It may be best for Martial to move on. People will blame Mourinho, but Mourinho is just doing the best for the team. His reasoning seems to be that Sanchez needs to be played wherever he will be the best. Unfortunately, that best position for Sanchez happens to be where Martial plays.

People will try to blame Mourinho, but the board bears as much, if not more responsibility for this situation.

Reminds me a bit of the old Januzaj posse. Everything from the coaches, system, circumstances is to blame - except of course the player.
I mean there's not really anyone to blame here. It's obviously a difference in what the manager wants Martial to play and what Martial wants to play.

If Martial was happy being an impact sub and starting in games as a rotational option then he would have signed the contract. But he fancies himself to be a key figure in the team. He will probably get his wish playing in a one team league, since Bayern and Juventus can batter most teams while allowing Martial to iron out his game. He's looking out for his career, he's not sulking or showing a poor attitude. It is what it is.

I am surprised by the amount of people trying to make out that Martial hasn't been good this season. Is that just because there's a chance he might leave in the summer? Then again the CAF has been quick to use the word 'deadwood' in the past, like when Moyes and Van Gaal were denuding our squad of title winning players.

Martial is a very good player and he's had a good season. That doesn't change just because this time next year he might be at Bayern or Juventus. Even midweek against Bournemouth he was in good nick. He had the Bournemouth full back on toast, also showed cleverness to flick the ball to Pogba in the build up to Lukaku's goal against them.

However, just because Martial's a very good player and likely to grow into an even better one, it doesn't mean the world will end if he leaves United. If we sell him and buy a top drawer right winger to fill the gap, which is what Duncan Castles is suggesting we'll do, we could emerge stronger.

It's pretty much inevitable that Martial will move on , he has had plenty of chances to nail down a place but has never really taken them.Sanchez arrival spells the end for either Rashford or Martial I personally would choose to keep Rashford ahead of him.
I can understand the fans who say it is unfair because he was playing well untill Sanchez arrived but personally I think that is an exaggeration because in my book he was still very much hit and miss.
Sanchez has not had a great start to his career with us but my money would be on him settling in and really thriving next season as they say form is temporary but class is permanent .
Lukaku,Sanchez,Rashford and a new top class winger and we will be looking good going forward

how can anyone in their right mind choose Rashford over Martial? other then being local hes a very ordinary player with a decent long shot and a burst of pace.

Martial was playing well and got dropped, but Martial was not playing to an elite level that Sanchez has played at.

Sanchez can give you 40 goals and assists a season, a fantastic press from the front, a game raising effect on other players in the team due to his attitude and demanding nature.

Martial has yet to hit the 20 goal mark, and has yet to hit the 30 goals and assists mark. He is also not active enough on the pitch to have that game raising effect. Arsenal fans will tell you how Sanchez would almost will the team towards a win through his involvement in every attacking move. And the stats also back this up, Sanchez' general attacking contribution is ridiculously high, up there with the best players in the world like Messi and Neymar.

Well that’s nonsense. Rashford has 14 goals and 6 assists to his name this season to Martial’s 12 and 7. In 100 extra minutes. He’s also two years younger than Martial. There’s very little between them and Rashford at least isn’t sulking about all the time.

So we sell Martial and buy another LW? What is the logic there? The new LW will not play if Sanchez is 1st choice and spare a thought for Rashford

The logic is that we buy a RW, not a LW :)

In the premier league Rashford has 6 goals in 31 apps with 16 being subs, Martials has 9 goals in 28 starts with 11 being subs. All in all Rashford has played 106 mins more in the premier league.

Just like how many here judge Jose on not just winning but in style, Jose has his own way to measure players. Multiple times he's said that goals and assist are just points in checklist and he needs more. That's unfortunately where Martial falls short.

We don’t need him at all as shown in the recent games we’ve won and he’s not featured. People go on like we are forcing prime Ronaldo out of the club. It’s obvious martial is lazy and has s bad attitude, If we can use him as a makeweight for somebody we actually need I’m all for it.

If PSG want him and we can go for verratti or munier

If Juve want him we can go for Sandro or dybala

RW or back up striker, depends on where Rashford's future lies. Of course, a number of things could happen. Martial might stay and Mourinho might be sacked halfway through next season, under a new manager his options could change. I think the biggest fear with someone like Martial is him going to another team and becoming a world beater.

Rashford has more in cup competitions. The difference between isn’t what is being made out. And Rashford is younger and as a homegrown player is more valuable to United.

I'm not sure why Sanchez has to play on the right. If you listen to his post match comments after the Spurs game. He suggests Mourinho has told him he has a "free role"

I was at Wembley yesterday. Whenever he found himself on the right he looked more than comfortable. I don't expect him to turn into Bebe on the right. He did play on the right for most of his Barcelona career. I just think the whole situation of Martial wanting to leave is unnecessary. Move Sanchez to the right. Rotate Martial/Rashford for the left wing position.

I actually think he would play better on the right. He can get the ball and cross it first time without having to check back and potentially slow down attacks.

If he does end up leaving, fair enough I just hope it's abroad with a buyback clause like we did with Januzaj.

Where are you getting these stats from?

transfermarkt:
Rashford - 12 goals and 9 assists in 2367 minutes
Martial - 11 goals and 10 assists in 2204 minutes

with Rashford playing striker in a few games.

Looks like @The_Order has more concern about his beloved Martial than United.
FYI, there are some in this thread fighting Martial's corner that don't even support United. They just like him as a player and will follow him around to different teams.

The next Salah/KDB situation is happening right before our eyes and fans are happy with it. Don't complain when Martial goes to Bayern/Juventus etc and tears it up. The least we can do is insert a buy back clause to protect ourselves Incase he comes good which I'm. Sure he will. Scored 17 goals in all comps in his 1st year with us. Basically carrying our attack at the age 19/20. And people are happy to lose this talent. Amazing.

He said all the same stuff at Chelsea.
And do you actually for 1 second think that Manchester United has the same values and philosophy of a club like Chelsea?

Chelsea spit out their managers every 2-3 seasons, regardless of their ability. Let's see who's out of a job first, Conte or Mourinho. I'm pretty certain that the FA Cup final will be Conte's last game in charge of Chelsea. Like many before him, they like to turn managers over regularly.

Manchester United will not be doing that. They made 2 mistakes with Moyes and LVG and they addressed it, but it's clear they don't feel that way with Jose, and rightly so he's doing a great job.

Wait you believe in everything he says publicly?! Anyway, when it comes to my part, i never expressed my thinking about the matter of one year, i just said all kinds of shit can happen, nothing is set in stone. Looking at your posts, i rather you not taking me seriously, so please dont.
I don't believe everything he says publicly, but I do gather my own opinion based on supporting this club very very closely.

Your post said why get rid of Martial if Mourinho will leave 1 year later? So I replied to that. I'd understand if he was banging in 30 goals a season, but he isn't. He has flashes of brilliance backed up by incredible inconsistencies. I would love him to stay and develop here, but I'd take a prime Sanchez over an undeveloped youngster all day long, if we want to win titles quickly we need peak players.

Martial Lover tag will be a nice one i think. But i do think he will stay at least one more season, Mourinho will not be that stupid nor our board. If Perisic didnt come because Woodward said so that can be apply to Martial too. Beyond 2019, who knows.

There's a 50 page thread in the transfer forum discussing his departure. That sort of thing is obviously not going to help his cause.

More profoundly, Mourinho sees everything about him in training. If there is something he doesn't like about his effort or attitude, then he is obviously not going to be incentivized to give him more minutes.
Just a bunch of assumptions. If this was true, why would Mou have him anywhere near the squad? He'd have received the Shaw treatment if this was the case. It's far more likely to be down to Mou just liking Sanchez more than Martial actively annoying displeasing Mou.

People who repeatedly type KDB,salah, Lukaku can you also type in the young and petulent players he sold who did not amount to much?
The above three were sold when they wanted to leave not when Mourinho asked them to. It was always chelsea's policy at that time to hoard in young good players and then sell them . They also sold matic and re-bought him again. Same with David Luiz. Lukaku and Kdb have already said they went because they wanted to go and not because Mou asked them to be sold, they were not patient enough and if that is the case and they made good careers then it happened to SAF with Pogba too, happened to juve with henry, etoo and madrid,Raul and athletico,Pirlo and Inter, pirlo and AC milan, etoo and barca, Robben and Real, bayern and kroos. It will happen again.

He has clearly improved Lingard and even rashford. Made smalling and jones looked like decent defenders and made even fellaini look useful at times.
Maybe martial becomes a world beater elsewhere, does it scare you? why should it? The simple truth is Martial wants to keep his interest ahead of the team, that is something that cannot happen as team is bigger than everyone. He isnt better than Lukaku as a striker, isnt better than sanchez on left, is worst at right wing. He should either bide his time and prove himself. He has 43 appearances this season at age of 22, which i think is a decent number for an inconsistent winger. He needs to play for Man utd and not for Martial FC. If he wants to change teams, he is welcome to, but he leaves on united's terms.

Who scored. Though they were counting a couple of friendlies for some reason. Whichever you use the fact remains there is little between them with Rashford being significantly younger and moved round positions much more frequently.

Hilarious watching people twist themselves into pretzels to keep Martial here at all costs.
This ...
Like him but he has to work to get himself into the team , that really doesnt suit him at all .. We need more fight and less sulking primadonnas ..

In either case, it’s obvious that Mourinho feels he has better options otherwise he would be playing him, and if he’s not playing much now then it’s not likely he will play much more in the future since Mourinho will have an entire transfer window to buy whoever he wants for next year.

We're in agreement there. My initial point was that it's unfair for people to slate Martial for being unhappy with the situation.

I'd love to see him stay and turn into the player some think he will, but with a year left I think we will shop him around this summer.

Please don't compare Janujaz to Martial, they're not even in the same stratosphere when it comes to impact on the field. I'm not sure what you can blame Martial on. He's worked his way back to the starting line up, had made an impact both off the bench and as a starter, only to be relegated to non-existence once Sanchez came around. All the complaints of inconsistencies you can make about Martial can be made about the rest of the team as well.

We're not comparing their playing abilities - although there were some here who were sure Januzaj was the next big thing in football circa 2014. There were even Zidane and CR7 evocations. The perils of backing a player and forgetting they are simply one of eleven.

Let’s see. Win everything available, make money.. yes they have the same goals and Roman tried to implement the same values and philosophy which is why he got rid of Jose first time around.

As for who’s out of a job first I think we all know it’s most likely to be Conte as one Conte doesn’t sound like he wants to be there and he hasn’t met his objectives. Even if he wins the FA cup i’d Imagine he’ll leave.

The point is you made it sound like it’s factual he’d stay and he is saying all the right things like he is going to stay. I was just pointing out he said the same about his 2nd stint at Chelsea that he’d be more attacking, he’d bring through youth, he’d play a more exciting brand of football that he wanted to stay and at first he did but by November he’d gone back to what he knows.

I think he will easily be here next season. Doing a great job tho? No not a chance, doing the bare minimum yes.

You are back in Mourinho's camp now? Just curious since you seem to post as if you trust the man's judgement but after the west brom defeat you said you were off the train.
