How over the top are Sky talking up Arsenal here. The only reason they are in third is because they haven’t had the Champions League to worry about midweek. Emery has played second string in the Europa League all season.

I haven’t seen anything this season that suggests they have progressed from the Wenger years.
It takes less than 5 minutes to fact check that, to show how wrong you are.

We played our strongest available 11 against Rennes, had 10 men for most of the game, had a day less rest than you but still beat you 2-0.

The loaning of Suarez seems strange from an outside POV. Since bringing him in I don't think he's started one game, and he got no minutes today after apparently impressing in their recent friendly.

Wonder where he'll end up next year as I'm sure it won't be at Barcelona or Arsenal.
Can only guess he hasn't settled as Emery knows him from Sevilla. Thought Iwobi was awful tonight and was so sloppy with his passing so there's certainly a spot for him in one of the three behind the striker.

Start of the season did you really think they'd finish above Man. United and Chelsea? Most pundits I saw had Spurs finishing above Arsenal for a third straight season.

If they end in 3rd then Emery will have massively overperformed for his first season imo. Chelsea didn't have CL this season btw.

Good performance. They have the easiest run-in too. Top 4 will be difficult for us I think, I can easily see us potentially dropping points against Wolves, Everton, City & Chelsea.

yup, add the fact that after 31 games we currently have the same total as at the end of last season. I am not sure how our season ends, but we have improved. I am not sure there was more than a couple of pundits that had us in the top 4, and it is a definite possibility now. There is some way to go, but reason to be hopeful.

Wow, full strength against the mighty Rennes. Beating us this season is hardly an achievement, just like finishing 3rd and trophyless.

Wouldnt go that far.
Arsenal have a good team.
Maybe not as good as City or United but they still have some quality players none the less.

They were expected to finish behind Liverpool/United/City/Spurs, and probably Chelsea, too. New manager replacing someone who's been there for 22 years, first time managing in England, average transfer budget.

Third would be a great achievement. He's done fantastic.

It’s a weird one though because they’ve largely been shit and uninspiring, and I imagine frustrating for the Arse fans - but been also been pretty good. Great at times infact. Pretty much Arsenal for the last 10-15 years.

All the stats show that they are definitely better than last season. In fact, their current home run is their best for more than two decades. With 7 games to go they currently have 63 points, the same points they achieved the whole of last season. It's very obvious Arsenal have vastly improved under Emery.

Arsenal’s home record puts us to shame. That’s because they actually attack teams.

Thankfully, they can’t play away from home nearly as well and don’t have too many home games left. This top 4 race could go down to how many goals we can score against Huddersfield and Cardiff without conceding too many. It’s squeaky bum time, for sure...

A great achievement would be what Wenger done in 97 when he came into a new league and won it in his first season.
Thats a great achievement.
What emery has done is a good job nothing more nothing less.
Using the word "great" and saying they have "massively" over performed is a bit too much for me.

Is it over the top to say that OGS has done a great job so far? I won't use other people's words against you, but according to RedCafe's predictions before the season, Arsenal will have massively overperformed if they get third place. United had 12.5 times as many votes as Arsenal, Chelsea had 6.5 times as many votes as Arsenal and Spurs had 5.25 times as many votes as Arsenal. If RedCafe's predictions are representative of the football watching population in general, Arsenal will have done much better than expected before the season if they get third.

What happened to Santi_Mesut guy? banned at 38+ posts, what he do?
All I remember was he initially got warned and then banned by the mods for his melt-down on the Formula 1 thread, I don't know what happened and he was demoted to a newbie. Back to the discussion, Arsenal would get top 4 no doubt about it. Their win against us has given them the momentum to go on a winning run and they have always been very strong towards the end of the season when it comes to securing top 4.

Was watching Arse/Newcastle and noticed that Guendouzi spent a lot of the game (the early part at least) orbiting the action but not getting himself into spots where he could receive the ball. At some points he was actively not looking for the pass. Looked like he was having a very peripheral role.
What are the Gooners opinion on him?

Their away form is pretty atrocious, so certainly not a lock for Top 4 as many are making it out to be.

Europa League should hopefully make it more tricky for them given its on Thursday.

Had the pre-assist for the first goal and was generally involved in the build up without doing anything spectacular. He's still rough, wouldn't have him as a starter. But in a couple of years he'll develop into a solid contributor.

Fair play to Emery. Seems he has steered the Arsenal ship back to stability. However the real question is whether he can challenge for the league and all. Even Wenger used to routinely get top 4 before his last season.

If they continue to under-invest in the squad, they'll never win it.

I was thinking about that. And wondering if we all judged Arsene unfairly too. I mean, everyone feels Pochettino had done a very good job. Although Spurs spend even less than arsenal used to which is absurd.

I am very happy with Emery. He deals with our defensive injury crisis well, integrate Ozil back into the team. I am not sure if he is responsible for the transfer but we should do better. Monreal, Kos, Lichtsteiner and Sokratis are all over 30. To update our aging defense this summer with our rumored 45M budget is no easy task.

They will beat Everton with ease but struggle against Watford.

Remember their latest match against Watford at home, where they won 2-0 with two very late goals and Bernd Leno playing a blinder. Actually its a damn good bet to get on Watford in that game. Reckon it will be around odds 3.70-4.00

Now Fulham is relegated, I wonder if we should go for Ryan Sessegnon in the summer to compete with Kolasinac for the wing back position. Monreal's leg is gone and he should play as CB only.

Not sure how good a defender Sess actually is.

Can see Arsenal going for Wan Bissaka given he's London based but seems Manchester United also interested. Said before Tierney could be decent one to get, 20m and Celtic would sell.

Sokratis-Mustafi is easily the worst CB combo of any of the top 6 clubs, yes worse than when Jones-Bailly play together.

Their away form last year:
4 wins - 4 draws - 11 losses
20 goals for, 31 against

Away this year:
5 wins - 4 draws - 6 losses
26 goals for, 28 against

For those that thought it was just an unfortunate run of form or something. Theyve been dreadful away from home for ages. Even the year before I'm pretty sure they only won 9 of the 19 away games. They just suck away though they're really good at home. Luckily for us, they have 4 really tough away games left.

The overall quality level of the team is very poor. Emery keeps getting together jammy wins. I hope we make the CL one way or the other, Arsenal need CL football much more than Utd, who'll not be hit as hard by the financial loss.

I think Emery is the 3rd best manager in the league, he has done really well to get you here. But I suspect he won't get backed and you will continue to struggle.

You have him above Poch? I was laughed at for suggesting that a few months back there wasn't much between the two, but I do stick by it.

If those useless feckers Arsenal take a spot in Europe I'll be pissed. They get embarrassed every year they're in the competition. It's literally a waste of a spot.

Agreed. Spurs have shown more this year than Arsenal have in their last 3+ times in the competition.
