Really, it's not? Why is Fifa taking disciplinary actions against them then? Couldn't care less about the Serb/Albanian conflict but politics have no place in football, and that's the way it should be.During the Yugoslavian wars there were massive migration from Albanians in all over the Europe. Switzerland - together with Germany - are the countries where Albanians integrated best. While we feel part of those countries, we also keep the Albanian identity and are proud of it, so it is common - like in the case of Xhaka and Shaqiri - to feel both Albanian and Swiss. Shaqiri has been playing for years with shoes which have the flags of Switzerland, Kosovo and Albania so it is nothing new, and it is not a provocation for Serbia, it is just the way it is.
Good for you then. I was more referring to the guys ridiculing another poster who said they should be punished. Not so ridiculous now.Right here. I'm still OK with the celebration.
Agree. Lichtsteiner seems like a man who gets carried away by emotions. He probably didn't realise what he was doing. Sheep effect.
I was arguing the same thing yesterday. Apparently, according to a Swiss poster, they don't have anything against it. Which I find hard to believe. It's like if Özil would pick up a Turkish flag after scoring for Germany.Goddamit :/
Well I kinda agree with FIFA charging them here. While I can understand why they'd harbour a dislike for the Serbians given their family histories, you have to try and keep it bottled up while on the pitch.
It's not very classy towards your own fans either. To be playing for Switzerland, scoring for them, and then doing the Albanian flag as a symbol on your celebration.
I think it's ridiculousGood for you then. I was more referring to the guys ridiculing another poster who said they should be punished. Not so ridiculous now.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosovo_WarCan someone educate me on the background to this
Apparently Shaqiri said something along the lines of he loves Switzerland, 100% for Switzerland but the celebration was for people he loves/loved ones.I was arguing the same thing yesterday. Apparently, according to a Swiss poster, they don't have anything against it. Which I find hard to believe. It's like if Özil would pick up a Turkish flag after scoring for Germany.
As a Swiss I can assure you that Lichtsteiner knew exactly what he was doing. He gave an interview about it confirming that he did it to support his swiss-albanian teammates. According to him they even had a talk about it before the game in the dressing room.Agree. Lichtsteiner seems like a man who gets carried away by emotions.
That has nothing to do on a football pitch. Same for Shaqiri. The rules are rules. He can do it on instagram or after thw game in the dressing room for 3 hours if he likeshttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosovo_War
Xhaka's dad was Kosovar Albanian and imprisoned for three years in a Serbian prison for protesting against the Serbian government.
I really think it isn't, at least for me. I didn't exactly like the provocation aspect of the celebration but I can totally understand that they got carried away in the heat of the moment. You have to know that the Serbian Media attacked both Shaqiri and Xhaka in the days before the game. They probably should have kept their cool a bit better, but in the end they're just human, aren't they?Apparently Shaqiri said something along the lines of he loves Switzerland, 100% for Switzerland but the celebration was for people he loves/loved ones.
It isn't a big deal.
Well that's a bit stupid. No-one concerned about a clear rule against it.As a Swiss I can assure you that Lichtsteiner knew exactly what he was doing. He gave an interview about it confirming that he did it to support his swiss-albanian teammates. According to him they even had a talk about it before the game in the dressing room.
Yeah I just took a look in the other thread and realised you were one of them. You condone politics in football, that's your view. Fortunately the people in power don't agree.I think it's ridiculous
Don't know about sending him to the Hague, send him to Specsavers instead. How he missed that double rugby tackle is beyond belief.Krstajic, coach of Serbia, apparently also suggested that he would like to send Brych (referee of that game) to Den Haag, "to put him on trial like they did with us" in a presser today.
Actually I didn't know about that rule and I think it's quite possible that Lichtsteiner and the others didn't either. It's also a bit strange that FIFA come up with that rule just now, because up until about 2014 most of our Swiss-Albanians often celebrated using the double-headed eagle. I think it was only with the arrival of Mr. Petković that the team and our Football Association decided to put a stop to it. Is that rule new or do they interpret it differently now?Well that's a bit stupid. No-one concerned about a clear rule against it.
100%Goddamit :/

They are indiscriminate when it comes to this.FIFA being FIFA then. I think the symbol was not classy at all but to be fined for it is stupid. Let players express their emotions if it does not hurt anyone. It is not like this is a symbol of oppression or anything.
I swear next they will ban kissing the badge because opposition supporters get offended. If a two headed eagle made by hands offends you you are the one who needs help. (and don't give me that spiel about Nazi symbols which is a totally different case)
Again, I feel people should be free to express their opinions even if it makes them look not so classy and cnutish if it doesn't hurt anyone.
What a scumbag. And in 2018 no less. Implying that the Serbs in question were unjustly put on trial for war crimes? Balkans people are fecking nuts.Krstajic, coach of Serbia, apparently also suggested that he would like to send Brych (referee of that game) to Den Haag, "to put him on trial like they did with us" in a presser today.
It adds fire to a already bad situation. Same would have been if the Serbs threw up three fingers after scoring the goal. It's political bullshit and has no place in football. That gesture was made because he scored against the Serbs. Never seen him celebrate with that in the PL.FIFA being FIFA then. I think the symbol was not classy at all but to be fined for it is stupid. Let players express their emotions if it does not hurt anyone. It is not like this is a symbol of oppression or anything.

That's because the Swiss don't struggle to understand that that a lot of their population is made up from people of various cultures and languages. You can be patriotic to your country but also have an affinity to the background of your ancestors.I was arguing the same thing yesterday. Apparently, according to a Swiss poster, they don't have anything against it. Which I find hard to believe. It's like if Özil would pick up a Turkish flag after scoring for Germany.
Laughing at Sweden's loss I guess.Where are the people who were ok with this?
They shouldn't punished, that's still ridiculous. Brining up FIFA's charges doesn't make this situation any less ridiculous. Freedom of speech and all.Good for you then. I was more referring to the guys ridiculing another poster who said they should be punished. Not so ridiculous now.
