Why are people expecting him to start games, when Jose has a history of not starting teenagers? What am I missing?
People hope he will be a runaway success. A hidden gem.
You can't fault people for hoping stuff.

Edit: I agree that he will take time to start getting regular football (adaptability), but don't agree with your reason for it (Jose)

We really just have to give him time. If he is good enough early on then he's good enough.

Is Fred's vision and passing accuracy on par with Iniesta's? he looks pretty scruffy to me. I would love it if that was the case though. I am just suspicious that he is the pass master required. When Carrick played 2 seasons ago, despite being aged, he offered the sort of control, tempo and movement of phases we needed. problem was it could not last due to his age.
I don't think he is a pass master, but thats not the only way to increase our creativity which he will I don't really doubt it.

Dalot was not humiliated or embarrassed at Anfield when Porto played Liverpool to a 0-0 draw. And he was playing at LB, which is not his best position. Since Valencia is so limited in attacking contribution, it's easy to see Dalot playing consistently better than Valencia at RB from the first matches of preseason on. Dalot isn't an immature, unprofessional diva like Shaw and Depay. That, and the quality of his play, will earn Mourinho's trust, imo.

there is Lindelof???
That’s my slight concern. I love young signings, and love this signing, but ideally he would have been bought when Valencia was still useful, and not when he’s already past it, to allow for that bedding in period.
Yeh. I don't have high hope on a 19 y/o player coming from other league to be an immediate solution. Next season could be a "sink or swim" season for Mourinho. Understandably, he won't have time to "bedding in" and gamble on youth player.

While you're probably correct, there is a chance he could adapt quicker than that. Also, chill, there's plenty of time before the Jim White window slams shut.
There's a very low chance he'd adapt quicker. At least, not with Mou as manager. He admitted himself is not an "arm over the shoulder-style" manager, especially for young players.

I actually like the type of Fred signing. He's at an age that mature enough but still have room to adapt and improve.

Why does everybody dislike Valencia all of a sudden. I mean he has his flaws and isn‘t the most offensive Fullback - still he‘s a reliable choice and in my opinion Top 5 RB in the league.

Don‘t get me wrong - I am very excited about Dalot‘s Transfer (probably even more than about Fred‘s...)

Saying a player is no longer good enough doesn't mean you dislike him.

Because there are some ungrateful twunts who claim to support the team. Constructive criticism about his lack of output etc I can deal with but given his years of service etc he deserves better.

I am excited about Dalot and Fred too. Now all we need is at least one more CM

Years of service have nothing to do with it. You’re either good enough or you’re not. Last season he was distinctly lacking, and when you consider the amount of time, space and possession he was afforded on that right side, he did very little with it. I’m sure no one has anything against Valencia personally, but just because he’s been at a club a long time it doesn’t mean we should ignore his shortcomings. We need a threat down that side, and with our right winger predominantly tucking it that thread should be coming from our right back.

Never seen him play, so can't comment. I am just hoping all the praise thrown on him comes true and he is a great success here. Welcome young man.

Yes and that's constructive which is what I was referring to in my post. What I can't stand and the poster alluding to, is the spite and hate that sometimes appears.
Oh and years of service do have a lot to do with it! Ignoring it is pretty glib

That is just crap, the young lad didn't show nothing at all to be considered better than Valencia who plays on his flank alone and can't hardly take risks to lose the ball trying to dribble players or have space to put in a cross. One would think we are buying an established player who is going to be an upgrade on Valencia already. That is BS. Valencia will be no1 option and the kid will get a chance here and there but I can't see him being any more effective going forward without an actual RW in front of him. He is also slower than Valencia and hardly a better dribbler too... Hard to judge his crossing ability on Youtube compilation but it seems there is al lot of people watching him every week!

Btw I keep fingers crossed for the Portuguese because we need some options so the sooner he hits the ground running the better but you are totally deluded if you think that Dalot will be immediately better than Valencia both offensively and defensively, with only 7 senior caps or so...

People are way too harsh on Valencia. We all know his shortcomings but he is still a decent player. Dalot is probably going to need time to bed in and we could do far worse than Valencia as a more experienced player who'll share the RB position with him.

I don’t like being negative about our players, but Valencia is not good enough for Man Itd, and rarely has been throughout his career. He had one fantastic season in tandem with Rooney, but is a poor footballer. He’s never been a good enough full back, and what’s shocking is how bad he is going forward. The fact that he’s captained us so often is absurd.

I can’t face anymore of Turn Back Tony.

I’ve never seen Dalot play but I just hope he’s good enough to oust Valencia sooner rather than later, a quality right back will make such a difference to the team.

That is just bullshit, if he wasn't enough how come he would be in United for so long and wearing an armband. That is a very crap comment to make, use your brain next time. Valencia had one great season as a winger and one decent, after the leg break he slowly regressed but transitioned to a RB role very well. He's fecking strong, wins almost every challenge and almost never make mistakes these days. Very reliable defensively. Attacking wise people still judge him as a winger can't believe it especially when he's playing on the right on his own as an actual RB. He's doing what he can but can't take risks as if he was a winger and had a fullback behind him. Don't wanna go into details for the hundred time because some people like you will never get it because of lack of knowledge or ability to analyze the game but let's just say if he played in Manchester city or Liverpool with a proper winger to combine with in a high pressing team he would be unstoppable.

Mourinho didn't call him the best RB in the world last season for nothing, he was simply fantastic for the most part. This season he did well too but generally it's doom and groom here and people want new toys so for some Dalot is already better player etc when they didn't see him play. Of course we need to find a replacement because Young and him are 33 next year but that doesn't mean they can't still play..

I think that Valencia will start next season as a first teamer. However I don't exclude him not ending as one. No disrespect to Valencia but signs of wear and tear are already showing and from what I heard Dalot is extremely promising. If a young fullback who had never dribbled a player in all his life can take the RB slot from an experienced English international with 19 caps under his belt then why can't Dalot do the same against a makeshift winger who tbf did a decent job as a RB.

maybe was way too much but it deserved such reaction for ignorant comment like that. Valencia not good enough and never was? what a nonsense. It is not even an opinion it is just ignorance..
I didn’t say he never was, but that he rarely has been. To say that Valencia would be unstoppable at City or Liverpool, I am afraid shows your ignorance - but then I don’t have a smart screen at home to analyse our games like you do! Yes, it’s an opinion, and it’s my right to have one that is different from yours.

If we had Walker for example instead of Valencia, it would transform our team, he simply is not good enough. It’s not a case of new toys, Valencia was never good enough at RB - as a squad option fine, but not as a first team player and certainty should not be captain.

The scary thing about Valencia is you'd think he's been a defender all his career saying how inept he is at attacking.

One of the great mysteries. If you told someone who had never seen him play that he was once a flying winger, they'd think you were taking the piss.

Would he have been in the Portugal squad had he not been injured I wonder?
Not right now, they've got Semedo / Cedric for RB

LB they've got Guerrero and Coentrao.

I'm sure by next WC he will be part of it though, if it all goes well.

RB - Cedric - Ricardo Pereira - Semedo - Cancelo

LB -
Guerreiro, Mario Rui, Antunes (Coentrão almost auto excluded himself from the squad)

Dalot will start the season on the bench and work his way up according to his performance in Cup games. If he does well, he'll start sharing games with Valencia with each one playing a game per week.

wow, walker and Valencia are on about the same level and few years back people were even laughing at Walker while Valencia was one of the best RB if not the best RB in the league. I rate Walker but he would hardly transform our team if he played with Mata in front of him who drifts inside and drops deep. He would hardly go forward and take on players. Valencia would do great in an attacking team like Mancity or Liverpool. If we get someone like Willian in front of him watch him getting involved much more attacking wise.

But keep your opinion for me it's just nonsense / stupid bias

How can you say he was never good enough is beyond me I attached some videos so you can review, as a RB in 16/17 definitely comfortably best RB in the league

It has nothing to do with being 'ungrateful' but the reality is that his years of service mean very little since no player is bigger then the club. We are not a small club. Every supporter KNOWS the problems and full backs are a big problem. If we want to improve, we had better get serious. No one is saying sell him! Push him out the club. He has to be benched though and then we shall see a loyal player no...

Flying but not productive enough. Nani was a better winger.

In 09/10, he was easily the most productive winger in the PL. Broke his leg in 10/11 when Nani had that season, and then came back in 11/12 and was again the best winger in the league, also winning our POTY. He was always productive and was one of the best forwards around until we gave him the no. 7 in Fergie's last year.

What year are we in though? I think the old idea was you can always improve. You should always look to improve. Valencia was a strong player BUT he's extremely limited also. I think we can do better. Bear in mind I watched since the early to mid nineties...and I don't care about this award or that award. Sharp, Wallace, Kanchelskis, Giggs, Beckham, Ronaldo and maybe others I've forgotten? Valencia would only challenge Wallace really. For me, as supporters we can become sentimental but it's often at a cost. It's not Valencias fault, when we sold Ronaldo we should have gone for Robben if possible. My opinion of Valencia like young, is it shows the problem of the club that we have them at full back. I don't know what our scouts get up to or what but we got sloppy and we need to move on. Some people might disagree, that's fine...but I disagree that we couldn't have done better over the last 5 years certainly. We've become stupid in the market. The time to spend big was when other clubs didn't have money...and when we were top..but the club were CHEAP...and have no one to blame but themselves. Now is the time, where you can bring a big name in sure but you need to scout properly and we've lost that ability to find 2/3 gems who just seem to fit in. It's easier now to keep players who have declined...rather then continue to evolve. So let's hope Dalot offers something fresh and new next season.

Mate, I back the manager 100%. But Jose tends to prefer men in the mid-late 20s, as these players tend to be more reliable and able to execute his orders on the pitch.
A good example is him leaving out Martial, so that Sanchez can play. Another is leaving out Shaw, so that Young can play. And lets not forget his efforts to buy 28 year old Ivan Perisic, for the LWB role.
All through his career, he has shown preference to the older man (over the youth player). I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with this, as I am all about the winning, for which we need experienced players, but given all this, I don't see how Dalot is going to get any meaningful game time. Only time will tell, I guess.

I don't think Jose has any such rules set in stone. He might generally prefer experienced guys, but I don't think it is a deal breaker. If a youngster is good enough, follows his instructions, he will play. Rashford getting so many games is a good example. Martial played 45 games this season. It is not alarmingly low.
Shaw is a pretty poor example in my opinion. Don't think he is really that good overall to make that position his own.

Does anyone here knows if he is fully recovered and able to start the pre season at 100% ?
