Like Marouane but no way can we guarantee the playing time he wants, I'd let him walk sadly and wish him well. Replace with someone better in the same role but they'd have to be willing to rotate. Could be hard to find.

Noticed the tapping of the badge by Fellaini during his celebration.

Oh dear. Today was an example of how he can be an asset. However, we're surely not going to cave to his ridiculous wage demands are we?

We're Man Utd. Of course we are...

He is great plan B player. I like him. If he stay, I dont mind. Very useful player
Superb plan plan C to have who'd be happy with the game time if we pay the salaries required. I am glad that Jose has convinced him to stay despite the lack of minutes he has got this season and I feel has made most of that. 5 goals this season and most of them were crucial goals.
Fellaini is always a big problem in the box for every team. U can put him against barca or Madrid and they will also panic.

Best Plan B in the World, but sadly he is associated with Moyes
I might have higher standards but i can't imagine any plan thats only worked 4-5 times in 5 years could be considered great, superb or the best in the world.

Honestly don't know what some of you guys base this on, it sure as shit isn't his statistics.

Never been a great admirer of him, but admittedly he’s given us some good moments and big contributions. Would still prefer him to move on, but that’s the managers decision, but even if he ends up staying, he’ll probably be 4th to 5th choice, at best (assuming Jose has identified midfield as a crucial area - along with Carricks retirement meaning we’ll sign at least 1, if not 2 more midfielders).

Just hope we’re not going to offer him anything insane as in over £100,000 per week (not sure what his demands are).

I love the man... a great option to have on the bench. I couldn't be happier if he is here next season, and is used as a sub when nothing else works.

No way. He isnt a striker, we doesnt rely too much on his goals, in fact his goal tally all these years with us isnt impressive at all. Last night we played against second squad of a team that didnt have even a single away league point in 2018, it were the likes of Mavropalov, Chambers, Niles that made him seem more dangerous. Why anyone could forget how disappointed he was vs Sevilla when he missed all open chances to give us a lead? That's just one of many crucial games he cost us.

His job is in midfield and he was absolutely lost last night. Slow, clumsy, we was lucky not paying for many occasions he gave away our possession.

Fellaini isnt young anymore and already passed his peak a long time ago, he should be grateful to be a backup plan in such a big club like ours but his financial demand is just outrageous. We should never fall for this guy

Sell him please, the fact that he is our impact sub bothers me, we need to add some more quality.

spot on, we should have more options to change the game and inject new quality. He's done well at times and he's done nothing other times, our whole game plan changes to crossing and there's no other way or cohesion in passing, if we had a some top class attacking player we could change the gam too, not just hoofing it for 30 minutes, which can be easy to defend. The unexperienced Arsenal it was enough with a bit of luck but should be looking for other ways how to beat the team..

Let's be honest, yesterday's game was a write off, both the fans and players weren't overly bothered if Arsenal got a point. Definitely doesn't make much of a case for Fellaini' ''importance'', he's come up with a few goals like that before. We know what he can do, but I think the problem fans are still having is the long ball tactics deployed when we bring him on. It's simply not what United are all about as a club, for me. Why can't be bring on someone like Javier Hernandez instead?

Marouane Fellaini doesn't have to be the only way we can rescue a good result.

Can't believe how Jose has run after him begging him to stay and Martial is free to leave or at least it has the signs to that effect (no game time, snippets here and there for an under performing Sanchez), the man is a joke.
Well we saw how great the hoofing football to Fellaini is when we win but we too saw how awful it can be, e.g. Sevilla game. With Fellaini in the team our non-existent game plan turns into hoofball.

He needs to go. You can't doubt his tenacity and willingness to put in the hard work to get in the team, but he offers so little when he does come on that he's never going to be a good plan B for us. Plus, I feel like having someone like Fellaini around allows Mourinho to "reset" to his ultra pragmatic football when the chips are down, instead of forcing him to push his limits and take our style of play toward a more creative end-style.

I remember the times when our plan B was Ole Gunnar Solskjær. The Fellaini plan b has worked 10 times in 5 years, so I can't see how important can be for our squad.

Good point. Not to mention that the elite of Europe have been winning big trophies just fine without this so called plan B. The best teams develop the way they play through trusting it and practicing it game in game out. There might be small changes here and there but if you keep abandoning how you want to play every time you are in trouble, it might work once a year or so but it also means you never get fluid enough. Fellaini simply does not contribute at all in playing the way I assume we want to play. Not to mention it's not fair to him to be kept on for the role we seem to be using him for.

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini is close to signing a new deal, says manager Jose Mourinho.

The 30-year-old Belgium international's current contract expires in the summer and he has been linked with Besiktas.

"We are almost there but I can't celebrate because almost is not enough," said Mourinho.

"I want to see the white paper with the United crest and [executive vice-chairman] Ed Woodward and Marouane Fellaini's signatures."

Signed from Everton for £27.5m in September 2013, he has scored 19 goals in 154 appearances for the club.

His latest was an injury-time winner in the 2-1 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford that secured a top-four finish and Champions League football next season for the Red Devils.

Mourinho believes that Fellaini's reaction to his goal shows that, despite a reported meeting with Turkish side Besiktas earlier this year, Fellaini will be part of that campaign.

"I think a player that grabs the crest after scoring is telling clearly that he wants to stay," he added.

"I want him to stay, the club wants him to stay, I think he will stay.

"We are trying to think about our team, little touches, little replacements - a Michael Carrick replacement, this kind of situation - but until now I didn't lose one second thinking about a Marouane replacement."

Fellaini, who rejected a contract offer from United in September, was guarded when asked about his future.

"I still have a contract and let's see what happens at the end of this season," he said.

Fellaini was not the problem vs Sevilla at all, that's just shite. We were in control of the game when he came off, on course to hit them in the final 15 minutes, where statistically they're at their absolute worst.

It's important to note that when he comes on, we're much more solid as a team He's an impact player in both boxes. Bring him on in the final 15 minutes when defending a lead, you aren't conceding from a corner Bring him on chasing a goal, he will occupy 2-3 defenders and open up space for the rest of the team.

This is because he brings fear to opposition inside the box and he can help defending here and there. But, Fellaini will never be our Plan A player, being all are fit and available. So the same argument (to Fellaini) as Hernandez, want to earn good wage for 15min a week, or playing week in week out else where.

Jose’s obsession with Fellaini really makes me sick
This is ridiculous. He is the manager. And Fellaini is his player. Playing one of his squad and publicly stating his desire for the player to extend his contract is obsession?

I think some of the fans distraught reaction is more qualifiably obsession.

Those were the days, then Hernandez after that. United under Ferguson didn't really have a plan B we just upped the tempo, threw on an extra attacker or two and went for it and bombarded teams. It was very effective, unlike bringing a tall player on and changing the way we play and focusing everything on lumping the ball up to Fellaini. Which has been way more miss than hit over the last 5 years.

I remember we were 2-0 down at West Ham in 2011. Fergie threw Hernandez and Berbatov on, put Giggs and Valencia to fullback and just went for it and we ended up battering them 4-2. We were in a similar situation at Palace this year 2-0 down and Jose took the fullbacks off, threw attackers on and put Lingard to right back. And we ended up winning, thats how you turn a game around. Had Fellaini been on the bench that night i'm not so sure it would have played out the same way.

I don't rate him as a player however I can see why Mou wants him here. In a football which is shifting to pass to feet football there's not many defenders around who can swiftly adapt to some relic like him whose good in air and nothing else at a moment's notice.

Most other teams can handle normal players. They cannot handle Fellaini. Yes they know what is coming but still cant handle him. Look at the Europa Final. He murdered Ajax. That is why he is important to all the managers. LVG like him, Jose like him and probably the next manager would do if Jose leaves now. He is another option that no other teams have right now. Not only he is tall but he is very awkward to play against. He is also not that lacking in skills. He is the best option we have right now as a Plan B. Keep him till we get better players in other positions so that when we do not need a Plan B, then move him on. For sure we would not have won the Europa Final without him.

He is Mou's super sub. Still think he should be moved on if we are to improve.
He's a useful player to have in our squad,I think that it's always better to have a plan B in the league, especially because we aren't going to have a foolproof plan A(like City)....

Yesterday’s winner against an Arsenal team with one eye on Thursday night doesn’t warrant a fat new contract or undo how poor he’s been for the most part since signing for us, is he disruptive and a nuisance to play against ? Yes but does he actually improve us when he’s on the pitch in comparison to any of our other midfielders ? It’s a firm NO.

We’re constantly talking and wishing for an upgrade on Herrera to play alongside Pogba and Matic and Herrera is much better than Fellaini so at best Fellaini would be FIFTH choice with McTominay, Fosu-Mensah and Pereira also around and outside of being someone to lump the ball up too when we’re chasing a goal Fellaini offers us nothing and certainly not enough to justify £150K+ a week.

He definitely wasn't poor for most part of his time here, otherwise he wouldn't have endured 2 managerial changes. He was pretty poor in Moyes season but since LVG came and he has been helpful various times and scored several vital goals.

Don't get me wrong it's not like I'm fond of him or anything. Won't care much if he leaves but let's give him credit for what he did here based on his qualities. Fellaini was far, far more useful to us than the likes of Di Maria, Falcao, Bastian, Depay and all those the fans were drooling over when they signed, ended up doing feck all while Fellaini stayed and helped the team several times.

So it seems Redknapp was right when he suggested United fans wouldn't be happy we brought on Fellaini instead of Mata (prior to Fella scoring lol).

Yeah, so again, feck you Redknapp.

You know why this is a great Plan B - no-one doing the passing, because no need to, just whip the ball into the box and we have 3 tall players on every position with 2 slick players picking up loose ball. Moyes' dream tactics, except he only had half the players he need - and Rooney doing the header!

Such an important player, especially in games such as the ones against Burnley and today, where the opposition like to play direct.

Shows why most of us know feck all about judging players. The hypocrisy on here is laughable at times but we all know the vultures will soon be circling the next time he has a bad game.

It's comical really, we rely on a player with no recognisable footballing ability to get us by the likes of Watford.
