Who should the caretaker manager be?

I'd argue that that was 4 years ago. I think Solksjaer has matured and developed a bit since then. I don't know that for a fact, but he was a very young manager back then.

That job came too soon for him. Cardiff was a sinking ship when taking over in January.
One other point is that Solskjær had only two connection to the transfer marked, his own agent Jim Solbakken and Manchester United. So all the incoming transfers where from Jim Solbakken and he’s not exactly Mendez etc. This was his downfall in Cardiff.

As a caretaker manager for us he wouldn’t have that problem. And if he stays permanently then we really need a DoF or else this would quickly become Solbakken United. Maybe time to check his client rooster? :)

Why are United only appointing an interim manager. Rare that I agree with Robbie Savage but he is right to criticise this. United should have had a successor lined up to replace Jose before pulling the trigger. As for Paul Ince well he truly is an idiot. He thinks Mark Hughes would be a good interim manager. Would Bryan Robson be a good shout as interim? Loves the club, club legend and would be respected by players.
What if your ideal manager is at another club, what if your ideal manager has said he's only moving at the end of the season...leave Mourinho there while he continues to plunge the club into the abyss?
Worked well for Chelsea with Conte, can't see why we can't do it. Liverpool was lucky Klopp was jobless when they decided to sack Rodgers. If he wasn't should they have let him continue?

How exactly can it go wrong? He’s going to be coming in with no real expectations upon him apart from to lift the mood of the players/fans while we start the rebuilding process.
We can’t finish in the bottom half of the table, for example.

Also, if the football doesn’t pick up, do we blame Ole? Do we turn on a club great?

I think an important asset for Ole is how well his team performed in the Europa league. Remember: he hasn't just done well in Norway - he got Molde to first place in their Europa league group in 2016, which included Ajax, Celtic and Fenebache and this year they only got knocked out by the odd goal to Zenit St. Petesburg, who have thrashed many top teams over the years. I look forward to seeing what he can do.

Is Solskjaer a good appointment as a manager? I last saw him managing Cardiff which got relegated
Permantly probs not, but as interim I dont see why not. He would definetly bring some hope and hype to the club, specially if we start winning matches under him.

If we’re not in the champions league and we don’t get relegated our position in the table is now irrelevant, our season has pretty much been written off.

How can the football get worse?

Whilst I agree I think he’s merely being brought in to keep us at least competitive for the rest of the season

Based on what exactly?
Based on how he has done with Molde and how he manage. He has done really good and he use everything he learnt from SAF. I think the Cardiff move was wrong. Ole need to manage a big club imo.

We're only 11pts off 4th. If this squad is better than our current position which it clearly is and why we sacked Jose then it's more than possible of closing that gap under the right appointment.

Mental that some of you are writing the season off

They must be mentally ill if they dont, who doesnt respect a clublegend like him? He could probs help our strikers whos been pretty shite for quite a long time aswell which sounds promising.
That isn't much of an argument

Whoever it is, their remit should be attacking football. Simple as that. Entertain us.

I kinda feel like its a dream job for a manager like Ole right now.
Sure he can feck it up, but is expectations that high?
I dont think so.

I almost feel like if he plays some positive football he is good. And a great window if his ambitions are higher than Molde.

Manchester United is in a place now that we never been before(in my time as a fan). Noone expect us to win anything, so i think its a great moment for him.

The manager next year though, he better win it all.

You're having a laugh if you think we're getting top four now.

We have more than half a season left. We should have gone for a more reliable option. We cant do if else blah blah. We need wins. Why not Laurent Blanc? He has been out of job since PSG.

I can't get super excited about it really.

So it's going to be Ole then.

Would have preferred Blanc, but meh, it's only a caretaker role

It's over. We are sixth. We would require a highly unlikely good run of form as well as two teams above us to have a spectacular dip in form. It isn't going to happen.

The ESPN video with Ogden and Dawson was supposed to be posted IF Solskjaer got the job. Fake news :(

OGS appointment stinks of desperation/sentiment and is further proof our board are completely out of their depth. We should have had a backup plan in place months ago but apparently not.

Wenger plz

He'd play good football, get Martial/Pogba onside, give some of the younger players a chance and at least make us a live dog in the cup competitions which about all we can really hope for this season.

He'd certainly be far better than Blanc/Ole/Carrick.

Poch was nothing before he was something. Ole could be great or it ends with this caretaker role. I think the rest of the season will be exciting.

It’s December and we’ve sacked the manager. The management have pretty much written the season off with this interim manager appointment.

It’s basically saying we need somebody to just look after things until we can get things sorted for next season.

Top four is a bonus but I very much doubt it will be expected from whoever comes in.

If you think it is your expectations are unrealistic.

This the very same Mark Hughes that was just sacked by Southampton or is this another Mark Hughes?
