We have none, they are all not good enough. Smalling and Rojo for me, but that's shite too

Are we still playing this game? They're all con artists stealing a living. Every single one of them.

You can play whoever you want. With current stance we will concede sooner or later because you can't sit and defend for entire season.

Friendly against Bayern showed that even with solid 90 minutes of defending you will lose if you can't do no other thing than sit on your half like amoeba deep in the ocean.

There is no best Centre Back pairing for this club becuase they are all the same( Jones, Bailly, Smalling, Lindelof, Rojo....)

They alternate their moments of briiliance as well as stupidity over the course of a season. No stand outs among them.

None of them is fit to lace the boots of the Great centre backs we have watched in this club before now.

We do not have a best CB pairing, they are all inconsistent, injury prone and crumble anytime they are put under any pressure.

Hence why I was so desperate for us to sign Maguire. He may not be worth 60 million to most teams but to us he would have been. Same with Aldeweirld.

Smalling + 1 yet again. He may be poor on the ball but at least he can actually defend (95% of the time).

We should buy Shane Duffy and the lad that got brought on to replace Lewis Dunk.

That would sort us right out.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Smalling plus another. As it was last season. As it was the season before that. And the season before that. And the season before that.

Pretty much every season we try to give the other options the chance to stake a claim. And every season inevitably the other options fail and we go back to the only defender we have who is remotely reliable. And every season the experts on this forum then get up in arms and start claiming the other options are better and should be ahead of him.

Who his partner should be is another question. Jones was our second best last season, but they have a history of struggling together sometimes. Bailly and Lindelof both played well with him sometimes, but also both had some poor games. Right now I'd go for Lindelof and see how that partnership will go.

Smalling and Jones were a 7/10 partnership last season.

Last week Bailly and Lindelof were a 7/10 until the final few minutes when Bailly lost his concentration a few times although he did bail out Lindelof once too. 6.5/10 in the end.

And this week it was a 4-5/10 performance from them

Not sure why Bailly and Lindelof are starting over them tbh. Is it Mourinho's little message to the board?
Probably because they are his signings and he needs to show why they were signed and not sold if he wanted new CBs this summer. If they come good and look worth the money we spent on them I'm sure he'd have more faith from the board in signing new expensive defenders

Here, there, everywhere...
Smalling and Jones is the best, and they aren't very good.

Blind (14m), Rojo (16m+Nani's wages), Bailly(30m), Lindelof(30m) - 90m + Nani wages worth of absolute shit.

The best pairing would depend on what type of team we are playing against.
Against a physical hard working Brighton today, playing Smalling would have been better than Bailly. We have seen it before that Bailly struggles against high pressing teams, and starts to panic/makes stupid decisions. And he is difficult to play with.
Against teams parking the bus, Lindelof should always play as he is the only defender we have that can pass the ball, but struggles against strong/physical attackers.

So the pairing that would be the most stable (lowest chance of doing mistakes) would be Lindelof and Smalling.

Do posters finally understand that defending is a very important part of being a CB?

Didnt think so.

Smalling +1
100%
His rep has dropped to ridiculous level. There's always talk of errors, but both centre backs today made shocking errors.

Smalling has to start. Whoever is playing least crap next to him.

One of the most limited premier league players out there, and we just couldn't handle him. Dreadful to see.

I miss Blind :(

The only pair we've had in recent years that have complimented one another is Smalling and Blind. Out of our current CBs, one of Lindelof, Bailly or Rojo with one of Smalling or Jones.

Exactly - what an absolute ridiculous guy to sell. Absolutely sold Blind for no reason without even giving him a chance to play as a CB. Just not good enough purely because its not the Jose way the same way that rash Ford & martial are not strikers for him either.

Smalling +1 . But that's still pretty depressing. Six or seven years ago I always hoped that one of Smalling, Jones or Evans would go on to be a top class centre back for us but it just hasn't turned out that way. It's astonishing that they're still here sometimes :(
