This rule was brought in quite a few years back wasn't it? I'm surprised so many are in the dark.
Yes. Incredible how many don't know this.
It's still a straight red if the defender deliberately takes out the player (a professional foul). If they make a true attempt at the ball and just misjudge it then it's only a yellow.

The question is which is the case here. I'm not sure.

Of course they can still do the double punishment red and pen. Only if the player is trying to play the ball yellow is the correct call. In this case no chance at all to reach the ball just a tackle to prevent the clear goal and by that clear red for me

This was judged as an attempt to get the ball, and I can see why. The ball was there, he may even have got a touch. A last ditch tackle gone wrong.
He has to do it, no choice, 20% chance of saving a penalty beats a free shot at an open goal. You do it even if it is a red at that point.

That is stopping an obvious goal though. Does anyone really believe he would dive in like that if it wasn’t an open goal?
The two statements I said are separate. Handballs stopping obvious goals. Tackles that make no attempt to get the ball.

Just in case anyone missed it. I don't like Mount.

Anyway will be massively surprised if Croatia win this now.

Favoured Denmark even before the penalty, massively favour them now.

Not sure if Croatia even got 5 decent penalty takers on the pitch with Mandzukic and perisic off

This is a joke, please say it is a joke.
I'm sure selling DDG was a joke. But if we didn't have him I'd be very happy to go for Schmeichel. He's obviously not as good as his old man, but he's still very good in his own right. Other than DDG and Courtois (on a good day) he's probably the best in the league.

Denmark miss the first.
