Huffed and puffed but failed to take Valencia down.

Distinct lack of quality from the team. Only Rashford, Pogba and Shaw showed any quality.
Rashford? His corners were dreadful. Bar that dribble and shot in the first half, and that freekick that hit the post, he did little of any quality.

Still miles better than what Alexis Sanchez served up though.

It's annoying how Fellaini lasted 90 minutes.

Valencia are as poor in the final 3rd as we are which saved us some blushes as we offered very little, couple of snapshots from Rashford in the first half, decent freekick from him in the second, and Lukaku worked the keeper once with the only thing he did right all night.

I see some saying there was effort tonight, sure in terms of running around, but you can see the morale and confidence is low with the amount of time it takes us to move the ball from back to frony as all of our players bar Pogba and Rashford looked afraid to try anything, and in the final 3rd our movement is pathetic, there are no patterns of attack there at all, you don't even need to look at the elite clubs for that, just watch Dormtund or Lyon one weekend to see you don't need £200M worth of forwards to have a good attack if it's well coached.

A whole bunch of meh. We just lack genuine quality and a game changer in the final third.

I think we'll maybe get a point off Juventus and beat Michael Jackson's favorite team but we'll go to Valencia needing a point which will be hard. We probably aren't made of the right stuff mentally to avoid a loss in what would be a crazy atmosphere unless De Gea is in god mode and we get a moment of magic from someone like Pogba or Rashford.

Playing Matic and Fellaini together is unbelievable. They're too static and absolutely no energy or pace. Valencia has forgotten to play football.

How are you, as a United manager, going to play Fellaini and Matic in a midfield two, at home in a CL group stage?

We could have an 8 year old manager with more balls.
We didn’t do that. Did you watch the game?

Lukaku was horrendous and how he still remains on the pitch is beyond me. Do people think he is told to be static and act as a target man or is he just a lazy player. Sanchez was awful again, they all were to be honest. Rashford probably had a lot of positive a feedback but end product was bad as usual. Pogba just huffs and puffs. The only positive I can take is this is one step closer to sacking Jose.

I think we're likely headed into the Europa League. Back-to-back defeats coming up vs Juve.
Valencia lost at home to Juventus so provided results go as expected (losing twice to Juve, Valencia losing away to Juve both beating Young Boys) we'd enter that game needing a draw and relying on goal difference. If we sneak a draw with Juventus a draw would see us through.

Whenever Fellaini gets sent up front with. 25mins to go instead of breaking down the defence with players like Mata or Fred you know its bad times! We was never going to score unless Rashford made something out of nothing! Several times Pogba was shouting at Lukaku for his poor CF play and his lack of movement.

We can hope to get a draw at home to Juventus at best and they’re overwhelming favourites to thump us in Turin. Meaning Valenica away and Young boys at home need to be matches we win in on order to qualify.

Rashford should be removed from corner kick duties, I think every cross ended up straight to their goalkeeper.

A lot of people on here and sayingjn the BT studio saying Rashford was the only one showing any quality but since when does effort equal quality?

He tried hard to make things happen which is more than can be said for some of his teammates, but he kept running into people rather than around or through them. His corners were shocking, even by our usual standards and he lost the ball as much if not more than anyone else.

It speaks volumes that he was still probably out best player. I don't think I've ever been less engaged during a United game.

This isn't really football we're watching.

We can't defend with composure, can't string passes together, can't attack fluidly, can't hold onto the ball individually.

This isn't a football team,Image not sure what I'm supposed to be watching.

Another 90mins of dogshit against a team currently outside the top 10 in Spain.

I'm skipping the Newcastle game, old mans having a bypass. Will spend the weekend with him in hospital. Done with this facade for the foreseeable.

All the fuss we make about getting into the CL. For that?

Nope.

Another 90 minutes of my life wasted, and I'm done with this. Refusing to watch us again until Mourinho's gone.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
  • Defenders can only pass across the line or (if feeling especially daring) to Matic
  • Valencia (Tony) inside pass/shuffling of the feet! It's like Groundhog Day
  • The entire team pass to feet all the time, no one passes in front of a player to run on to
  • Team are static (though Lukaku takes it to a new level) meaning easy to be man marked/harder for player passing
  • No creativity
  • No dribbles, to pass a man (which creates space or drags another opponent out of position)
Compare that to the fluidity of the Valencia team, the comfort on the ball (even defenders), the running off the ball, the pace to move the ball from defence to attack, ...

Chalk and cheese unfortunately and they're not even a top team? .... thought they fully deserved draw.

Thought Sanchez tried, just didn't come off for him. Couple of others had moments, nothing great. Smalling looked "ok". Shaw steady.

Meh.

Why wasn't Pereira even on the bench? The midfield replacement was McTominay. Ridiculous.

Why bother hiring managers and coaches then, we can buy a bunch of players and let them get on with it.
Good players are far more important than tactics and shape.

Players win and lose football matches.

The shape of the team doesn't stop people from controlling the ball.

I always thought the whole "I fell asleep watching the match" was a load of aul bollox but I fell asleep during the first half and woke up around the 70th min in a jolt of panic. All for nothing. We're garbage.

Aren't Valencia a bit crap in la liga? Flippin eck what next, it was tumescent, dull, pedestrian and slow. It was almost like a testimonial.
Valencia made us look ordinary but on the flipside a clean sheet and no defeat.

Second half was better and we could have won it, if someone could finish. We have so many tall players it's a pity we can't find a decent corner taker.

Valencia were horrible. First time in a while that haven’t played better football than us.
I think they're shite but they still played better football than us. They have something that we don't have, a game plan. And they can pass the ball.

Zero risk, zero reward. This team looked like it was set up to stifle Valencia, and nick a goal from a set piece, which we might have done if we could deliver set pieces.

How are we supposed to move forward if every game is spent trying to nullify our opponent instead of trying to actively win the match? Hard to see where we go from here atm
Exactly! But this has been Mourinho's standard strategy all the time he has been here i.e. nullify the opposition and nick a goal on the break. Its cowardly tactics and is reflected in cowardly performances.

This team would've demolished Valencia, even without a manager:

De Gea
Dalot Bailly Lindelöf Shaw
Pereira
Fred Pogba
Sanchez Rashford Martial
We really wouldn’t. Pereira isn’t a DM, you need to protect the two CB. That is our main problem at the moment.

Also Bailly and Lindelöf is probably our worse CB pairing.

This has to be the worst CL match I've ever seen with United. No pace at all, why not use the last two subs late on in order to try something. Just anything. Better that than the status quo. The ref was awful though. Haven't had much luck with those this season.
