Good. Now he should go out on loan and pick good club where he gets good number of games.

Inb4 Redcafe meltdown.

Not sure about this actually. I don't think he's good enough as he hasn't shown it yet but he's still young. Most of us don't rate him on here but the club obviously see something in him. Regardless of what you think about him he needs gametime which he isn't likely to get here so we should farm him out on loan ASAP.

We all know Fletcher is Ferguson's son. Think it is fairly obvious that McTominay is Solskjær's son.

Cue the histrionics.

Good decision.
May I ask why you think it’s a good decision? Not being funny, just curious as to what people that rate him believe he offers to us long or short term. I guess we can give him the benefit under a new manager but based on what he’s shown thus far, I can’t get behind this decision.

He may well break through. Lingard was 25 when he made it. Give him time. He hasn't played much senior football.
At least there were some encouraging signs with Lingard, I fail to see anything from McTominay to suggest he's premier league level, let alone United level. I hope I'm wrong but he needs to head out on loan and get some games at his age.

Lingard broke through at 22, and it may well have been a year sooner had he not gotten injured on his debut.

Everyone's all in before meltdown, in before overreactions and such. But really, why? An absolute waste of time unless it's to secure a higher fee for him, anyone can see he's average, we just love rewarding mediocrity at this club with contracts for players that by and large don't deserve them or should be moved on. He isn't going to make it, and if he does, well then it isn't good enough, we should be aiming higher. There's nothing special about him at all, the only thing he has going for him over other players, depending on how you look at it, is his height. He's just dreadful, end of story, I wish we would stop with this crap and actually be ruthless.

very strange indeed. Its hardly a huge disaster, but it isn't like he has huge upside at 22

Scott McNothing. He wouldn't fit in at Wolves. I dont care if he is our Youth player. Keane was our youth player. McNair. Blackett. All dross who are not good enough. Its funny how Edward Woodward believes he knows enough about football to hand out contracts but when it comes to making new signings he wants to wait until we get a new manager. The leeches at the top are loving this. OGS in charge and our fans thinking promoting 18 year olds and handing out contracts to dross will win us a title. OGS could be the right man but some of you suffer with delusions. 'if they're good enough they're old enough'. The class of 92 had ready made stars in the squad to guide them. Who do we have? Come the summer and we only sign two players from these positions CB, DM, Fullback and a RW because we have 'youth'. We have Mctominay for DM. Chong for RW. Tuanzebe back for CB. Laird for RB. These excuses from our own fans play into the glazernomics.

Why?

Pointless move from the club.
Matic was playing for Vitesse at 22 and 4 years away from a move back to Chelsea.

The way the market is right now, him signing a contract guarantees us £15m.

Even if he never makes it its a good decision.

We need to monetise our academy if we can’t develop first team talent. We have more ex youth players playing professionally than any other side. That should be a source of pride.

It’s so hard in this day and age to produce top talent. But producing 5 C/PL level players and using their sale values to finance the first team squad is great.

Edit : Wages should always be sensible. We have absolutely fcuked that up in the last 5 years.

We all love to throw around our academy record but god forbid the club actually trusts an academy player to develop and gives him a chance to get a spot in the first team. That's just ludicrous.

Insulting the guy because he has the audacity of trying to get into the first team of his boyhood football club. An embarrassment to the fan-base.

He's not going to be good enough but for now he will do as a squad option. In 2 or 3 years we can offload him for 10 or 20m.

Yeah because we are really short of academy players in the squad. What a dreadful take.

Not hugely impressed by him but the club must see something we’re not. Darren Fletcher might be a better example of a late bloomer than Lingard, so maybe Scott can follow that trajectory.

All that matters is the wages he’s on. If they’re reasonable this is fine, if he’s nothing special we can hopefully sell him on eventually.

It's clear the coaches rate him and sees something in some that all of us don't. Hopefully he goes on loan to progress as he won't get gametime here.

You might have missed it but we've got three of those in our first choice front four never mind just being in the squad.

That record won't be broken anytime soon anyway because we've got 19 (excluding third GK) non-academy players in the squad (most of them being defenders) and that number will only decrease when we get rid of all the deadwood. We won't have enough players to make up an entire non-academy squad.

Doesn't really add anything given Lingard, Rashford and Pogba all fall in that category.

Phew! Chill out dude! It's half 3 on a Monday!

We've signed him because somebody that probably knows or see's more than you either see's potential in him or that we could sell him on for a decent fee should someone else come in for him.
