I have no idea why these former world class players with cushy pundit jobs even try management at all.If I'm a Sky pundit I'm never taking up a managerial position.
Ego.I have no idea why these former world class players with cushy pundit jobs even try management at all.
I think they probably miss being actively involved in the game, it is a weird type of career that ends at 35.I have no idea why these former world class players with cushy pundit jobs even try management at all.
I think this is much worse since with Neville he had never lived or played in Spain. With Henry he went back to the club where he started his career at.Is it Neville Valencia bad?
Neville had some ressemblance of a squad though. He just got Falcao back, had to sign 40y old center backs and have around 50 injured players.I think this is much worse since with Neville he had never lived or played in Spain. With Henry he went back to the club where he started his career at.
From their new signing no less.Should be mentioned, Monaco had an early red card in that game.
And he speaks the bloody languageI think this is much worse since with Neville he had never lived or played in Spain. With Henry he went back to the club where he started his career at.
Why have the pundits not told him that he just needs to make the players smile. It's all Ole has done after all.
I doubt money and job security are at the top of their list of concerns.I have no idea why these former world class players with cushy pundit jobs even try management at all.
Tactically I'm not a fan, he uses a back three that looks more like a back 5, there is no width, no pace, no pressing, no aggressiveness. Even when you take into account the injuries and players living on undeserved reputation, tactically they have no identity, it's difficult to spot the game plan.Any Monaco fans give us an insight into what’s going wrong there tactically??
And the money. Yeah, they got a lot of money during their playing career but wouldn't say no to a few more millions. If it goes wrong, then the pundit job welcomes them back with open arms.Ego.
Strasbourg also had one although of course after the game was already decided.Should be mentioned, Monaco had an early red card in that game.
A Monaco fan might be able to offer more insight but having watched them for about the last few games now (before today/yesterday which I missed) they appear to have no clearly definable playing style (that I can see) and a lot of talented players recently signed who don't appear to be taking what is a good opportunity to further their careers, particularly Golovin but also Tielemans to a lesser extent (despite scoring recently there are still very few highlights of his performances this season).Any Monaco fans give us an insight into what’s going wrong there tactically??

But it's worth mentioning that some of the players that I see listed aren't good players, they are bottom league players. The likes of Tielemans, Chadli, Raggi, Ait Bennasser. I don't know what to make of Golovin and then Falcao is naturally declining while Sidibé most likely killed his career by not getting the surgery, apparently he hasn't been able to train properly this season.
Just seems such a shame - I guess as a pundit I never really thought he was a very smart man but I would have thought the experience under Martinez and just his general aura and ability to relate to younger footballers would have at least led to a spike in motivation levels.A Monaco fan might be able to offer more insight but having watched them for about the last few games now (before today/yesterday which I missed) they appear to have no clearly definable playing style (that I can see) and a lot of talented players recently signed who don't appear to be taking what is a good opportunity to further their careers, particularly Golovin but also Tielemans to a lesser extent (despite scoring recently there are still very few highlights of his performances this season).
Most of them appear to lack the character to deal with a crisis or stand up and be counted in one and so going forward despite adding Fabregas (who was always gonna take time to settle) they don't look in any way convincing probably because they aren't moving the ball quickly enough or instinctively enough with purpose.
All this is of course compounded by the fact that they are defensively terrible with no leader emerging there either so far.
A large part of this could be poor coaching but appears to be exacerbated by players hiding and not taking responsibility.
Or maybe Alladyce himself, he needs a bit of sun.Monaco were mental to hire him. You don't take a gamble on an inexperienced manager when you're heading towards relegation. You can do that when you're in a position where you have little to lose and everything to gain, like us with Ole. Not when you desperately need a massive improvement to avoid relegation. They should've hired a French Allardyce or someone similar.
And no taxes.Or maybe Alladyce himself, he needs a bit of sun.
You don't want Tielemans and it's borderline shocking that you mentioned him.At least Neville didn't get Valencia relegated! Hope they go down so we can pick up Teilemans and any other decent youth players.
His was one of Europe's best up and coming midfielders before Monaco, everyone was saying what a great signing he was. One bad season doesn't write him off completely. You don't want Tielemans and it's borderline shocking that you mentioned him.
It's not one bad season, his reputation is totally undeserved. He wasn't up to it last season and isn't this season either, he doesn't really have any special qualities other than a good shot. The only thing that saves him is that he is young but if you judge his on field performances it's a very average Ligue 1 player. His was one of Europe's best up and coming midfielders before Monaco, everyone was saying what a great signing he was. No Mourinho effect? Disappointing.A Monaco fan might be able to offer more insight but having watched them for about the last few games now (before today/yesterday which I missed) they appear to have no clearly definable playing style (that I can see) and a lot of talented players recently signed who don't appear to be taking what is a good opportunity to further their careers, particularly Golovin but also Tielemans to a lesser extent (despite scoring recently there are still very few highlights of his performances this season).

Well, the contexts are totally different. United had good players not playing at their best while Monaco has bad players not playing well while the best players have been injured for the better part of the season. Also Monaco lost most of its key players this summer and didn't replace them with equivalent players. The issue with Monaco wasn't the manager and they replaced him with a worse one.No Mourinho effect? Disappointing.
It’s interesting how the lack of character that was described in our own squad as a given, has seemingly evaporated with a change of hands, while at Monaco it seems exacerbated.
He'll most certainly leave at the end of the season along with a few others if they go down. Weren't Dortmund interested in him before the Monaco move? I'd be interested to see how he'd do in a team like that. It's not one bad season, his reputation is totally undeserved. He wasn't up to it last season and isn't this season either, he doesn't really have any special qualities other than a good shot. Agree with @JPRouve on this...Tielemans' apparent reputation as a supremely talented midfielder is a bit undeserved if you chart his progression in recent years. He was fantastic for his age as a 16-17 year old, no doubt about that, but since then he hasn't evidenced a whole lot of improvement in terms of his all-round play as a central midfielder to be a target for a club like United, aside from one admittedly good season at Anderlecht. This isn't to say he will amount to nothing, just that he isn't a premier talent from his age-group and doesn't seem to have the elite traits needed to become a top-notch player in the years to come. Sometimes a young player just doesn't develop as well as you would hope and the initial furore turns out to be misleading (like Anthony Vanden Borre — who was considered a comparable talent to Kompany for Belgium in the early 2000s but was overtaken by Vertonghen/Alderweireld in the years to come after tanking at Fiorentina). We will surely have better options in the market. His was one of Europe's best up and coming midfielders before Monaco, everyone was saying what a great signing he was. One bad season doesn't write him off completely.
