Day 4: Costa Rica vs Serbia, Germany vs Mexico , Brazil vs Switzerland

Looked like a pen to me.

No idea what Phil Neville is talking about.
He spouts garbage, saying no contact when there clearly was.
Would've been very soft though.

How is blatantly pulling the shoulder down with your hand 'hardly any contact'?
This.

Was a pen, Hummels lost him and in desperation pulled him back and pushed into him.

Hernandez has spent all day on the floor, it really goes against you in penalty situations when you do that.

Marquez must be about 46.

Clear push on Chicharito for me. When he slows down, the onus is on the defender to not get sucked into making a stupid challenge. Defender took the bait and should've conceded a penalty IMO.

Do you think Smalling and Jones are better??

Smalling is a much better defender than Hummels. Hummels is a better footballer though.

I do think Hummels is a bit overrated. He isnt quick or strong and prone to mistakes. He is good for teams who dominate and dont have to defend too much. Boateng is a much better player imo.

Losing any will to counter, after you destroyed the team with it in the first half.

Could Germany surely become the THIRD straight defending WC champion to go out in the group stage? Italy and Spain managed this last two world cups

That seems too defensive too fast from Mexico. Also Chicha has actually been great in terms of hold up play.

This is what I don't get...

Yesterday Griezmann gets a slight tap on the back of his leg, and goes down like a sack of shit...everyone reckons it's a definite penalty

Today, Hernandez does down with someone pushing down on his shoulder... No penalty or VAR or anything...

No less than the contact on Ronaldo for his pen against Spain.

Was he? He was key to playing the wrong ball on all the counters
Picking the wrong pass but making key runs with the ball and showing very good touches. Key to starting them, though the final ball has been off all game for them.

Germany need more quality players in their squad. Their midfield is not balanced. They also miss other experienced players like Schweinsteiger, Klose, Lahm.

They have both quality and experience in abundance.

Reus has done more in ten minutes playing out of his favourable positions than the rest of the offense in the whole game. Who would have guessed.

Kroos is ridiculously good, you let him 10 seconds alone and he finds the way to hurt you
