Reminded me a lot of the LvG days.

I wonder how good we could be with an offensive genius like a Pep or Klopp or Tuchel or Sarri.

I am not too bothered by the result tbh, since our place in top 4 is secured. I was just hoping for some free flowing football since there is no big stakes to play for in the league now. But my god, the performance was awful.

Front 3 were poor, but midfield 3 were horrible. ONly De Gea, SMalling and ROjo were good. Our team is so habituated to play in the back foot, play without taking any risk and always filling the space rather than being a little adventurous. THe team is geared towards make no mistakes, and do not concede approach, so when we need to do a bit different from that, we fall short.

The real problem is we will see same next year too, good enough results but just so dull football. Bringing few new players do not change things much, they will slowly habituate to our team's approach.

Mentality is the key issue for me.

The players simply can’t maintain the level required for a full season.

But it has nothing to do with Jose, and he will get rid of the ones not up to his standards sooner or later!

Being 2nd for an entire season proves United are not miles away, but performances like tonight need to be eradicated before the league can be won again.

Yet the 3 worst performers on the pitch were Matic, Pogba and Fellaini, 2 of whom he starts all of the time.
Matic wasn’t one of the worst tonight no chance. Pogba had a honker and Fellaini is Fellaini. But what about Darmian Young Mata Martial and Rashford is that Jose fault they can’t do basics well?

You think Rashford is good enough to be playing at number 9?
If he is allowed to develop there, sure. Not as a target mman but something similar to SAF/Queiroz's fluid 433. He played his best games there when lvg brought him through.

There are still people who think Rashford and Martial should start ahead of Lukaku and Sanchez. Amazing.
Who both started against West Brom and were awful despite playing regularly.

Yes, definitely not worth it, especially since he has barely produced the goods since arriving. Good player, but definitely not the Alexis of a few years ago. Other players we are interested in (along with agents like Raoila) will see what we are paying Alexis and now expect similar wages before entertaining a move to United.
Far to quick to draw an opinion on Sanchez for me buddy, he has had no preseason and an interrupted season. He’s barely been here long enough to say he’s not Alexis of a few seasons ago Raoul. I’ll hold off on my judgment just now.

Where did I credit any of them? Matic, Pogba and Fellaini were the engine room, they gave the ball away time after time and never provided a decent ball to the forwards, Mourinho's sarcastic shot at the 2 kids up top is bogus because the players he does play all of the time were the worst performers, he shouldfn't be scapegoating, the entire team was garbage tonight bar De Gea.

I think this fan sums it up very well. Jose blaming Martial and Rashford is a load of bullshit and deflecting from the bigger picture. We've had plenty of games where we look absolutely clueless with Sanchez and Lukaku - the most recent being the WBA game.

He could easily prove he is the Alexis of old by playing like the Alexis of old. He's been good so far, but hardly in a world beater category that warrants half a million a week in wages.

SAF 433 was filled with world class players. Rashford is simply not good enough yet.

Never said you credited any them but what I did say was Matic wasn’t worse than any the guys you never mentioned. Rashford and Martial were poor and they are a million miles of being top players at this stage.

Wages are inflated due to transfer situation. I don’t think anyone warrants that to be fair and I doubt very much he is on 1/2 million a week if I’m being honest. Let’s wait till next season before truly judging him is what I think.

I stayed up until 6am for that. 2 hours sleep and now off out. Shit day ahead.
Luckily I am not working today and can have a curry and a wank later to salvage some pride.

I said the 3 CM's were the worst players on the pitch today and I stand by that, they were easily outworked by the Brighton midfield and were sloppy all game long on the ball, giving it away constantly and never once providing the passes for the forwards, so Mourinho shouldn't be throwing shade at the 2 young players, it's totally unwarranted when his personal favourites were complete garbage tonight..

I think you are making excuses, and not just Sanchez, but the whole team there is something quite not right with it. Without De Gea we would be down in Arsenals position.

Tonight's performance was similar to at least another 6-8 games this season in the way we played, these performances and not picking up points against these sorts of teams are the reason we didn't even really compete for the league this year and won't again next season unless we sort it out. I probably said verbatim what i'm about to in those post match threads also.

Where is the width?

You can't go away to a team fighting for survival and have two right footers on the left with both always looking to cut-in, you need one of them to overlap. Then on the left a trio of Darmian, Fellaini and Mate, starting those 3 together on one side of the pitch is basically planning to have no width and zero creativity or threat down one whole side of our attack.

You need width to stretch them out and create opening in the middle, we basically played right into their hands. Mourinho needs to fecking sort this out in the summer with new wingers and fullbacks. And I hope thats the last time i see fecking Darmian and Mata playing together. The two of them are about as athletic and dynamic as Laurel and Hardy.

To sum it up when a relegation team can beat a supposedly big team quite easily then its an aberration. When it happens a few times then its a calamity. I cant put my finger on it, whether its Mourinhos tactics or its the squad. All I know is we need to improve drastically next season if we are to have a go at winning the premier. European cup - forget it.

I don't even begin to understand how anyone can point fingers at Jose for this one. He is as miffed as the rest of us. Absolutely inexcusably shite performance from the team tonight. Inexcusable. Its about time players are held accountable, rather than the easy target Mourinho. Awful

No chance was Matic worse than Rashford.
I think he was, the 3 CM's were utter dogshit both defensively and offensively IMO, it doesn't mean Rashford played well but he wasn't as bad as the 3 CM's in my view.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Theres so much average throughout the team we have to accept that United have done fantastic to be in 2nd place.

Because on paper and with Joses tactics we really shouldnt be 2nd.

Don't think he's saying that. Saying it's beyond those who played tonight.

Utterly terrible, it's amazing how often these performances happen for a team in second place. The players that came in proved again that they're not good enough.

Fair enough I would say, but then again, did he say to United, hey before you pay me these massive wages you have to know I havent had a pre-season here and moving from Arsenal is going to interrupt me a bit more, a couple of injuries as well, so lets hold on here.

No, of course not. If the player can command the kind of wages he did, the least the club as whole can command is some kind of effort to justify them.
