What next for Mourinho?

Despite the narrative on here that nobody wants Mourinho and he will be managing in the Portuguese 3rd division next season I'm pretty sure he'll land on his feet somewhere in the top five leagues. Possibly Inter if they get top four in the Serie A?

I'd like to see him take on a real project and reinvent his style. He is one of the greatest managers ever but has lost his way, his passion for the game was at an all time low at Chelsea and we were the worst club for him to take over as we were in such a low place ourselves. Misery loves company and it was only a matter of time for it to go wrong. Inter could be that place where he will invited back with open arms and the tactical side of the game is more important than free flowing football, I also think PSG could be a good fit as he will walk the league there, keep the players spirits up on a weekly basis and really get time to implement strategies and tactics for Europe.

It matters not a thing if he is still managing in one the top five leagues - so is Sean Dyche. The perception of Mourinho is changing fundamentally. He's been sacked unceremoniously at his last three clubs after losing the dressing room in each of them. At United especially everything was set up for him: a reasonable transfer budget (with which he wanted to make a Martial-Perisic/Willian swap, not to mention wanting to get rid of Pogba), a fanbase that were more or less patient with him in spite of his soul-killing football, and players who have shown since his departure that they have enough quality to challenge for the title.

At every club, it is the same story for Jose. He wants to be the center of attention and when things go wrong, everybody but him is at fault. Inter and Chelsea are his level - clubs that don't have a long history of expecting to win every competition they are in - and even there, he doesn't last for more than 2 full seasons. Madrid and United are elite clubs and his time at that level seems likely at an end.

He deserves it too, the miserable fecker. Maybe Tottenham will take him when Poch finally decides he's had enough of his boss' lack of spending (he is showing every sign of it too). But I wouldn't wish Mourinho on even Glaston - though they fit together beautifully in their complete lack of self awareness.

Levy would never hire Mourinho. Mourinho would have had a breakdown if Levy did what he did to Potch in the last two summer windows.

Inter have started to win domestically since the foundation and has had a long story of successes with several winning cycles during 111 years (never relegated), its the second most successful italian club in Italy and the second most successful italian club in the european cups/Intercontinental cups. Revenues aside there’s nothing to envy to anyone like United that have actually a really similar story.
About Chelsea everyone knows that they became relevant and successful only since Abraomovich came in 2003

His problem is he has become too self-centered in recent years. Throughout his United tenure, it felt like he was waging a propaganda war for himself using our club as a platform, and not really associating himself with our club. The three fingers, the "more league titles than 19 other managers", the football heritage comments, the twerking for PSG prior to his contract extension, his personal battle with Chelsea fans, etc etc --- he just didn't seem to involve us in his activities, it was all about him.

He has no love for any club he managed, rather he rates a club by how best they serve his purposes. That is not to say he was always like this, as clearly he had bonds with Chelsea (1st time) and Inter, but he's changed now due to recent failures.

I don't see how in 2019 people can still think PSG and Jose makes sense? I just don't see it at all, it would be a baffling decision. At least I could understand the Real link on a certain level because of their history together.

They want the CL, he’s won 2 CLs.

Nearly a decade ago. He's not made a final since has he? Or come all that close in recent times.
Consistent semi appearances is still a hell of a lot better than their current record. Granted, Sevilla was a huge blot (and so was Chelsea’s exit in 2014).

For what it’s worth, I do think they value the style of play, and having a hard taskmaster in their dressing room is a disaster waiting to happen, but not unthinkable to see them desperate enough to chance it on him if their current CL run continues.

I wouldnt worry about his future to much, he will find a gig at some point, from financial stand point, even less worry, he is really good at extracting money from others and selling his side of story. He won things in the past and nobody can take that away from him, just not sure in current climate can he swim as he was X years ago, because think he should change his ways a bit.

All in all, his future success or failure has nothing to do with us, he had his chance and we all witnessed what he is done with it.

I think he'll move to Inter were he will end up ruining his legacy there as he did with Chelsea.
I think inter is a less pressure environment than Chelsea. He will get a squad and environment there who just follow his orders to a tee.

Haven’t our resident French fans said that style of football is extremely important to PSG and it’s owners, so they’re unlikely to go for Mourinho? Think it may have been @JPRouve or @kouroux

Doesn’t every fan say that (including us!)? That goes out the window when desperate, and PSG may be willing to take a punt for a CL medal.

That is a fair point, I just seem to remember them being extremely adamant about it. That being associated with a positive, attacking team is extremely important for the image that PSG’s owners are trying to create for themselves. We could ask the resident PSG fans as well but I can’t remember their names

@BBRBB is one I think.

He should take on a mid-table team where he can be certain that he has the biggest ego and people would worship him as the God he thinks he is.

Inter is the next step for him if Spalletti is sacked. Bring in Godin on a free transfer (the deal seems to be done already), who will dominate in Serie A with a deep defensive line under Mourinho. Sell Skriniar and Icardi to bring in cash to strengthen the squad in other areas. The squad seems to be full of Mourinho type of players, and I can see him having a few good seasons with Inter.

Even if this was the case (I don't think so), why would anyone take a punt on Mourinho in 2019 to win the CL? Sounds rather counterproductive if anything.

According to PSG's mouthpiece in the press there are several issues. They don't like his style, they don't like his attitude toward the hierarchy and they were highly unimpressed by his games against PSG, in particular when Chelsea lost against 10 men. Of course, you can never say never but allegedly they see him as an has been.

His recent CL record is pretty shit.

Fergie's been to a CL final more recently than Mourinho and he retired 6 years ago.

I don't think he'll ever go PSG.

All that may be true but Real Madrid were apparently about to hire him before Zidane shocked everyone and decided to go back so it's not like he's not getting any offers from big clubs like some people in here are claiming. Like I said, a return to Inter could be on the cards as he's adored there.

If Khelaifi can break a door with his bare fists Bruce Lee style as reported after our win against them, I think Jose would keep his mouth shut, eh?

An other thing about PSG is that they are always portrayed as a club that would sack managers quickly but outside of Kombouaré all the managers were allowed to finish their initial contract. Ancelotti resigned to join Madrid, Blanc was extended at the end of his contract but they ultimately decided to move on and Emery finished his contract. I suppose that Tuchel will stay as long as he wants to, his first season is better than Emery's.

Mourinho has a cult like following. This group of followers will like us to believe that he's one step away from another big club like Real/ PSG/Chelsea/ Inter. Now that Real is off the list (and Mou didn't get the job even after a complete meltdown at the club), the followers are back saying that he will be appointed at PSG/ Chelsea/ Inter, reason being he won 2 UCLs a decade ago, but conveniently forgetting that after that, he has been unceremoniously sacked 3 times at 3 different clubs.

This is a bit like some of the Wenger fans who thought that after Arsenal, he will be immediately lapped up by PSG/ Barcelona/ Real. No signs of that as well.

Agree with all this.

Of all the supposed "big" clubs the only one I think that might take him back is Inter because he left there on good terms. I don't see any other top club being interested, he brings too many problems.

Inter are the original muppets. In fact they separated from AC Milan because they wanted to sign those shiny foreign signings at a time when Milan wanted to sign Italian players only. Inter fans are among the most demanding supporters in Italy, they are as deluded as Liverpool fans and they just love a conspiracy theory.

You're right, Mourinho was also mentioned as a reason why Mbappé or Neymar would't even consider joining MUFC.

I could almost pity him that noone likes him nowadays.

I think his next move would have been to say that he turned the Real job down, so ZZ was second choice, but the comments coming out of the Bernabeau about senior players in the Real dressing room said they didn't want him back and vetoed the move make that unlikely.
He might still try to do that though unless he decides to just keep quiet about it. Not really in his nature though.
Madrid senior players? How many of them were even around for Mourinho's tenure? Marcelo, Ramos, Modric and Benzema? I'm not sure why the latter two would have a problem with Mourinho, especially Benzema who Mourinho preferred to Higuain (I think).
