It’s so stupid I shouldn’t have to reply
The only way anyone could see them as a direct rival is if you have some kind of childish grudge against them for their transfers. They are not a direct rival. Liverpool are a direct rival. End of.
Seriously some of you lot fail to get what it means to be a Manchester United fan
Real took Ronaldo off us, they’re the only club who could take DDG off us. Maybe if they stopped doing that, we wouldn’t have to fret over Liverpool winning No. 6 so much by now.

In saying this, of course I’d rather Real win out of the two but it really doesn’t reflect any better on us.

This thread went from eliminating City because they are more dangerous, not minding facing Roma to Madrid not being a better choice in the final.

No one took him from us, he wanted to go away.

I don't care much about the final now, but i will cheer a little for Liverpool. Mainly because of Klopp and because i don't want Real to win it thrice in a row. Especially because they don't deserve it.

To be fair, the enjoyment of seeing Liverpool fail will then be replaced with the acknowledgement that Madrid have gone and won three successive crowns - the most we've have managed in our history. And we like to think we stand shoulder to shoulder with them...
Come off it. Madrid already have 12 CLs, I don't think any of us can have realistic expectations of living to see United catch them.

13 makes no difference whatsoever.

Liverpool on 6? That'd hurt a whole lot more than "Agguuerrooo...", much much much more. :nervous:

Why do Real not deserve to win it? Of the two teams involved, they have had the more difficult path to the final by a fairly large margin. Of course they deserve to win it.

Just NO !!! Real are not a favored team but rather they win it than Liverpool.
If they did win it , this season would be a disaster, even with 2nd place and possible FA Cup win.
This.

City win the Prem, Liverpool win the CL? The stuff of nightmare.

Bayern was better, but come on, Real have been clutch in the CL. And they were better than PSG and Juve over two legs.

You don't need to be a great team to nullify or beat Liverpool, you need to be disciplined. You do however have to be outstanding to outplay them with expansive football and a high defensive line - its almost impossible.

The tactical naivety shown by Roma in the first leg, by City in both legs and the other teams they have faced in Europe is staggering. Ironically I'd fancy us or an Atletico Madrid to beat them over two legs.

I fear that Madrid will play as others have against Pool, taking the game to them and getting destroyed by the long ball. The way the game is set up tonight and the first leg gives Roma no hope of not conceding at least 2 goals, it's over in other words.

Thrice in a row would be a huge achievement, one that United can only dream of equaling.

They don't deserve it thrice in a row in my opinion. Simply because they didn't deserve to go through against Bayern yesterday and because Bayern got cheated last year.

A team to win the CL thrice in a row should be by far(!) the best team in europe, without any doubts. But they aren't. They simply aren't.

You're right about that.

It's a cup competition, though. Cups are often won by teams that aren't the best team in the competition. Happens all the time.

Which situation would you guys prefer?
1. Liverpool win CL for 6th time; we also win FA Cup.
2. Liverpool lose in CL final; we also lose in FA Cup final.
Honestly I'm torn. Our FA Cup win would be pretty much forgotten by everyone, and would seem a bit of an anti-climax if it meant having to spend the entirety of the 18/19 season listening to their fans singing '6 times' and the media love in.

You’re a neutral passive fan. God I hate that type

Oh and yes, yes it does
As a Liverpool fan whose first memory of watching football was crying as an 8 year-old, after Utd had beaten Liverpool in the '77 cup final, I'm with you all the way.

I recall many Liverpool fans saying they hoped Utd would win the title instead of Chelsea, when the Russian money started taking over. I could never get that! I said that Chelsea could win it 10 years on the trot and I'd be happy as long as Utd didn't win it! I don't get the Utd fans on here who don't feel the same way about Liverpool. Doesn't sit right somehow

Liverpool Utd is THE main rivalry and both sets of fans should wish constant misfortune on the other team. That's how it should always be. C'MON CHELSEA!!! (cup final lol).

Yeah, i know that. That's why i prefer Liverpool to win it over them, even though they surely are not the best team in Europe aswell. But for Madrid it's about the third time in a row. And to achieve that, you should be the undisputed #1, which they aren't this season.

Real and Bayern are the best teams of this decade, easily. But to win it a fourth time in 5 years is just too much if you consider this years performance.

If I am being honest 2 , because them winning the CL would spoil the FA Cup win , stupid yes maybe it it , but can't stand the thought of them going 6 times 6 times.

Thats cup football for you , not always the best team wins, even if Real won with a dodgy 98th min pen , I would rather that then Liverpool!

Liverpool have Gini and Van Dijk. Real have Ronaldo and Ramos.

I dislike both clubs, but the above edges it for me. I will not be attending the caf during the final :)

Naturally. Preferring to lose the FA Cup final is what being a true Man Utd fan is all about.

For the record, I’m supporting Roma tonight. True story.

Would prefer Pool to get knocked out by Roma mainly because of the attack on City's Team Coach and don't want those scumbag fans to profit from it. There's also the goodwill towards Dzeko and Kolarov.

If Pool do reach the final I'll probably support them over Real who are just horrible at all levels.

I fecking hate the fact that Mardid have limped into another Final. They haven't really impressed throughout the competition and now find themselves close to winning three in a row. For such a prestigious tournament, i find the fact that they can do this dilutes the tournament somewhat.

Saying that, i will be their biggest fan on the day. I'll have my Madrid scarf waving for sure. Just shudder at the thought of those cnuts from Liverpool winning it. Christ, come one Roma, stop it from getting that far! FFS

What about scenario 3? We lose the FA cup and Liverpool win the CL. I'd be physically sick.

The greatest thing that could happen this season, is Liverpool throwing away that 5-2 lead tonight. I'm still confident Ronaldo will do the business in the final anyway.

It would take a miracle with the way these two teams play. Roma got it horribly wrong in the first leg, trying to deploy tactics they used against Barca - high line, press, and got absolutely destroyed by the long ball. They don't have the pace to sit back and counter. Now in the second leg, they need to 'go for it' which means playing similarly to the first leg.

Liverpool will pick them off with the long ball/counter again and will score 2 goals as a minimum. I actually expect Liverpool to win the match tonight and comfortably.

I double down on this.

I'd like to type a post stating that my support for Manchester United is stronger than my hate for Liverpool, but I'd just be kidding myself.

The dark side rages inside of me. I would feebly give up an F.A Cup win for a Ronaldo hattrick. Or a 1-0 victory courtesy of a 97th minute offside Sergio Ramos handball. Anything at all. Maybe they can cancel the match?

I was in Istanbul back in '05 with a couple of Scouse mates. Part of a Euro holiday jolly. Nothing could be worse than that but I'd rather not re-live it again with the same mates from afar.

I'm even thinking about betting a load of cash on Liverpool to win just so something positive comes out of a Scouse victory.

I’m probably the way I am because I started supporting the club when Big Ron was still in charge and Bryan Robson was god. That 1985 FA Cup gave me a feeling that everything else has been measured against since.

What Liverpool did never bothered me back then and I’m not going to let what they might do ruin this summer either.

This makes it even weirder. You grew up when Liverpool were in full slabberdom. How can you not hate them?

I think a lot of the people that say they will cheer on Liverpool in a CL final are not United fans. There are a lot of supporters from other clubs here too.

That’s not what I’m implying. Liverpool holding double the number of European cups would be nauseating, that’s for sure.

I’d sooner Madrid kept winning the thing if it meant Liverpool not. But Madrid’s success only serves as a reminder that’s all - particularly as they were pretty hopeless in the competition for most of the 00’s. United have underachieved in Europe - even Ferguson admitted that.

Given that we consistently vie with Madrid to be the most valuable club on the planet and have the resources to match, it’d be nice if we could back that up with more European success.

Cheering for Liverpool in the Finals, solely because they are the lesser evil (and much as I hate to admit, I like Salah and Mane). Real winning will only embolden them to continue with their slimy tapping up of other stars, some of who may be ours (DDG). We have to keep sight of our goal to rebuild towards becoming one of Europe's best once more, and to do that, we need a core of at least 5-7 truly world class players. Madrid (and Barca) already have a built-in advantage on South American prospects thanks to the language and culture, and RM winning another one will only increase their drawing power EVEN further.

Liverpool winning it for the 6th time (la) doesn't hurt as much when you remember the gap between the two Manchester-based clubs and them plus the London trio.

Agree with all that, but to be fair, there's something about Real Madrid and the CL.

Even the rest of the super clubs don't come anywhere close to that lot. Barca & Bayern are both on 5, better than us, but a long long way behind Madrid.

Are you a United fan? If so what have you been smoking? :houllier:

Do you seriously think 13 CLs will make them that much more attractive than 12? DDG will stay or go regardless of what happens in Kiev.

6 times la will be the most painful footballing incident since.... 5 times la.

If Madrid lose the season that can be great it will immediately turn into a bad season, so the desire for reconstruction will be much greater. In any case I do not think that a victory or a defeat changes the idea of trying to sign the best players.

Not everyone here works/lives in NW England with Scouse co-workers/bosses/friends/family members.
It's about being top dogs domestically and catching up with Liverpool in Europe. Surely every United fan can see that?
