I agree, which is why at the time I cautioned against getting too excited about Adnan after his initial string of performances. There were people here evoking CR7 and Zidane and you could tell that they were setting themselves up for a massive thud as soon as things went pair shaped. That's why its important to temper expectations and allow the player to surpass them as opposed to the other way around. I'm sure Adnan will have a decent career wherever he plays, I just don't think it will be here.
I went back and looked at the old threads the other day and it was quite a cautionary tale of overhyping young talent.

Lets be honest we've had so many come through who everyone thought was going to make it who then went into obscurity. If they can dribble a bit even more so.

Its why i don't like the idea of us perpetually signing these young talents from other clubs. Most of the time for whatever reason they don't live up to expectations. By 23-24 you can tell where they're truly at.

I think this is because Ronaldo happened. Granted he's a freak of nature but by 23-24 he was at was Real Madrid after having won everything for us.

It's worth the gamble in case one like him pays off. Then again, he had plenty of chances and time to develop. Some fans still wanted him sold before he came good, though they'd never now admit it now.

Happy for him making the world cup squad even though he is probably fourth choice winger for Belgium

Extremely happy for him if I'm honest. Looking like he's turning it around.

Martin Samuel ripping into him.

"Now with Real Sociedad, where he only started half the games as the club finished a mediocre 12th last season, Adnan Januzaj feels empowered to take a swipe at his former employers, Manchester United. "The problem with big clubs is that it is all business," he said. "The head coach attracts the big names and they must play. The young players are the victims."

Not Januzaj. He was given a great chance by David Moyes, lost his way under LVG, was loaned to Dortmund but couldn't break into the first team and then blew it back at Old Trafford with Jose Mourinho. Returning from an ill-judged pre season trip to China, Mourinho told his players to get some sleep as they would be training the moment they got off the plane, and could then go home to rest.

Januzaj did no heed this instruction, much to Mourinho's irritation, and trained poorly. He was made available soon after, a victim of nothing more than his own ill-discipline. It isn't always the club that is to blame.

Just noticed that he was in the Belgium squad in today's friendly - had not realized he made the Belgium world cup squad, glad for him.

He’s a good player and he could become a really good player if he cops on which I hope he does. It’s fair enough if he was cocky and immature, he was so young when he broke through here and he made some dodgy choices, not the end of the world.
Hopefully he can fulfill his undoubted potential. It at least shows our scouting and youth policy in a good light, not our fault his career hit the skids momentarily. Not sure he’ll play for us again though. I don’t think Jose will want to deal with him again.

Anyone else disappointed he didn't feature at all today? Despite being a big fan I am not sure who he can replace in the starting line up. How far down is he in the pecking order?

probably because this is the perfect chance for the manager to gain extra momentum and confidence. Probably he will feature in the 3rd match if they won the first two.

100 % believe it but I don’t blame the United staff for letting him go at this stage. I do blame lvg for halting his career but think he should have done better at Sunderland.
I think if he had been showing enough in training with belgium that he would have made an appearance v panama or tunisia, two very weak teams. Be interesting to see if he features v england.

What's this about? Unless you've got some bizarre expectations for the number of appearances for a player of Januzaj's development, LVG (in the first season) gave him opportunities (21 appearances total, 7 starts in the league).

Not only has he been a letdown but his attitude problems behind the scenes can't be forgotten about either.

7 starts after that season he had was bad. Also lvg played him as a striker. What makes it worse is depay started over him

Not it's not - it's perfectly fine for a player at his stage. Moyes should have never been using him so much in the first place. But whatever.

I don’t think it’s that. It’s just that Belgium’s current players are way more established with much better seasons under their belt

I’m a massive fan of his and his style of play. I have hopes of a Pogba like reunion.
Got it. Used to be a fan too, specially after that double against Sunderland. Now I feel that bumper contract killed him. The attitude rumours also haven’t been encouraging.

He is definitely the right profile of player I want to see play for United but his end product just wasn’t there at all.

Yeah but I don't think it could have killed him forever. He was young and made some mistakes. We all do at that age. Now he is 23, still young enough to get back on track.

Adnan starts! Make me proud son!!
I’m glad he’s starting. If the rumours about his “me me me” attitude are anything to go by then he won’t give a feck if his team want to finish second.

Been much better than Thorgan Hazard on the other wing. He's a good player, better than a lot of other wide players, with a lot of room to grow.

Looks fustrating but everything is coming down his side.
If we sign Rose I can see myself roaring at the TV. He's not supplying the strikers at all and doesn't have Young's ability to cross from deep.
A better version of Adnan would punish him going the other way as well, he just looks busy but it isn't getting him anywhere.
