I didn't know we did post match threads for preseason games so I'm going to paste what I've just said in the match thread like a proper wanker:

A pretty hideous watch all-told. I'm aware of the personnel factors at play, missing some of our big hitters and the few senior players we do have available having their bollocks run off all over the US isn't ideal, but I can't pretend I've seen much tonight to give me confidence for Friday.

I think Sanchez looked sharp in the first half and we defended well for long periods too, but we look well behind in our preparations, more so than any of our rivals that I've seen this preseason (City, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal). We'll be looking to scrape through our first few fixtures, let's hope we can but I'd take any United players you may have out of your fantasy team for now.

Also MUTV is an embarrassment, I don't see much of it but is it always this shoddy?

If 'results don't matter in pre-season' how come we play such ultra defensive, negative football in them?

Why is that when posters talk about problems with our team in pre-season games, that were also evident in competitive matches last season, they get insulted and told that 'it's just pre-season'? That response doesn't make any sense to long term issues that we have repeatedly failed to resolve.
Did Real score two own goals last match?

Football, bloody hell.
From the last 2 years you mean. The likelihood of a similar season to last is huge. We wont be better, if anything only worse. Most people will agree.
I know, and I agree to an extent about the style of play, let's at least wait til the season proper to be all doom and gloom or there's literally no point us bothering.

Its all well and good saying things along the lines of "its only pre-season" but we haven't shown any tactical changes to our attacking play throughout pre-season. The major problem last season was struggling to break teams down because we played slowly building our attacks. If pre-season is not a good time to make such tactical changes, then when is? Since Mourinho has not changed the way he plays, why should fans think the upcoming season will be any different?

Is there a level of football or type of fixture where it isn't completely unacceptable to deliberately give the ball back to the other team over and over?

Because that's what we were doing from every single goal kick and defensive set piece. Not even trying to play football and instead punting it long, despite having no one in the team capable of winning or flicking on the ball, and no one in a position to get to a second ball anyway. Just deliberately kicking the ball back to the other team.

Utterly pathetic. I know it's pre-season but someone explain to me how it being a friendly makes this less stupid? If anything it makes it worse since the only semi viable reason for this nonsense is because you're too scared to try and play...which makes no sense in a game where the result has no consequence.

guys can say "it's only preseason" all they want, but the fact is that we should be a lot closer to being ready than Bayern and we got dominated. One team's season starts on Friday, the other team's season starts in 19 days. Judging by today's game, you'd think it was the other way around.

we generated nothing, sat back all game and tried to defend a 0-1 loss. Pathetic.

It is beyond me how a supposedly professional football team only manages one shot in 90 minutes.

I swear to God, I think my local pub team would manage more. At least one shot on target!

Stopped watching around the 60th minute. Football is supposed to be something you enjoy watching, not worth getting you miserable.

At least you are optimistic about the season to come.
At least i am watching football outside United and can get my fix by watching other clubs play some decent stuff, not like some other poor souls who only watch our games and forgot what football should be like/was like in the good old Fergie days. We have to make an effort attacking wise, otherwise big trophies will not be coming to us. It hurts seeing us like this

They played against a much better professional football team.

No, they wouldn't.

The crazy thing is had United won 5-0 tonight, same people would be saying it’s only a preseason friendly and it’s nothing to rave about.

We need Matic to help out the defence. And we desperately need Lukaku who at least has half a chance of making something of the hoofs forward, which are our main attacking weapon.

No, they wouldn't.
I think they would, one effort in the sky and a loose long short rolling into the arms of the keeper.

You're completely missing the point. People are annoyed about the result are they?

Just look at the RM game thread and how inactive it was. People have an agenda and they want Jose out. Unfortunately for these people he is likely to be here until the end of the season.

I'm hoping we have a Mourinho masterclass season coming, then we look back at this horrible pre-season with fond memories.

This place will lose their sh!t if we dont win or only grind out a 1-0 win.
LOL you reckon Old Trafford isn't going to boo the fcuk out the place if they play like this and draw/lose?

I like this idea that negativity only exists on this forum. If anything, this is the only place you'll find people defending our manager and this shite football.

I think we played like this with Spurs in mind? I believe we will be way more attacking against Leicester etc but this performance was obviously super defensive as it will be against Spurs too, hopefully that day Counter-attacking will work though.
We’re at fecking home against Spurs. Mou’s going to be gone in months if he serves that shit up. It isn’t effective let alone attractive.

Seems like we are exercising and testing our defensive ability. I like it. We all know we will have to rely on it heavily when the season starts.

Hopefully, we will figure out by then and win some shits.

I'm trying to look for positives but can't find any within the concentrated crap that was that performance. It used to be fun watching us but its almost a chore now. We get the odd entertaining game but not often enough.

That was crap to watch. Honestly has to be our worst summers for years. Shite preseason, missing main players, combined with a crap market without any muppet signing to talk about.

Hopefully the season itself ends up being better than that miserable summer.

Honest question to pretty much anyone here.

Is the personnel insufficient to play the system Mourinho intends to play, or, is the system insufficient to maximise the present capabilities of the players we already have at our disposal?
