Man, they've had Muller and Lewandowski for 4 seasons together now and couldn't reach the CL final even once.

I said it last week but Bayern desperately need competition in their league and soon. They need someone to push them - last week they lose this tie, they simply don’t play with enough intensity or knowledge from the first minute.

Bundesliga is a poor league and you can see it on the Bayern players faces tonight, they know that winning the league isn’t exciting or rewarding enough anymore.

I have a feeling that you wrote this before the match.

This tie didn’t show anything that questions the lack of intensity in Bundesliga as a reason for them going out. Dominated real more than most teams can. Lost a close match after some extremely basic error while missing key players. The disappointment and will throughout showed they care but at times you can lose.

Not sure how you got that from this match. They dominated the game.

They were excellent the 2nd leg.

If Lewandowski was just average both games, they're in the final.

They have a very decent team, just need to renew all their front forwards as they're not aging well. Their midfield is pretty good and was unlucky with injuries.

I actually find them to be the most "complete" team in the world. They just are major bottlers for whatever reason.

maybe they should sell Lewa while they still can and get someone younger and hungrier for the future. they'd win bundesliga regardless.

but given the age of Robben and Ribery, it's probably too much to get rid of their only experienced attacker left along those two.

Their finishing is terrible in these big games, but that's why they need to renew their forward line who are only good enough for the league. Defense is good and midfield is great. Neur would have made them stronger as well but no luck. Just throw in some young forwards and they'll become better.

Bayern need to start looking to next season now.

Ribery is most likely gone, their top target should be Martial. Martial is a bit different in that he's more of a goalscoring than the playmaker Ribery is but I currently don't see any other player of a high level, maybe only Hazard, that can take over that position. Another choice can be Draxler.

Lewandowski has to go, he simply hasn't performed in the UCL when Bayern need him most and they need to try and get another top striker. The problem with replacing him would be no striker right now has the overall skillset he has, he can hold the ball up and play passes while scoring many goals. Signing Timo Werner can be a way to go but that would mean them to alter their tactics since he isn't as strong in the air, can't think of many other attainable strikers out there (Kane maybe too expensive and would not want to come to Germany).

Bayern were superb tonight but Real have something on them in the same way that Bayern have a huge psychological edge over virtually every other team they play.

Bayern made more mistakes in two matches & missed more chances in 2 matches than they would in an entire season.
There was also an element of panic in Bayern's attack imho

I think this was the last time for a couple of years that they made it to the semis.
Their decisions (Kovac, Brazzo, Scholl, Klose, et al.) and unwilingness to spend will demote them one or two tiers in Europe. It was a good decade though.

I didn’t get my opinion from this match, read my post again.
Yeah my bad, thought you just meant that the point you made last week was backed up by tonight's game. Even so, I'd say individual feck ups werea bigger problem than a lack of intensity.

Wait and see. If Rummenigge/Hoeneß hate one thing, its being called a second tier team. I see one or more big transfers still happening. My money would be on 1 or 2 of Griezman, Dembele or Bale.

Their approach play up until the box is out of this world. Then they shit themselves for some reason. If they had some clinical strikers this tie would've been done ages ago.

That's my fear as well. It's an end of an era with Robbery losing their powers and Lahm-Schweinsteiger also gone. Hummels and Boateng may also not have much time left, though Sule is a fantastic replacement for one of them.

Bayern really need to get their chequebook out and sign some big players otherwise there is a chance they'l go back to the European mediocrity of mid 00's right after their success in the late 90's and early 00's.

First of all, making it to the semis isn’t an indication of greatness. Roma and Liverpool are there and aren’t close to winning their leagues - not this year, not last year either. Secondly, we have no idea how Bayern recruits in the summer. They still have excellent/world-class players in Hummels, Alaba, Kimmich, Boateng, Alcantara, Mueller and Lewandowski - as well as Ribery, Robben, Martinez, Coman, James and so forth. Getting Neuer back will also help of course. And who knows how these German talents suddenly develop a la Kimmich? Goretzka is coming in.

They are already world-class, but probably needs to buy 2-3 replacements to sustain the challenge. The talk about falling two levels down is very naive. All big clubs need to change around, from Real to United.

Agree with this.

Bayern will walk the Bundesliga again next season. However they're falling short at the latter stage of the CL because they're bottling it with mistakes and missed chances. For Ulreich tonight you had Muller missing a pen v A Madrid etc. . . . to lose 6 matches in a row to Real Madrid is quite something.

Bayern were superb tonight. I just think that they’d be far better prepared if their league campaign threw up more difficult fixtures from time to time.

I think Bayern just need a healthy team one of these yeears. They always have so many injured key players missing the important CL matches. Nonetheless they looked great today, luck just wasn't on their side again.

Just missing goal scorers someone like Icardi would score a lot of goals in that team. Plus they need replace Ribery.

Why replace Ribery?

He was by far Bayern's best player in both legs.

They have Coman for the wing. He was looking very good until his injury. Would have probably been fit for the CL final, too.
His decision making improved by miles under Heynckes this season.

He's also 35.
. . . and players 5/6 years younger than him (Muller, Lewi. . .) gave a heck of a lot less.

Let's not be ageist here.
