Lads, it's an interim appointment, I'm fully confident we have someone lined up for the summer
Because sentimentality aside, Poch is a PL proven manager that’s turned Spurs into a a consistent champions league side that plays attractive football, whereas Ole got Cardiff relegated. Why does Ole have to win the CL to get the job but not Pochettino? Equality, and all that...
Cardiff was a mess at that time though with the owners meddling etc. He was praised for how he setup and managed the Utd academy team and i don't think tactically clueless managers take a club to back to back titles for the first time in their history. Molde won one title since and that was in the season he left to take the Cardiff job so he had guided them half way to that one too. They finished 2nd behind Rosenborg in the last season.Heard a Cardiff fan say on the radio he was the worst manager in their history. That he 'picked selections out of a hat' and was tactically clueless.
Well let's see what Ole can do with a club/squad that isn't destined for relegation.Because sentimentality aside, Poch is a PL proven manager that’s turned Spurs into a a consistent champions league side that plays attractive football, whereas Ole got Cardiff relegated.
Yeah I’d obviously expect him to do better, but regardless he still has a lot more to prove than Poch to warrant the permanent job.Well let's see what Ole can do with a club/squad that isn't destined for relegation.
You're right. Logically it makes no sense. If he wasnt a beloved ex player we wouldnt have chosen a manager who was managing in Norway. He hasnt been chosen because he has got the skills or talent, its just because he's Ole. Lets see how this pans out.I have to admit I'm concerned. Fergie choosing another manager based on sentiment, one with little pedigree and a reputation for being a very poor defensive organiser. What could go wrong?
Did SAF went from St Mirren to the biggest club in the wolrd? no, went at Alberdeen and did wonders there winning European trophies and beating the like of Celtic and Rangers to the SL and got rewarded with a contract at a big club. So the comparison doesn't stand.Did Fergus prove his incompetence when he was sacked at St Mirren ?
What Ole faced at Cardiff is completely different to what he will face at Utd
Apart from the fact Norwegian league is a nothing league, Ole has already proven that he wasn't competent for the PL and failed also in the championship and was rightly sacked by Cardiff.Norwegian league is not a good barometer but Barca and Madrid b-teams are?
I guess it must be true as they say, that love makes you blind...
"To answer your completely illogical ramblings" .Good Lord.
To answer your completely illogical ramblings:
His managerial style is much like Fergies, in fact I would describe it as very, very good. When he first went to molde there was a record if poor discipline within the club with he rectified immediately.
Why hasnt he been linked with other clubs? That's a question that you have to ask the board at other clubs. Not our problem.
I think the Cardiff job was too early for him, plus as already stated the club was in the middle of a civil war and the owner had alienated everybody included players and fans, he then took over with the club in serious trouble. Literally ANY manager would have failed there. Besides which, every manager had to fail at least once in order to grow and develop. Just ask Brian cough and Leeds.
A nothing club like Molde? Grow up mate stop being do elitist.
Fighting relegation? In February no less.
Log off mate.
I liked Mourinho, wanted him to succeed Fergie and was happy we got him. However, appointing Conte in any capacity would look like a club with absolutely no idea what they're doing. Perhaps Chelsea reject was strong but we should go no where near.Whatever your opinion on Mourinho, it is absolutely clueless to call him a "Chelsea reject"
Like it or not, he's one of the most successful managers ever
Agreed. Appointment which pleases the club, and that was required. He is under no pressure at all. None. A good CL run would be superb for him, the players and the club. Hope we give the FA Cup a really good crack too.Bit of a low risk trail for Ole through the rest of the season. The season has already been written off, so the pressure is right off. But it gives us a chance to assess Ole, and can then either let him continue, or look at other options. Either way we have a long time to make sure we get the next appointment right.
I don't want Wiggy either, just saying facts are facts. Mourinho is one of the most successful managers ever. More than a Chelsea reject in fairnessI liked Mourinho, wanted him to succeed Fergie and was happy we got him. However, appointing Conte in any capacity would look like a club with absolutely no idea what they're doing. Perhaps Chelsea reject was strong but we should go no where near.
His defensive record at Molde is poor too. It points to a manager that can't organise a defence which is one of our major weaknesses. That's why I'm worried.Cardiff was a mess at that time though with the owners meddling etc. He was praised for how he setup and managed the Utd academy team and i don't think tactically clueless managers take a club to back to back titles for the first time in their history. Molde won one title since and that was in the season he left to take the Cardiff job so he had guided them half way to that one too. They finished 2nd behind Rosenborg in the last season.
I don't really see that there is a risk, he is loved by the fans and will try and play the way the club demands. We're not getting into top 4 nor are we getting relegated so it's a free hit. I think he'll bring back the feel good factor.
The international language of football? For Norwegian readers - why is he speaking English in that clip?
ImagineImagine if somehow Solskjaer restores the players' collective confidence and morale and we make it to the ECL final.
Imagine, even more, that we win it, twenty years later exactly, with the winning goal going in late, only for the commentator to scream, "....And Solskjaer has won it, again!!!"

Flip side of that is our defenders aren't exactly the envy of the league, so maybe we should focus on taking the game to the other team and hope DDG can bring back God Mode? His defensive record at Molde is poor too. It points to a manager that can't organise a defence which is one of our major weaknesses. That's why I'm worried.
Tbf if you put an attack minded manager in charge of a team expected to get relegated, it usually doesnt end well. How do you expect Pep or Klopp would do if they were in charge of Burnley or Huddersfield? Probably get relegated and these "genius moves" would be seen as head scratchers gone wrong. Some teams just need the Big Sam type of manager to save them, while other managers are just more suited to bigger teams rather than small teams.Heard a Cardiff fan say on the radio he was the worst manager in their history. That he 'picked selections out of a hat' and was tactically clueless.
Conte - Relegated with AtalantaFrank Rijkaard - Relegated at Sparta Rotterdam
Jürgen Klopp - Relegated at Mainz 05
Arsène Wenger - Relegated with Nancy
Claudio Ranieri - Relegated at Atlético Madrid (resigned before it happened)
Will people stop going on about relegation at Cardiff as if its a barometer for the rest of his entire fecking career.
If players think they have been stifled by jose with his style its their chance to prove they can win games attacking the opposition and keeping the ball and high pressing. His defensive record at Molde is poor too. It points to a manager that can't organise a defence which is one of our major weaknesses. That's why I'm worried.
It only applies some player. We dont need more proof of what valencia and the rest of the gang can do. If 10 years isnt enough than i doubt a few mths under the new manager would mean much.If players think they have been stifled by jose with his style its their chance to prove they can win games attacking the opposition and keeping the ball and high pressing.
Let's see how good they can be.
Because not everyone that plays football in Norway speaks Norwegian, but every Norwegian speaks English? For Norwegian readers - why is he speaking English in that clip?
That's rather the exception than the norm.I'm not suggesting Hiddink or Rafa but I'm merely pointing out that when you said that 'no unemployed manager with some reputation wouldn't accept a 6 month contract ever' you were wrong and I have provided 3 examples which prove that you were wrong.
It wasn't last year though, with the same players. I really think it's a confidence issue. Bring back the joy in football, give the players some confidence and we'll improve rapidly. His defensive record at Molde is poor too. It points to a manager that can't organise a defence which is one of our major weaknesses. That's why I'm worried.
This... Phelan coming back with Ole slightly makes this an acceptable move. Ole will have good combination of past (Phelan) and current (Carrick) tactics at his disposalPhelan's coming home, he's coming home, he's coming. Genuinely more excited for him being back than Ole, it's absolutely hilarious, and he's probably like a pig in shit right now, can't believe his luck

This isn't a long term appointment, so I don't think it will turn out to be traumatic. Worst case scenario, he will do a 15/16 Hiddink with Chelsea and finish an underwhelming 10th place with no significant achievement.Did SAF went from St Mirren to the biggest club in the wolrd? no, went at Alberdeen and did wonders there winning European trophies and beating the like of Celtic and Rangers to the SL and got rewarded with a contract at a big club. So the comparison doesn't stand.
And yes, what he faced at Cardiff is completely different to what he will face at United, surely more pressure and more problems and difficulties. If you struggle to drive a Toyota, I don't see how you'll going to drive a Ferrari like Schumacher.
Apart from the fact Norwegian league is a nothing league, Ole has already proven that he wasn't competent for the PL and failed also in the championship and was rightly sacked by Cardiff.
So who is being blinded by love here? you or me? the irony.
"To answer your completely illogical ramblings" .
No one is hard to reason than an United fan defending his new manager, then fast forward the same fan will be blaming Woodward for being clueless. Like I said, I have a feeling of a deja vu with this, so nothing surprise me anymore.
Let's just hope things turn good and he succeed here, no need to argue against each other, Mourinho is not here anymore.
Yeah, it doesn't apply to players like Valencia, young, jones, smalling, rojo, type players, but probably true for the rest of the squad. Players are on spotlight. It only applies some player. We dont need more proof of what valencia and the rest of the gang can do. If 10 years isnt enough than i doubt a few mths under the new manager would mean much.
DrilloOle is great. Don't forget Norwegian managers has a stellar track record in the Premier League and Championship.

Because they have foreign players as well. In that clip (from 2011 - I think) he's adressing a Nigerian and probably a Brazilian (and a Swede). For Norwegian readers - why is he speaking English in that clip?
