I watched the original run on TV and rewatched the whole series in about 2010. I've seen episodes on and off on the likes of Sky Atlantic or whatever in the mean time. But I've recently just sat down to watch it again in its entirety. I'm about halfway through season 6.

I loved it in its original run and loved it again when I watched it around 2010. I'd have considered it the best TV show ever made. I watched the Wire since and thought it was brilliant and a definite rival for my favourite series. However, watching the Sopranos again, it can't be topped for me. It's just so good.

The humour as well as the darkness it shows at times are incredible. It's so well done.

Despite watching it twice before in its entirety, I found myself surprised at a few things. Like, how big a part Artie Bucco plays. Maybe he's a more forgettable character than some of the others, but I just never remembered him being such a big character. Other things I had forgotten that genuinely surprised me were Chris getting shot and how it was Silvio who killed Ade, along with how cold that murder was.

Anyway, I love it. Best TV show ever, for me.

I've been watching some youtube clips of scenes now and then and the worst part of the whole series to me was Chris and Paulie killing the waiter in the parking lot while arguing about who's going to pay the bill. You just had to take a moment and wish all these sick fecks would roast in hell for that kind of shit.

I think that is part of the point though. We do root for them mainly as the main characters but it would be irresponsible not to remind the audience that they are bloodthirsty criminals in the end.

Yeah, if there weren't scenes like the killing of the waiter, or Paulie robbing/killing that old lady, Christopher beating/choking Adriana or Tony's constant and reflexive "who do you think I am?" "I swear on my children" it would be shallow.

That scene when Paulie looks at Vito and Bobby and says "wow it's like an ad for a weight loss center: before and way before".

I only recently found out Bobby wore a fat suit for the role.
I felt so duped.

Just finished watching this for the first time. Wow...I really need closure
I don't know what to think about that ending, it seems as if it doesn't have a definite one but one of two choices, either he died there and then or he was put away for that Gun charge.
I will watch this again soon.

After watching it a couple of times I am pretty sure what the ending meant now.

I actually have no problem with ambiguous endings, it leaves my mind open for imagination. With that being said, I think he got whacked.

My take away was that this was just a 'welcome to Tony's world' moment. This intense suspension and paranoia is 2 minutes at the end of a series for us, but this every moment of his life. Did something happen? No idea, I don't think that was the point.

Problem is I don't see why he would get whacked at that point and why would the people doing it would risk killing him in front of his family where 100 things can go wrong. Afterall, families don't get touched.

I guess we'll never know, fantastic show eitherway and I'm definitely going to watch it again.

The first time i finished Sopranos, and my heart was pumping like crazy all those final minutes, as soon as the picture goes to black, i felt so fecking relieved (Tony didn't died right there).

I concluded that Tony will live the rest of his days in absolute paranoia, and soon enough, gonna get whacked or spend the rest of his days in prison.

Put this in another thread but suppose this would be the better one.... I’ve never watched The Sopranos but always wanted too. I know I could find it online somewhere to download but I’m a collector/horder of DVDs/blu rays. Is it worth paying the £50 for the collection or should I watch it elsewhere first?

Simply yes. One of, if not, the best tv show ever.

Considering starting this soon, never seen it before. Is it one of them that gets better the further in you get or does it peak and then decline towards the end?

I think seasons 2-5 maintain a consistently high quality. 1 is a great intro, while 6, which is a long one in two parts, is a bit all over the place but finishes very strongly.

There is a change in atmosphere and mood going into season 3 - things start getting a lot darker than the first two seasons.

Bought it. Will be arriving tomorrow. Looking forward to watching it.
Great decision. I had the Blu Ray box set too for a black Friday steal but lent it to a mate and never got it back..

Imo it maintains a level of quality throughout so much that in my eyes I didn't even notice much difference from one season to the next. It flowed like a soap opera, perhaps the only thing easily noticeable is the main antagonist is different in each season, but even then it's not that cut and dry. It probably helps that the seasons are so long that it's harder to compare them crudely.

It's one of the best shows TV has ever seen, and that's not exaggerating. It's fantastic throughout.

I only got a bit tired by all the shrink & goomar scenes. Other than that, the show is top notch.

He was killed at the restaurant no doubt about that . They made a point ff sayin when you whacked you won't know about it everything will just turn to black earlier in the show

Yes doubt about that. Even David Chase agrees with me.

Either he died or not, you choose. Both are possible. For me it made more sense that he didn't died right there, and that Chase was simply showing us the paranoia from Tony's everyday life, where any random guy, at any random place, could be an assassin going after you.

The one episode that I remember not liking so much was the dream episode. Though I think I’d prolly feel differently if I saw it again.

The only bad episode was the Colombus Day episode (Christopher) in season 4. Actually the one where Tony suddenly has a gambling addiction (Chasing It) in the last season wasn’t great either. But other than that, it’s all top notch. Top 5 episodes (I won’t describe as there are newcomers on this thread):

5. Whoever Did This (season 4)
4. College (season 1)
3. I Dream of Jeannie Cusanano (season 1)
2. Pine Barrens (season 3)
1. Long Term Parking (season 5)

Best music moment: Tiny Tears by Tindersticks during Isabella (season 1)

Moment that never fails to choke me up: Where’s Johnny (season 5) - Tony to Uncle Junior: “don’t you love me?”

James Gandolfini is a force of nature throughout - best acting I’ve ever seen.

That was my favourite episode. Actually there was about 5 or 6 dream episodes so maybe not. The Steve Buscemi episode i loved. Loved that season.

Loving it so far. About 8 episodes into the first season. I can’t be the only one that finds the shrink a little bit sexy.... right?
