Seems crazy that people are blaming United for this. You can't simply "get it sorted" if it's the law, and if there's a waiver scheme available I'm sure the lawyers of a club like United have done everything to get it done in time. Either that, or United knew, still took its chances with the situation and thought it wouldn't be that big of a deal that Sanchez would miss the USA part of the preseason tour.

There's no way United didn't know and it only came up now imo.
It's so weird how eager our own fans seem to use anything slightly negative as "proof" of the club being incompetent. Such apathetic people on here.

If there's 1 player that takes care of his natural fitness, it's Sanchez.

I have no doubts he'll be fit and raring to go at the start of the season, IF he can't get on the tour i'm sure he'll have plenty of behind closed door friendlies to get him up to speed.

It isn't like the sentencing was a few years ago either. It was a week or two after Sanchez signed for us. The tour in the US was confirmed at the beginning of April so there would have been somewhere between 3-5 months to work on the visa issue. We have no idea how the immigration system would work in this case so the 3-5 months really might not have been enough, just sucks that he'll likely only play in the game against Bayern Munich before the season starts.
Getting a Visa for the U.S at the minute is a mess, could well be that 3-5 months wasn't enough. Know of people who had to wait over 6 months for theirs.

Maybe it has taken months. I don't know, in truth. Unless you work for either United of US immigration (?) then I'm not sure how you're so confident with this viewpoint. Or do you enjoy criticising the club in spite of probable reality?
I've handled similar cases for work purposes, you don't need months for this to be handled.

Is it so hard to believe that someone fecked up at our club when there was literally no news about Sanchez missing the US tour until people realised he wasn't with the rest of the team?

Maybe instead of being all outraged you would find it better to actually research what's going on.

Simon Stone said that Sanchez' Visa issues have taken longer than expected to resolve. That means we already expected this problem to come up and there has been a delay.

Disaster. Sanchez deal was a mistake in Jan with little time of team building, now the only chance of team building is gone. So how are we going to work out a Lukaku-less formation. It will be once again Sanchez plus the other 10 players.
He's not been involved in team building the entire time since January? Wild

It's funny because in the post about USA tour on instagram the official account has Sanchez in the picture.

Why have the club not sorted this out earlier? They must've known Sanchez had visa problems and he didn't go to the world cup either so it's very strange. It's not the first time either. Rojo had problems a few years ago as well and LVG got angry.

It’s not really a big issue. He’s played with this squad for 5 months.

RvP tore it up from day 1. Even Di Maria managed to have a big impact before he gave up. That’s what top players do. If by end of September Sanchez is still the same one we saw from last season it won’t be because of 4/5 preseason games.
This. Also most of the people he actually has to build attacking chemistry with won't be there too.

Before people realized it was a visa issue most everyone seemed happy enough that he was being given some extra rest after not having any for quite some time. Now that it's something they can try to blame on United it's all of a sudden a huge disaster and the club is a disgrace.

Looks like Woodward has lost all his passion for the club similar to Abramovič. Sell to buy policy in probably the most important summer for United and Mourinho, and now this farce.

It would have taken one phone call to the right places to sort this stuff out but Ed did just nothing. Jose must be livid about it. I guess trust between Edwood and Mourinho is totally broken now.
Well done.

This is a total car crash of a post/thread.

I am really excited to see what some of the kids can do. Of course, pre-season doesn't mean anything. A few years back we went unbeaten in pre-season against top teams and then lost to at home against Swansea on opening day. Still, we're Man Utd, you always want to see the academy producing youngsters that look like they might be able to do it in the first team. I am glad the World Cup has led to so many youngsters going to the States with Jose. Personally, I feel we have a bunch of squad players who offer no more than what we could get if one of these kids proves half-decent.

Honestly, I know its unlikely, imagine next year turned out like 1995/96 though: A whole bunch of youngsters establishing themselves as United reclaim the Premier League. It'd be a truly special season.

I know pre-season doesn't mean anything but I'd at least like to see enough from the kids to dream it could happen again.

That's a nice romantic idea but Jose is in charge, won't happen. Be lucky if we see one promoted on the bench for the match day squad. Lovely thought, god I miss Fergie.

I’m not ruling it out. Said a couple months ago that I was getting towards the point where no signing would inspire me with the confidence of us becoming the team we were again. We’ve signed some proper players and they have failed to impress. I see a Class of 92 style rebirth as one of the ways of us establishing a cohesive team with the right spirit and ability - players who have played with each other for a few years and all have a similar footballing identity, along with passion for the club.

I doubt it would happen, of course, but at the same time, maybe I’m a pessimist but I can’t confidently say that I think signing Sandro, Alderweireld and Bale would make us a better team (to watch, at least) than Liverpool or City anywhere else but on paper. After seeing Di Maria, Falcao, Mkhi, Bastian, Zlatan and Pogba come in in just 3 years, I can’t confidently believe any signings would do it.

Most of the first team arent onntournanyway duento the world cup. So not sure how it impacts team building anyway.
This. Also most of the people he actually has to build attacking chemistry with won't be there too.
First of all this is the opportunity to work on a Lukaku-less attack formation, so Lukaku absence is not an issue, but Martial + Sanchez + Herrera + Matic, (add Fred) are crucial. Add Mata as well so these are all the attacking chemistry that you will need.

Secondly, when you talk about players missing, only Pogba, Rashford, Lingard, Lukaku, Jones are missing and need real rest (probably not for Rashford or Jones), the rest of the squad will be returning soon, while Sanchez trains with his dogs.

Finally, Sanchez addition to the squad in Jan was a disaster, he was never integrated into the team. For those saying he has been team building for 5 months is non-sense, Sanchez has been playing on his own with the rest of the 10-men squad throughout this 5 months. Now is the opportunity to test and try various formation and movements to MAKE USE of SANCHEZ. Perhaps Mourinho will have to make use of FIFA on virtual team building.

Usually I would be super excited by now to see our friendlies but just don't feel it this time. I guess its due to the brilliant World Cup.

Matic joined United on 31st of July last year, just a few days before the season started yet he had a superb seaaon. Alexis has played with the team for about six months. I am pretty sure he can cope well even without a pre season with the squad if he can be well rested and fit.

I can't recall but did Pogba have a pre season with us when he first joined?

No. He joined us as the season started back then.

Exciting prospect indeed.
Strange but I have a good feeling about next season mainly because the transfers and pre season look underwhelming. Most fans were all excited about the last two seasons and the pundits tipped us as title favourites last season because of our purchases and the general buzz around the club thanks in part to Zlatan, Miki, Pogba and Jose's formidable 2nd season reputation. Well, we know how that went. Now we haven't bought big, we seem to be missing out on major transfer targets, no good pre season, bunch of kids being relied on, Alexis stuck at Carrington, World Cup heroes tired, many predicting Mourinho will crack as usual in this his third season, rivals like City and Liverpool looking strong, etc.

Against all odds and reasonable logic, maybe this is the season we get to take the PL title back.

Like the year where Carrick was our only main addition

True enough. I guess I like it when they're blaming Mourinho or having a go at your players though, whereas I just can't believe people really think the legal department of one of the biggest clubs/brands in the world is really that ignorant.

Not sure if this is the best thread to ask, but does anyone know how to watch the first preseason game v club america, in Australia? For some reason Australian MUTV isn’t showing the game live...

Aye, it's daft. It's not like the state of the US immigration system isn't well documented either.

What are the chances of Sanchez being apply to obtain a VISA and join up with the squad?
