I'm sure the American public is excited to watch Leganes vs Alaves.

Just another step in football going to the dogs.

Bet United and City are gagging for this to get those yank fans hooked.

But US soccer has to agree to this, surely. I don't think it's that easy to persuade them and they'll certainly demand some kind of compensation from La Liga.

Was only a matter of time before European leagues adopted what the NFL and NBA do here in the States and play a few featured matches abroad. It's been hugely successful for the NFL in particular to play a couple of games per year in London. It's helped grow the game in the UK by a huge amount.

So you might have Man Utd vs Chelsea in Philadelphia one week, the both teams having to play back in uk the next against opposition that didn’t?

Or will all teams do it, so you could have Huddersfield vs Brighton in Chicago?

It’s an absurd idea. I would hope there would be absolute war should they try introduce it for the pl. there’s no shortage of money

My question is, what happens to the season ticket holders?
Nothing will happen to them, the season tickets in Spain will be advertised as say 16 games instead of 19, with 3 being played in the USA.

What a clusterfeck it's going to be delegating Spanish teams 'home' grounds and training bases though.

As everyone has said, EPL next or Serie A.

The way it works for the NFL teams going to London is those two teams have their bye week (week off) following the trip. So maybe these matches happen just before an international break?

Surely we're not that desperate? Can't see this happening with the current gravy train.

Surely it’ll just be the bigger clubs playing over there. Hell, they’ll probably start this off with Barca vs. Real Madrid, just to get it going.

Have they said then what would that mean anyway? 39th game? Some type of friendly, or team or two would gain points for League?
The idea was all 20 teams would play one additional game abroad and it would count for 3 points in the same way. So 39th game would mean 10 more games overall.

With most players at top clubs not even getting a break. It's an awful idea.

If Barca & Madrid were more willing to share the TV money, so that the lower teams could afford better players, thereby making the league more competitive & interesting to watch - this idea likely wouldn't have materialised.
But alas, here we are.

Ridiculous if any of the clubs would go along with playing a home advantage match in another country instead of in their own stadium for their own supporters.

Because its the match day revenue of the lower leagues that is being protected.

As for the topic, rip football.
I've always though this is a little silly. Most/All lower league fans I know are very passionate about the clubs they support. I couldn't imagine a single one that I know stopping going to the football because they're showing United at 3 on the tellybox.

La Liga needs to get that equality share TV's money before anything else i think.
Exactly. With the quality already available, this is the best way for them to develop and in the long secure bigger revenues. Playing abroad is gonna screw up their local and most loyal fans.

Think it's a good idea. Gives the chance for American fans to see La Liga games up close once a season.

So no one can give a convincing answer as to how they’ll decide which team is at home or away?

Honestly if I were one of the selected teams I would boycott. Just not go.

I have a right to 19 home games in my own stadium. Anything else is probably grounds for legal action.

American fans want competitive leagues not one sided presessions. La Liga has been dying for years because Barca/Madrid eat up all the revenue on their own which makes most of the league fairly unwatchable. Premier League is the most compelling becauase newly promoted clubs can go out and spend 100m whereas top 4 clubs in Spain struggle do get close to that number.

The end is nigh. Premier League will all over this.

As far as La Liga is concerned, it's nothing but awful. Only Real Madrid/Barcelona will sell out, I doubt they're doing this because demand for Leganés vs Levante is high. Also, what a slap in the face of season ticket holders and people who pay for memberships every season. Suspect the kick off time will be a pain also. Hate where Football is going.

Imagine watching Liverpool V Man Utd. At some obscure time of day, on Eleven Sport or Amazon Prime (because they're probably take all the right eventually anyway). Live from New York.

The article states that some games might get played this season, so supporters would have already paid for the season tickets.

Sad news. Only hope it would be games like Copa del Rey that end up being played in the US. If it's league, feck me, embarrassing.
