At the end of this season.

What an astonishingly good player.

Technically he is the best centre forward I have seen at United.

Let the YouTube videos commence...

Underrated as far as PL forwards are concerned. Injuries marred people’s views for too long, but when fit, he was the best.

God, how i wish we had 2013 RVP in our team at the moment. Scoring goals out of nothing.

Ah, I’m getting old :( Wonderful player, one of the most technically gifted players to play in the Prem. His volley at Charlton is in my top 5 ever for sure

An incredible footballer. His contribution in Fergies last season can't be downplayed. Almost every goal he scored that season was one to to bring us back into a game from a losing position or what turned out to be a winner.

Worth every penny, even if he had never played a single game for us after that season.

Thank you for 12/13. I wish he could've won more with us, and played longer under Sir Alex which was a big reason as to why he joined in the first place.

Watched a video of all his goals recently and it reminded just how good he was technically. Fantastic player to watch, probably the best shooting technique I've seen at United. You might argue RVN was a better finisher, but RVP made it look better somehow. Shame he had injury problems most of his career because he was a fantastic player when at the top of his game. (Actually maybe it's a good thing he wasn't as it would have been to Arsenal's benefit :nervous:)

yup, in a nutshell.

Just 5 years ago we had him at his peak. Now we have Lukaku...

What a player he was, he had his injury problems but he should have left Arsenal much sooner and won a lot more than he did.

Scorer of two of the best goals ive ever seen:

Lots of talk of injuries in the thread so far which is fair but he has still clocked up a hell of a lot of games.

What a player he was, he wasn't pacey but his movement was superb. Technically he was brilliant too.

The goal he scored against West Ham was just brilliant.

Shame we didn't get the see more of him at this best. I am sure he would have given us three top notch seasons if Sir Alex remained at the club. He checked out the moment Sir Alex called it quits. I guess he joined us because him and his retirement hit him hard. Still, I am glad we got to see him in action in the 2012/13 season. He was sublime. What I would to give right now to have a striker with his touch & hold-up play in our team. In addition to that, his corner delivery was exquisite that season. Don't remember another season where our defenders scored so many goals from corners.

The last masterstroke by SAF..and boy did it pay off. SAF knew exactly what to do with him and we all got rewards.

To think we went from Van Persie to Lukaku - ridiculous downgrade technically when you think about it.

Wow, I was just thinking of him lately, and wondering if he'd make a good attacking coach.
One of the most technically gifted Forwards (n°9) to play the game.
I also believe he is among a few foreign players to have worn our shirt and hold us in great respect. (Along with Saha and Evra).

how was he underrated? He's widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation and one of the best strikers in the world at his peak.

I remember seeing RVP pictured on the Mirror's Fantasy Football page when he was first signed as understudy to Henry. The caption was something like 'Rockin' Robin - Available for £5m' and I thought it sounded a waste as he wasn't likely to play ahead of Reyes :wenger:.

A fine player, one I always admired once he'd established himself at Arsenal and it was the stuff of dreams to sign him from them then have him power us to the league. Probably our last great signing (feck those who say he was too short-term for the money, if you have a season like that it's worth it ), an unfortunate casualty of Fergie leaving and sorely sorely missed given the lack of reliable quality we have now.

Good luck RVP and thanks.

It often was though. The window in which he was good for during that season seemed to get smaller and smaller the more it was talked about. His 2nd half of the season seemed to continually get written off. and too much was made of his goal drought, despite playing very well and getting a number of assists during the period he wasn't scoring goals (5 league games IIRC).

Transfermarkt says he got 15 assists that season too, on top of his 30 goals. A 5 game goal drought seems like nothing when a player is putting up those kinds of numbers, but many still moaned.

Great player to watch, and we got the last top quality season out of him. £24 million for that one season was money well spent.

He was brilliant during our last title.

No United fan will ever forget it. He was sensational.

That goal vs Villa will always be 1 of my favorites and his winner vs City at the Etihad was the loudest I've ever celebrated a goal.

The last stroke of genius from SAF to clinch the title.

Its actually a bit depressing to watch his highlight vids right now seeing how lacking we are in that department at the moment.

Don't forget he also chose us over city that summer and they apparently offered him double the wages. It's a real shame we saw him at his absolute best for only 1 season. To be honest for him personally it was also a shame his career was plagued with injuries. I don't think we would have won that 20th title if it weren't for him so for that we forever owe him one. Also thinking about that season he had and especially that moment where he scored that penalty against stoke and then ran across half the pitch to give Sir Alex a big hug. It really hurts to accept how far we have fallen in such a short time span.

Lukaku actually scores at a faster rate per game. For clubs and for country.
Yeah but that just goes to show how silly it is just to view football through statistics.

Stats aside, if we had 2013 RVP right now instead of Lukaku, we would be in a way better position. But i hope Lukaku improves his form & turn our season around.

Lukaku could get better and might probably be held at a higher regard than RVP at the end of his career. RVP at 25 had nothing relevant over the 25 year old Lukaku.
