What would be an acceptable offer for Pogba?

Considering you’ll most likely change managers within the next seven months, you’d be idiots to sell him.

Because while I don’t think he’s been as good as this forum likes to suggest, I do think there’s a good chance he could be one of the best in the world under another manager.

Same money offer to recover the investment. Let's face it: Pogba is one step to being considered damaged goods.
If at least he had fighting spirit when facing adversions...

Then you think he's as good as the best United supporters argue he is, and better than many argue that he is. Nobody argues that he is currently one of the best midfielders in the world, on a consistent basis - so not quite sure about your argument.

Most people would consider that when he gets his head together with his will to win Pogba can be unplayable. The problem is no one, even I suspect Paul himself, knows how and when this will happen; he is therefore some what flawed in terms of his reliability.

When Pogba is part of a team with other players capable of stepping up to the plate when he doesn't, he represents something like his real value, when he is the main playmaker his flaws are the real part and it reduces his value.

We probably paid over the odds for Paul and now his flaws are revealed, we will be fortunate to get our money back. We probably need to look for a swap deal, rather than cash.

This might be sacrilegious to some but since the rumours are in full flow, it might be interesting to know if there are offers some would find acceptable?

Would people take Dybala+Sandro? Dembele+50m? 150m?

My own opinion is a bit contradictory. On the one hand I don't think he's proved that he's world class, but he's obviously got immense talent. His mentality could hinder him from realising his potential but then again he's super marketable and a household name already. Given the way the market has gone and his length of contract, in terms of numbers I think we should get double what we paid. I'd be tempted by Sandro+Dybala though.

If we could make it part of a deal that Raiola gets f all, then that would certainly sweeten the deal.
Your reference to whether he is world class is interesting given that since your post, he's just been voted 15th best player in the world in the ballon d'or vote

Ballon d'or is theoretically based on performance not talent. Do United fans think his performances in the last 12 months have got him anywhere close to being one of the 20 best players in the world ? Assuming not, do United fans think there is a good chance he will end up, if he stays at United, performing at top 20 player level ?

I assume his recent ranking only makes the ability to sell him for top dollar even more likely.

"When he is the main playmaker".

Well, first of all, it seems that he's kind of the only playmaker we have.

Second of all, he's a "playmaker" in a team that plays absolute dogshi7 football since Jose joined, I don't think we can 100% judge any player in our current team/club state.

I know I'm kind of defending him, but I think we seriously don't have a clue what he can do unless we change the manager and string some results together.

We overpaid. He’s not that good. He’s not a neymar or messi or ronaldo. Not that bracket of player.
You won't buy Neymar or Messi for that money, just Dembele and Coutinho. Ronaldo aside as he's old and apparently had an agreement with Perez.

Rashford is better than Dybala and well how do we fix this gapping whole in midfield after he leaves?
Rashford is not better

Dybala is an AM it wouldnt be that different to playing with Pogba who by now we know isnt going to do focus on much defending in a United shirt. It would be like when we play with Mata in the hole with 2 deep CMs - only now we can have 2 deep CMs who actually take some responsibility to defend. Fred and Ander would be fine.

He isn't going anywhere. Jose defenders just have this notion that Jose leaving before Pogba would mean Pogba winning whatever petty war they have going. Other unconvinced fans would rather see him under a new manager before anything

I would like to keep Pogba and see how a new manager gets him playing, or if Jose goes soon see if McKenna and Carrick can motivate him

I’m sure I’ve read more than a few times that he is one of the best, though in the last month or so that trend seems to be fading.

Either way, can’t see Woodward selling him, and rightfully so.

the fact its saying he's the 15th best player in the world shows how much of a farce the ballon d'or is it would be hard to argue that hes even in the top 20 players in the premiership. quite simply hes never had a consistent run of more then 5/6 games at a time since hes been here, even still after 2 1/2 years we have no idea what his best position is.

What are you basing these prices on? We overpaid because of his potential ceiling. He's barely improved since, if at all, and is 3 years older. Even after the massive inflation, I'd not pay more than we did for him, as a DoF of another club. Even that would be a risk, I feel.

Dybala's absolutely excellent, only in his wildest dreams is Rashford better than him.

Can you explain how Rashford is better than Dybala? One is a teenager who hasn't managed to nail down a starting position while the other has been a superstar at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Why on earth should anyone getting £290,000 per week need to be motivated ?

Just get rid of him.

It doesn't work like that. It's not like every player has a figure where once they're paid they're just like "Oh, now I'm motivated."

I'd say the motivation of all players is dwindling on a weekly basis considering the current environment at the club. It happens at every club.

Odd one as he's getting to the prime stages of his career but you'd likely value him more after his Juventus career rather than his United one due to performances for the club. I think a similar price would be fair considering those variables and the fact that he is/can be world class with the right setup and manager.

We are incredibly rich, as big a club as any and have the player on a long term deal. I wouldn't even look at an offer lower than the current world record deal.
I get what you are saying.
The problem is that we have a player who is clearly unhappy and as the current manager states, "Pogba is a virus". Jose needs to go, but in my mind, Pogba does, too.
When the new manager arrives in the Summer, we can't afford to have "powerful" players, who can turn the dressing room against the manager, who in turn will down tools.
Pogba's performance in the last match was dreadful and he has has a habit of blowing hot and cold. If we are to build a new team to get top 4 and eventually win the title, we shall need to remove the players who encourage mutiny.

If you meant to write 'gaping hole' in our midfield then I think that you're alluding to our own Bermuda Triangle where our attacks repeatedly break down as we lose the ball for no reason other than some arrogant show-boating dandy can't be arsed?

IMO you'll find that the problem will dissapear as soon as Pogba and all his 'potential' leaves and is replaced by a proper midfielder who can press, tackle, pass, defend and move the ball quickly.
We'd get a top class midfielder for circa £60m and we'd hopefully get say £50M for Pogba (we seriously overpaid and he's gone downhill since we've had him) so that's only £10M outlay and we'd save that in wages over a couple of years.

Pogba is not a player who can carry a team on his own. However the guy has all the qualities of succeeding if we can have a few more world class players in our team. If we want to improve we need better players to come in and remove the dead wood from the squad rather than a player who clearly is miles ahead of any other.

Generally speaking, the best players in the World, have a knack of always being motivated, no matter how negative their surroundings are. It is exactly this, which makes them the best players in the World.
So, to say that Pogba needs motivation - given his World class salary, he should not require any motivation. He should be putting in fantastic performances for us, every week and on the side, if he wants to call out the manager, then so be it. But to put in the dreadful/lazy performances - that's unacceptable - and the player must take most of the blame for this (Jose sharing a small part of the blame).

But why are you assuming he'll start a mutiny against any manager that comes here?

He never had any issues with any manager prior to working with Mourinho, and we know Mourinho has a tendency to alienate his own players against him. Pogba was doing just fine under Allegri, Conte, Deschamps heck even with SAF.

To make it even more ironic it was Pogba who's good performances had enabled Mourinho not to get the sack around Newcastle game.

We'd be idiots if we sell him before seeing what he's like under another manager.

Actually, we've seen what he's like under Conte and Deschamps, and he wasn't half bad was he?

Give the new manager a year with the current squad (plus additions) and let's see where we stand after that.

But why aren't McKenna and or Carrick doing it now.

An earlier post mentioned damaged goods.
If he has done it once how do we know he won't repeat it as soon as things get tough.

See Lukaku and Sanchez. They have contract, and they can chill out as much as they want, and there's nothing the club can do.

Theory and praxis though. He's got the talent to be in the top 10, or higher, but his attitude prevents him from achieving that. I suspect the same will apply no matter where he'll go, though of course, playing in a much better team can hide his shortcomings better. At this time, re-reading that post you quoted, I think it would be quite an unrealistic deal to get both of those players for him. Pogba's only defense is that he hates the manager. And even then it's completely unprofessional to show such a lack of effort, of care.

I think hes a bit dumb tbh. Lots of skill and a great passing range, just dumb.
