Magical Manchester United.
This is very bad news for the summer. If he departs, we are in need for two central midfielders, and even replacing him will cost us 30-50m in this market easily. As we're not seeing any transfer fee as well, a lot of money will go into the CM signings, and we may lack the financial power to sign a much needed RW as well. Big blow for Ole, and incredibly stupid by Ed or whoever failed to offer sound terms long before he got into the last six months of his contract. A certain portion of blame lies on Mourinho as well, who failed to use him to his strengths for a very long time. Incredible how he's still fecking us up despite leaving in December!

Well, we'll need to then purchase a CM as well, having let go of both Fellaini and Herrera?
McTominay is the Fellaini replacement. less clumsy fouls and will eventually develop into a goal threat.

No matter what you think about Herrera, he's one of our best players. He's our constant big game player.

Brilliant business by PSG to get him on a free to be honest. Our massive loss.

One of the reasons he's supposedly looking elsewhere is the fact he's been given information regarding Uniteds upcoming transfer strategy which will likely include the purchase of a couple of first team midfielders.

There's no doubting Herrera's heart and determination for us.He generally gives his all and his off-ball ability is there for all to see.The only issue I have with him is his on the ball quality.
But,as a fan,I would rather have him in the squad than not.

We're still going to need to sign a starting quality CM though. Which was not as big a priority as RW, CB, RB & DM, IMO. We could try signing Rabiot on a free. Though his wage demands will be more than double that of Herrera, most probably.

Herrera isn't starter quality. Fred does similar things and having both seems redundant. If anything we might actually sign a midfielder who offers different qualities.
Not once at our club has he done 'similar things' to what Herrera does.

Why do I feel like this is just them running the story because They hate us (for losing the last 16)?

Total nonsense. Herrera doesn't have a connection to PSG, won't be a flashy signing, is 29 and loves ManUtd. But I read it somewhere that Darmian has been a proper PSG fan since He was a child.

If he goes then it basically increases the cost of what we need to do this summer by 60m at least. That's how much he'd be if his contract wasnt expiring. Hope it's not true anyway. A step backwards for us as hes one of the few who is tidy in possession under pressure because his technique and quick thinking is one of his strong points. We'll see though.

Herrera is a leader and gets this club. He offers us great rear-guard in the big games in a way that no-one else in our squad does.

Players like him are vital in building any successful team and we would be foolish to let him go, especially for free and especially given the limitations our squad has.

I love Ander but if he isn't a DM then his lack of technical ability going forward really hurts us. Unless we find a Busquets then it's his position that needs to help Pogba creativity going forward or we wil see our midfield thrust neutralized time and time again when Paul is marked out of games.
Ander isn't a player we need if we are looking to play on the front foot even though it sucks he could be leaving on a free.

Excellent news. Think it's win-win for everyone.

Herrera, loyal servant to the club gets a good long term deal from a well run club in a nice city.

United now forced to get an exciting new midfielder in to replace Fellaini & now Herrera. Someone who can command the midfield & take to the EPL better than Fred. Someone of proper United quality.

Yet I reiterate that I'd rather have him than not.

Has been my favourite player the last few years. It hurts that he wants to leave to join that PSG team.

Don't blame him if he wants to leave. We've not exactly made him feel wanted by letting his contract run out.

A good deal for everyone involved. Herrera is getting on a bit and has only ever been good for United as the terrier in a three man midfield. Getting rid of a limited player and signing a more flexible player, or someone who specializes as a DM, or is able to play in a two man midfield, is the right way to proceed onwards.

It’s not hard to see why he didn’t renew before. He was in and out under Vangle, and was out almost all the time under Mourinho, with the exception of if he wanted to wheel him out for a man marking job.

He’s only been a prominent member of the team again since Ole came in. While he may like the club and be a leader and whatever else, it’s not hard to imagine why he would consider going elsewhere.

He might feel he is going to a club that is more likely to win trophies, even the CL. We cannot even guarantee from season to season that we will even be in the CL.

If he's as United through and through as he keeps saying he is, he'll sign a new contract. If not, we'll buy someone else, not the end of the world.

Would be quite typical of us to give contract extensions to deadwood like Jones but let Herrera go.

Indeed.

Like I said in the Pogba thread, players come and go, that’s the nature of the game. If he leaves he leaves, we hopefully get someone new and move on. That’s about it really.

Doesn't say much about us that PSG are a better prospect. I actually don't think there is anything in it. Either PSG shit stirring or Barcelona doing it just before we play them.

It would be a shame to let Ander leave on a free transfer, but absolutely not the end of the world. He is a bang average player with perfect mentality that always puts in a good shift in midfield, and compensates his somewhat lacking abilities by always giving 100%. I absolutely love Ander as a character, but we have to be ruthless if we are to improve the quality of our starting 11. We have similar situations with Mata and Valencia, both of which will probably leave on free transfers.

To put this the other way around, most fans would absolutely slaughter the club management if we were to bring in a 29 year old midfielder with 2 caps for his national team. If we are going to compete with the likes of Barcelona, who have midfielders that are nailed in the Spain starting 11, we cannot use Ander Herrera that isn't even anywhere near the squad. Spain has picked a 23 man squad for their upcoming games, and Herrera wasn't even in the discussion. I am not even sure that he would be included that if they were to pick an additional set of 23 players.

How is this a good deal for us? We'll need to buy at least two new midfielders. Our current Herrera backups are Fred, Mctominay and Pereira neither of which have shown anything near enough in a United to indicate they can replace Herrera full time. So that means we would be adding two more CMs, CB, RB and a RW all in one summer, all of which would cost a bomb, none of which would be guaranteed to perform as well as Herrera has.

It's not even about his quality. He still might stay and this might even all be just agent posturing but we've now left another contract to run down, negotiate at the last minute and seemingly have no plan what to do if we feck it up. It's just another indicator how much of a mess we are. There's no indication his potential replacement will be a success considering how recruitment in the last few years.

If it’s true (which we don’t know) it may not necessarily be for trophies. Maybe he just wants to experience a different club, or wants to have a go at living in France?

I like Herrera and I’d want to keep him but it wouldn’t the end of the world if he left. His quality on the ball isn’t good enough if we want to win the league and we can do better in that position.

Herrera had very good games, but under different managers he almost always ended up being in and out the team. If he doesn‘t want to be here anymore or fancies the bigger paycheck, good on him.

If he leaves we should be all over Eriksen. Much better player who‘s also letting his contract run down. Offer Spurs about 50 mil. and let Eriksen state that he wants out.
