Something doesn't quite feel right with giving Pogba £500,000 a week when he hasn't showed he will sweat blood in every game to deserve that, despite being world class when he wants to be.
If we were to go for players that are either British or realistic targets with PL experience then would this team have a hope?

De Gea
Wan-Bissaka Alderweield Lindelof Shaw
Rice
Doucoure Maddison
Sancho Rashford Martial
Jesus I dont like the look of that midfield three it just doesnt look good enough to me but the rest of the team is great.

For 200m

Rabiot (free)
Alderwield 25m
Ndombele 50m
Bernardeschi/Pepe 60m
Muenier 45m

With money from other outgoings we could use it to upset the fee for Koulibaly

And if Herrra gone for maybe say 35m then
B. Fernandez for 45m as replacement

Doucoure yes, but the other 2? Flimsy
Yup. The other two are nowhere near good enough. And I mean absolutely miles off being anything close to good enough. Dear god, it’s signing bang average players that has played it’s part in the mess we’re in. Why some want shite like Rice is beyond me. Schneiderlin looked a million times better than Rice before we signed him and he wasn’t close to being good enough.

Ah yeah I had Saul Niguez and Pogba in instead beside Rice in another XI, but I was just thinking if the likes of Tanguy and Niguez turn out to be impossible to get, and Ole decides to go with a British core and solid players from the PL, then who might he take a punt on if Pogba forced a move.
I don't think Maddison is ready but big talent. Doucoure is ready for a bigger club.
Ruben Neves also a possibility.

I'm pretty sure we will get £0m if Herrera goes. His contract expires at the end of this season.

If the budget is £200m, we have no chance of competing next season and it would finally confirm, if further evidence was needed, that the club has no ambition to compete at the highest level.

Not sure where to put this but everyone is aware how far we have fallen and the task ahead in the summer.

Solskjaer:

- Survival of the fittest, Survival of the best
- We have to be ruthless and need players we can take us forward
- Liverpool and City are too far ahead at the moment from what we like.
- Going to be hard work and there is going to be some tough decisions taken by Ole, Mick and Club.

That’s a fantastic midfield trio for a team hoping to finish in the top half of the table.

Amongst the options I'm a bit wary of are Rabiot with his agent-mom. (In Paris, the reports were that things went downhill when all was agreed with the player's salary only for his mom/agent to come in at the 11th hour demanding an extra 10mil on her fees).
The other player I don't understand is D. Rice, I don't see the hype or the obvious outstanding quality in him. (Very afraid that this is potentialy a Schneiderlin type signing).

Just because those 3 players currently play for mid table / upper midtbale clubs, that doesn’t necessarily mean they can’t help us win the league.

A team is a sum of its parts, and they are all quality players who can step up IMO.

I don’t rate Rice to be honest, Maddison is a Lingard we don’t need a second one.

the transformation will take 3 transfer windows, it can not be done in one window and one pre-season. Not with the current state of the squad and all that has been. I would say it would take 3x£300m, some very good transfers and a lot of good work the next 2 seasons. 2019/2020 will propably be an adjustment year with some unstability, while the next should prove a lot better. I guess this is why the contract with Ole was for 3 years. They plan long-term and will do the same regarding transfers. Propably some young and hungry talented players will enter the squad.

Usual dick swinging time by Woodward which ultimately will not result in the big talk matching his actions.

I remember last summer after beating City at the Etihad and finishing 2nd, I felt we could somehow bridge the gap only for him to get us Fred, Green and Dalot(wtf)...and then name drop Varane.

If we get 2 players from that purpoted list of transfer targets, I woule be mightily surprised. I am not buying Woodward's empty talk this time.
For the 100th time, the board buys the players recommended by the manager. Woodward is not a scout, he has no clue who Dalot is. The manager was busy requesting players at the end of their term which would have been ok like Matic but clubs were quoting high prices for players that are almost done. What do you all expect?

Fair enough, respect your opinion of course.

In my mind Rice is one of England’s best up and coming talents, and when I watch Maddison cross a ball, I am sometimes reminded of Beckham.

You may laugh at that but it genuinely does remind me of the old days of when we had an actual quality crosser of the ball and a set piece specialist. Watching Young against Barcelona reinforced the idea that we are deserpate for someone who is good in this area.

I do think there is more to Maddison’s game than just that too as he seems like a very accomplished passer of the ball, although I haven’t seen his passing stats or number of assists this season.

For me Maddison would be a great overall Mata replacement.

Actions speak louder than words. We’ve given new contracts to dross and are attempting to keep Mata at the club. I don’t buy into the talk.
Exactly. The very fact that we've attempted to renew a player who's done the square root of feck all over the past three seasons, and really for the majority of his United career should ring major alarm bells. We've also repeatedly played him out of position yet never learn from it.

We were linked to plenty of players that weren't 'almost done'. It seems to be a go to defence that Jose only wanted old and we didn't but it's evidently not true.

It's very easy to say "oh everyone was overpriced" but it was a cover excuse when Fergie did it and still is when Woody briefs it too

Bergwijn might be an option for the right attack if Sancho is not possible.
Seen him mentioned a lot, and admittedly I haven't watched him much at all (I think maybe 2 full matches). So my opinion is mainly based on highlight videos, some analysis videos and....that's about it.

But he doesn't strike me as "top tier" potential? That's just my uninformed opinion, of course. Do you think he's good enough?

Look any clown can name Thomas Partey and Ruben Neves as the 2 players we should have playing next to Pogba next season.

The whole point of the post if you'd read it properly was to wonder if there was anyone British or with PL experience and ready for a bigger move, worth taking a punt on if the superstars were not available for transfer as is often the case.

Not too many on here knew who Jason Sancho was a year ago. Not too many knew who Hudson-Odoi was a few months ago. Bergwijn has the attributes of pace and dribbling that Memphis never had which could suggest there's a rough diamond there for the wing. Very affordable transfer also. He might be nowhere near ready for top 4 PL level but if Ole couldn't get Sancho then Bergwijn absolutely might be worth a punt to develop.

On the bolded bit - for sure. I'm not questioning his "status" in the game. I, along with most on here, would actually prefer and love us to sign and create the next star ourselves, rather than just trying to buy established stars who might lack the hunger. So yeah. My question I guess, was more because of my lack of knowledge about him, as I've barely watched him and from the little I've seen - he's looked alright, but not "elite". But the second part of your response sort of answers me.

More like the manager gives a list of the players he wants and some other lesser backup options and our board go for the cut price options.

Manchester United is not an attractive place to be at right now, we have an inexperienced manager and an inexperienced squad. We haven't competed for the top trophies for half a decade now.

I get the feeling we won't just throw money at players anymore either (cough Sanchez cough) now with Ole in charge. It's going to be difficult to get everything we need this summer, I'd say Champions League qualification is the most important thing right now for us, without it it might be a very disappointing summer.

I really like this Joao Felix guy but if I were him and not a die hard United fan, I would definitely pick Juventus or Barca over United.

I've really come around to signing Alderweireld now. Seems like a no-brainer for £25m and our defence (Lindelof in particular) could do with a solid, experienced leader in the midst.

Likewise, Bruno Fernandes seems like a great option as a creative midfielder if we can negotiate a reasonable price with Sporting. Goalscorer and playmaker, would be ideal.

I don't see why we cant spend around 230 net considering how much our wage bill will be reduced. If we can get 60m in player sales then we could have a really good sum of money we could reinvest to improve the team.

I would personally look to sell Bailly for this reason in order to bring in an additional 30-35m and promote Tuanzebe as our 5th choice CB. We could even trigger Pereira's one year clause and sell him to generate extra funds.

Out
Darmian - 8m (80k)
Rojo - 10m (80k)
Bailly - 35m (100k)
Pereira - 15m (60k)
Valencia - Free (100k)
Herrera - Free (100k)
Mata - Free (100k)
Sanchez - Free (400k)

Total - 68m (1M)

In
AWB - 40m (100k)
Alderweirld - 25m (140k)
Neves - 70m (150k)
Bruno - 40m (100k)
Sancho - 90m (170k)

Net Spend - 197m (cut by 340k)

GET IT DONE ED!

Yeah, giving Jones, Smalling and Young new contracts, haggling with De Gea over his contract, the Pogba sideshow, rumours of a new contract for Darmian...

I call bullshit on this one*

*Ole and the club, not you Roonster
