ham.

If he's fit, that's a bargain for a home grown player with a 2-4 years left.
Your team has been going after home grown players of late. Barkley, Cahill, Christensen, Drinkwater, Fabregas and Moses will be the only ones who qualify next season - Loftus-Cheek too if he doesn't decide to leave so wouldn't be as bad as when you started this season with just the five.

At the age of 30, a CB is considered to be at his prime. On a short term contract he can be a good squad player for us if he is over his injury issues which I think he is not. A fully fit Jonny Evans can offer us better service than Phil Jones or Marcos Rojo in my opinion.

Two of the best players in the league aren't they.

We have our hands full with our 5 CBs who are alternatively brilliant and frustrating on certain days. We don't need another one.

Seems like the kind of guy Chelsea would buy for 3M on the first day of the transfer window, only to sell him for 10M on the last.

I don't think the home grown quota is really that much of an issue. We've had barely any for a while now and only recently signed Ross and Danny.

That being said, I'd not mind Evans at the club but don't think we need a centre back presently.

If we lacked numbers, absolutely yes.
We don't though, so no.
We need higher top-quality defenders not more numbers.

Evans was horrible when he was here. Sure he has a good game in him every now and again, but hes mostly pants and would improve us in no way shape or form.

He is no better than the players you’ve mentioned. Not at all.

He’d just be another average player to get off the wage bill in a year or two.
