Jose Mourinho would be open to letting Manchester United’s Anthony Martialgo to Chelsea, but on the provision that Willian comes in the other direction.
Now, I know Delaney isn't the most reliable of sources, but we've seen it happen only last January, albeit in different circumstances.

How would you feel; if we ended up with Willian and Martial went the other way?

Personally, I think Willian is a great player and does a lot for the team as well. Exactly the type of player that Mourinho likes. I also, have a lot of respect for Willian as he was the only player that I recall not to have downed tools in that season when Jose was sacked by Chelsea. It looks like Martial is leaving either way now, so if we can get RW, a RW we desperately need, I wouldn't be against this deal.

I'd definitely have him at United, if it helped Mourinho to lead us to the PL or the CL. And I think with the right players Mourinho will bring us major success.

What's your opinion?

No for Willian, yes for Pulisic. I dont want to swap rising star with high potential for 29 years old player who will even turn to 30 on august.

I like Willian a lot but I wouldn't want to sell Martial to another PL team, could seriously bite us in the arse.

If Martial "needs" to be sold then it should, and I believe will be abroad.

No freaking way. Can't sell him to someone in the league. End of.

I have no issue with Martial leaving if we replace him. He just doesn't seem like he wants to be here anymore - so good luck to him. By no means should that possibly strengthen a rival.

If we do this it's madness.

We need to build something for the long term, not buy aging players who need to be replaced every few years.

I like Martial but this would make sense for me.
We lack a quality RW while we have Alexis and Rashford who play on the left.

Hopefully we would then see Chong take over from Willian in a few years, if he continues to progress.

It would be a typical Jose move, replacing potential for established player.

Martial also arguably has a higher ceiling so would not be happy to see him swapped.

Mourinho said it before - that he had no issues selling to other domestic rivals. In fact, he suggested; it should be done more frequently. The article also suggests that: Woody will back in whatever plans he has. This could actually happen imo.

I rate Willian but Martial has wc potential. Nobody knows if Mourinho will stay in 2020. Would be really a dumb move to lose Martial now.

I'm reluctant to swap within the league - especially when Chelsea are highly likely to have Sarri next season.

Delaney is a genuinely awful jounalist though so doubt it'll happen.

Yeah, that was just my opinion, I think it definitely could happen and I really like Willian as a player. I just really don't feel comfortable, unless we get a sh*t tonne of cash as well, that we get the better deal out of this.

I think we would have cash plus player type deal as Willian is obviously getting on a bit. I should add, I wouldn't be very comfortable, in straight swap deal either.

Yeah, he's quite crap but it's a type of deal I could definitely see. Chelsea and us don't seem to have much bad blood. We've done deals with them recently. We've swapped players recently. Mourinho isn't against selling top quality players to rivals. Ironically, one being -- Juan Mata. So this, I could definitely see happening.

No frickin way should we even consider this. Only was we should even think of selling him to Chelsea is if we get Hazard in return. I know he too prefers the left but he is such an incredible player that he will still tear it up on the right side.

Everyone was shocked he did that. But we should not do the same mistake. Crazy to even consider it. You think Perez would have let Jose sell a young talented player to Barca only because Jose thinks it's fine.
Moreover, let Jose last the third season here and win something substantial (PL/CL) before we start blindly following him.

No chance.

Martial is better and younger, this would be a mistake.

Stupid move. William would come here already planning his retirement while Martial tuns world class at Chelsea.

Well, we got Matic and he turned out alright. I'm 99% sure, Willian will be a success for us. So does it really matter if Martial is successful at Chelsea or elsewhere? If everyone is happy, then surely; -- it's a good deal?

And of course, Perez wouldn't let him do that but Abramovich let him sell a fans favourite and Chelsea POTY two years running, so I'm sure Woodward would sanction this deal if Jose wanted it.

Absolutely no way. Martial is the bigger talent with the bigger potential. The spot of a 30 year old attacker in team has already been taken sorry. We need to build for the future and get the best out of talents like Martial to be able to dominate hopefully. Because they are the players that can take us to that level if we keep faith in them. Willian is coming to the end soon and will be replaced so why should we give them someone who can possibly be here for the next 10 years and take another short term solution? No thanks. Willian is good but Martial is better.

We all love United
I'm all for selling Marital if he doesn't want to be here, but not to teams in the Premier League and certainly not to our direct competitive rivals

Classic Mourinho move. He'll probably end up back at Chelsea anyway for another stint. Then his lovers would call it a genius move.

We need to be more like Real and less like Chelsea, that is for sure in terms of player recruitment. As for Matic, he was replacing Schweinsteiger. So it made sense that we are replacing a player in complete decline with a top one who was in his peak. Plus selling Matic has been disastrous for Chelsea especially as they replaced him with Bokayako who has been abysmal. You think if something similar happened, it would make the fans here happy?

Selling Martial for William is ludicrous because we would be replacing a potential world class talent with a decent player nearing the end of his peak than the start.

Also, it does matter if Martial is a success for Chelsea. Anyone in their right mind would know if that's the case, we should never strengthen a rival.

That's my biggest fear, we give Chelsea Martial, they hire Sarri and all of a sudden he's one of the best players in the league. Coaches like him with well defined attacking philosophies are great at getting the most out of highly talented players and regardless of what everyone thinks about Martial, I'm pretty sure we can all agree he's in that category.

As of this moment, I can’t see Martial becoming world class. He just doesn’t have the attitude or application.
Why do people assume Willian would drop off a cliff at age 30?
We’d still get 2 top seasons out of him and to be quite honest, now is when we need players to be performing. Not possibly performing consistently in a few years.

If we are selling Martial, I hope its to a non-PL club, along with a buy-back provision. In fact, I wouldnt mind us exploring a multi-year loan deal with a possibility to sell later on.

Should've just loaned out every single young player we had as soon as appointed him to be honest.

Imagine Martial coming with Chelsea and tearing is apart? Mourinho would need to find a new country.

I just don't rate him all that highly. Decent player, with a good work ethic but he doesn't add anything special to me.

He's never really stood out to me at Chelsea and I doubt they'd miss him all that much.

The problem is, we are not Real. And we never will be. We can't have the same transfer policy as them for various reasons.

I know it has been disastrous for Chelsea, but I feel Willian is also a key player for Chelsea. So losing him to us will also hurt Chelsea.

Also, hypothetically speaking, if Martial is a success at Chelsea next season, then it's reasonable to assume that he will be a successful player at most clubs. Why sell him in the first place? If he hasn't got Jose's backing, then I'm fine with him leaving as I know there isn't much wd can do about it. Yes it could be another Salah, KdB situation but if you rate him that highly, then - it's already going to be. What I'm saying is; at least get a player that Jose likes in return, instead of being left with a wad of cash, that we might spend on Pulisic who might be another dud from Dortmund.

If Hazard doesn't move to Madrid this summer, where is Martial going to play for them exactly ?

Willian seems like a fit guy, who could play well in to his 30’s. Hard-working winger, with a lot of skills in the bag. The transfer would make sense for us if we got 20m + Willian.

Selling Martial will come back and haunt us at some point, no matter where he is, so i don’t really care where he goes, besides City and Pool.

I’m for it, under the right circumstances.

Hahaha.

Swapping a 22 year old with huge potential for a 30 year old would be peak fecking Mourinho. Short term focus at its finest.

I really hope he's not that stupid.

Why not just sign Willian for cash monies and keep Martial, if anything...
