He may have questioned him in the past but the form Martial was in prior to Sanchez arrival would've made him think. He was on course to get around 20 goals this season.
There's absolutely feck all guarantee he would get that though. It's a pointless argument to make.

You think other players are bothered? Come on. Players want money, success and playing time. If you give them that they would be happy. If not, they will leave.
We have a lot of squad players who don't play all the time. Why don't they all want to leave, too?

How should I know? I'm not Mou and I also don't believe Mou is some perfect fair individual. However, I'm going to use what I can see. And what I did see is that Sanchez got chance after chance despite being mediocre.

I'm not going to absolve any criticism of Mou just because for all we know there is something going on in training that proves Sanchez should keep playing the bulk of minutes. Fact is Sanchez was not good and yet was given chance after chance.
You don't know, you're speculating based on your existing views.

I don't know, I'm speculating based on the assumption that the manager is a professional.

I remember people saying Welbeck will be a new Henry. Maybe not a good comparison cause Martial is of course lot more talented but just to portray the panic we're seeing here now.
Difference is that Martial performs statistically, when it comes to creating chances for himself and others (with all the xG metrics), progressive runs up the pitch, dribbling past players, etc, and then actually scoring and assisting. Martial was one of the top players in the league for those metrics per 90 minutes. At least before Sanchez came he was definitely in the top 10 I think. Overall this season I'm not sure but i remember still seeing him on the list somewhere.

Why do people say he's been treated or handled bad?
He's had his chances, been inconsistent and underperformed.
Sanchez is a better player and i rather Rashford gets minutes than Martial.
I rather see a local lad who cam through the academy gets the minutes, and the difference between Rashford and Martial isn't as big as many on here thinks. Also a bigger chance he stays loyal to the club if we don't do well.
Plus i care about us developing local and English players.
The thing with Martial is he seems to have based his form this season off of sub appearances. The abiding memory I have of this season is Rashford / Martial starting, not play very well then get subbed for the other who tears it up.
As soon as both players evened out, the sub appearances couldn't cover their okish performances and it petered out.
Martial did curl in a few goals from outside the box around the new year but it was almost at the expense of support for Lukaku.
We need to play more as a unit to catch City IMO. Someone who doesn't need to take on 3 men at once to be effective going forward.

Some of these comments about him being weak mentally, lazy, cowardly etc are a bit ridiculous tbh. He is 22 years old.

Other than Lukaku, which of our forwards deserve more playing time than Martial?
Did he get that much less minutes than others? Is he way superior to others?

Welcome to the forum. During the season, we had people calling for Lukaku to be dropped so Martial to be played in his favorite position (!). Once it's clear Lukaku is better for the role, it's Alexis' issue, when our result against top team which was previous moaned about, improved with a so called bad Alexis.

V disappointed if he does leave, there's an argument that younger player don't want to hang around and fight for their place these days but I have seen nothing from Sanchez to suggest he's an improvement on Martial. I'm not even sure he's an improvement on someone like Depay at this point...

Am hoping he stays one more season and wins Jose over - he will be top drawer wherever he goes. Unbelievable talent.

He was doing it on the pitch and then he got promptly dropped again anyway. The manager has his favourites and it's obvious that Martial isn't one of them.
He was ‘promptly’ dropped after starting three of our next four league games and being shite in them. Meanwhile he refuses to sign a contract and rumours start coincidentally coming out that he wants to leave. All the talent in the world isn’t going to make up for his questionable mentality.

I think he’s a good player but he’s being overhyped. The only area of the game he really excels in is finishing. If he’s as talented as is being hyped and the only reason he’s playing poorly is because of Mourinho then why isn’t he off to the World Cup anyway. Would Argentina not take Messi if he’d been dropped for a few weeks?

Err, we are talking about Mourinho right?

I don't want Martial to go anymore than the next man, but let me just say this....

Clubs sign players. They always have and they always will. When we signed Alexis, Martial could of fought for his place OR could of done what we all expected and decided to embrace playing of the right like he did when Alexis came in. Instead, it mentally did him and he's thrown in the towel on his Manchester United career.

I dont know abut xg metrics, I'm just saying it like I see it. It's a mass panic but imo he's a bit overrated here. Maybe it will be a big blow or maybe he'll never become a world class player.

In any case he could have stayed and fought, not to mention his agent was talking up a move even last year.

Shame if he leaves but hopefully we can get somebody in his place who'll simply fit the system better, preferably on the other wing so that the left one is left for Rashford and Alexis.

He can fight all he wants. Mourinho brought Sanchez in and no matter the form, he wasn't being dropped, as we witnessed...

You sure? Martial had 11 goals by the end of January. Then Sanchez came and Martial didn't score for the rest of the season. Sanchez scored 3 goals and he was starting pretty much every game. There's a very.good chance Martial would've got 20 if he'd been continued starts off the back of a top January.

Go back to his form before the January transfer window. He had his chances and took them. He was playing very well and then Sanchez came and screwed it all up.
He played well in January, but - from recollection - was inconsistent and without goals the month before. It is not like he was brilliant throuhout prior to Sanchez arriving, just like its not as if he hasn’t been given chances after either. Sanchez is a better player, albeit completely new to the team, and I think next year will show that it was smart to give these months to get used to the team.

Ahh, Mou the professional. The same guy that poked the eye of another coach. Come on man. Using your logic Mou is some God who can do no wrong. Why? Because something behind the scenes is going on that makes him 100% right.

It’s a shame. But then again he hasn’t taken the chances he is given. Not yet consistent enough. You earn your place, you don’t just warrant one.

If agent quotes are true - then it’s everything out of the pram. Contract talks, blaming Sanchez signing for ruining his season (when he only had a month of form), manager etc.

Players need to be willing to fight. Martials character doesn’t seem to have it - not yet anyway.

Yes that's obviously what I said.

I don't know why I ever thought a sensible discussion could take place on this, that's my fault, sorry.

What does that have to do with team selection?

Sanchez will have to make a massive improvement because he's been terrible since his arrival. And still played practically every week for some reason.

People are too quick to overhype every young player we buy or promote from within. Januzaj, Depay, Anderson, Jones, Rashford, Martial. Before they've achieved anything they are being called the best young prospects in world football.

Well, maybe, or maybe not. He may believe that he'd break into our first XI. But in any case there are complications with Son coming soon with compulsory military service for S.Korea … and it's not clear how - or even if - this can be resolved. So perhaps (?) Spurs might see this as an opportune moment to sell him.
I don't think we'd sell him to Spurs given the recent impass in transfers between the clubs. Also, given the apparent quoted price of Alderweireld it wouldn't be cheap.

I'm sure Son will get out of the military service, and if he didn't who would buy him?

Lingard had a good run of form in the winter and people extend it over the entire season like he had a great season. Lingard is average. Most of his games are average. I actually really like him, but if he deserves to start all the time, then Martial deserved untouchable status after his first half of the season.
The exact can be said about Martial, yes he lost his spot to Sanchez but he never regained the form he showed prior to Alexis joining. Lingard and Martial had an almost identical season, yet one demands playing time and the other works hard, does what he's asked to do and fights for his spot. I'd love it if Martial stayed, and I don't blame him for wanting more time, but if he doesn't love the club enough to stay and fight then selling him is better for both parties.

I particularly like the reference to the three player of the months he won. His agent must post on here with shite like that. Winning an online popularity contest is relevant somehow. I hope for his sake that wasn’t part of he contract negotiations.

I agree he is overrated to a degree, and since Mourinho for the time being is staying, there is no point in keeping Martial imo. 60m or whatever we get for him is probably more helpful to us then what Martial would bring under Mourinho in charge next season, as we can spend that on someone who suits Mourinho way more.
The issue is that many on here (including myself) really dont like Mourinho and hope he leaves the club soon, and after that Martial could get back on track here like he'll likely do wherever he goes this summer. But it is what it is.

What does poking in eye has to do with anything? Even a professionals sometimes make mistakes?
Of course he's not 100 percent right but brigging up Tito episode is completely unnecessary.

Yes that is what you said. Because you are not using any evidence at all and instead are citing something off the pitch, of which there is no evidence for. I'm using on the pitch performances and minutes relating to on the pitch performances. All of which are seen by both of us.

Yes, that is exactly how you are coming off.

Except he hadn't been played consistently long before Sanchez arrived. And again, he had his agent sounding off to the press about leaving during his second season, too.

Counting on that is ridiculous though. No club should function like that. Oh lets loan a player and see if we'll sack the manager soon.
A manager who has never stayed at a club for more than 3 seasons, is it really that contrived that the club would be thinking of a contingency plan?

I think Jose saw this coming so its either give Sanchez games to settle in or play Martial who he thinks is leaving in 5 months.
There's a lot of parallels to Toby's situation with Spurs.

Well I hope we'll have a good next season and win something and selling Martial wont be an issue at all if we'll sell him at all. Maybe he'll stay one more year.
I know many want to get rid of Jose asap but he's staying one more year at least. But it's a make or brake for me too. Have a successful season or it's time to go.

It's pretty clear to anyone without an agenda that Jose's reigned that side of his personality in, so much so that people have actively been deriding him for being no longer being a nutty maverick. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
