Like Maguire and would take him without a doubt. He is better than anything we have.

Would take Toby ahead of him though. Before his injury he was easily the best CB in the league.

Isn't the point of scouting to exhaustively find defensive talents that fit your profile perfectly? Going for either Mina or Maguire reactively isn't scouting. It's watching the World Cup on tele and then going, "they were pretty handy, weren't they?" and throwing in a bid.

I'm not convinced by a strategy that has a post-WC strategy that it seemingly didn't have prior.

Maguire is actually class and would be perfect for a 3-5-2. I hope we sign him, there's no hurry in all likelihood since we appear to be the only club in for him. Could get done on deadline day even, this.
Don't think we will be playing that formation unless we face a team who likes to play that formation. The space behind wingbacks is easy to exploit for any good team with wide men who can stretch the play in that area and cause damage. So Surely Jose is not going to play they against top teams. For majority of the season i expect a 433.

To be honest I'd prefer Maguire now. Alderweireld is better next year for 25m, by then we'll know if his injury has kept him back as well. If he has a stormer, we'll surely be in top spot to sign him on the cheap, and we can finally get rid of Jones.

Think it's clear we are waiting for Rojo to be sold before pulling the trigger on one of our CB signings.

Really hope its Maguire.

They were bought as young players with Vidic and Rio ahead of them. A new CB every summer suggests that he doesn't know what he needs.
So you expected a 23yr old coming from the Portuguese league to be an immediate starter for Man Utd? Makes sense. The only thing it suggests is that Mourinho identified 2 young players who he thought have potential and bought them.

We don't even know if the club is actually trying to sign another CB right now. And even if we did sign someone, we don't know who they'd replace in the squad.

Would be nice, so maybe in 2 weeks we'll see.

Is Maguire staying now then?
he was never leaving, no one with any credible track record regarding our transfers ever said he was leaving, it was all press speculation mostly from your end, who then started to link us with ever CB under 40 as his replacement

I do suspect we are trying to get Alderweireld out of Spurs and have been using other names to do it. Doesn’t even matter if it drags out as he would have missed the first game regardless.

so do I and Maguire and his agent have used it to cash in, as they should do, by getting a better contract with us.

you're in the north west, that's what I meant
Hmm ok I'll let you off.

When I heard 65 million being quoted as a minimum for Maguire, I did have a feeling that you were either trying to put United off or try and push for a fee in the Van Dijk region. You don't really need to sell either do you?

Feck if we know how long we've been interested. Maybe we started tracking him before the WC but he was only willing to consider his future after?

I remember SAF saying we were interested in Hargreaves before the 2006 WC, so he hated it when he had a good tournament and was named England's best player.

no we don't we've made £2m on transfers this summer after selling the sulky Algerian retiree and have billionaire owners, if Maguire were to leave it would have taken a VVD fee as it would have had to be a head turning offer.

we're trying to offload strikers and CM's we need more CB's not less

If I were MacMcMaGuire i'd be pissed at this, being forced to stay at Leicester instead of joining the biggest club in the world because Leicester decided to play hardball.

No, they're really not. It always amazes me how you oppo fans refuse to admit we're the biggest club in the world.
You’re the biggest in England by far but you really underestimate the pull both Real and Barca have globally it’s bigger than united

Maguire hasn’t really made much effort on his part here and that’s what it would take to get a transfer like this over the line. Guess he doesn’t want it enough.
