Mattis has apparently been usurped and been getting increasingly frustrated of late, so he may be a candidate to leave at some point.
Mattis leaving would be troubling. He's one of the sensible and competent leaders.

Putin must be thinking, 'it's a great day to be alive and in the possession of a video of a prostitue pissing into the mouth of The President of The United States'.

I don't think he has anything planned out or listens to his advisors, he just goes out there and speaks his mind on the spot.

I wonder at this point if it would take the joint chiefs of staff to tell the President the Pentagon is no longer on his side to make something happen to get the clown out.

The best news to come right now would likely be "the Department of Justice is holding a press conference while POTUS is in the air for a major development in the investigation of the Special Counsel"

Yay! A military coup in the most militarised nation on earth.
I'm not suggesting a coup - I'm not even suggesting they go public with it - but at least Mattis could approach the white house in private and say the Pentagon has seen enough and that serious change needs to be come so POTUS stops undermining its mission to defend the United States.

Uh, might be jaded, but I don’t see this doing any damage to him. He could kill half of his supporters and the other half would defend him over it.

That doesn't matter. His actions just need to galvanize enough dormant Dems and swing votes to boot out the Repubs during midterms and then again in 2020.

I get what you re trying to say and I'd agree it shouldn't happen - at that point we are not any better than your average banana republic tho it certainly feels we re there already. Unfortunately however Mattis at least strikes me as one of the few sane and truly qualified people in this administration who you d think can have quite a bit of cloud over members on Trump s side of the aisle.

If the Dems cannot capitalise on this, they should close down shop. This man has humiliated his country.

Has he actually gone too far this time?
I asked as much earlier and I’m reading through Twitter feeds right now and I’m beginning to believe it really might just be a watershed moment. There is tonnes of conservative talking heads and actual sitting GOP politicians who are doing everything from calling him out and calling it terrible act all the way through to actually washing their hands of him.

Democrats need to strike while the iron is hot and get legislation on the floor to protect Mueller.
