He's alright, not too bad.

If we can get a top CB this summer and sell Rojo & Bailly, then next season we'll have Lindelof/New CB,

with Jones and Smalling as back-ups.

Decent.

I see the consensus was he was our best player. Absolute shite defending for Barcelona’s first goal though. He continues, again and again, to show no intelligence. Of all the players in the world, he steps aside and shows Lionel Messi onto his left foot, right of centre, 20 yards from goal.

I can't help but get a bit frustrated when I remember he's just signed a new contract. He's an average CB that has as any good performances in him as he does bad. His face just really irritates me as well and reminds me of the mediocrity in this squad, is that bad?

Don't see how anyone could have rated that performance against Barca. His handling of Messi for the 1st goal was shocking, he looked like a deer in headlights. Smalling was tracking the run of Suarez and he got closer to Messi for a block than Jones, disgraceful defending. He got turned inside out by Messi when trying to man mark him, got dribbled past 3 times in the same sequence including a nutmeg.

This knockout tie has further enforced what many have said about Phil Jones, that he looks inept when playing against top players.

Please can we just pay him off and cancel his contract. He's still the same player we bought from Blackburn 8 years ago.

It's a good thing we are ruthless and have a survival of the fittest policy or else his new contract would have been until 2030.

At least he puts his all in. If they all had his attitude and willingness to put his body on the line maybe we wouldn’t be so crap

Apparently he had turned a corner and was going to stay injury free after signing the new contract.

He was probably the only guy in our team being up for the fight today. It is crazy how much he gets injured though.

He is a good player once he gets going, but yes you can't build a team with a player only being around for 50% of the games.

Delighted we've got this world class physical specimen tied down for the next 4 years.

Yet more wonderful business by Man Utd.

22 appearances this season and that's probably it. Any news on his injury?

The contract we gave to him was absolute madness. We're an idiotic club. We'll I'm not surprised by that fact anyway.

The contract was one of the most shocking decisions made in probably the last few years. And to think that some of the fans do believe it is ok and he is a good backup player. He can barely stay fit and it was a golden chance to get rid of the crock.

His reaction at first goal is Phil Jones classic. Just stands there and guarding nobody. Top defending

I'm starting to think he might not be the next Duncan Edwards.

I still can't believe we decided to offer him another 4 years at Manchester United, I just can't. He must feel like the luckiest guy in the universe.

Next season is his season!

In all seriousness, it’s a joke he’s still at the club. He wasn’t good enough 3 years ago and he’s still plodding about. feck off

He is one of the few players we got with the right attitude. His fitness is his problem, but when he play he is normally very good.

Not sure why we can't make him play for any longer spells though. Hopefully it can improve in the future, but we have said this for years.

Interesting stat from an article full of interesting stats.

Phil Jones is the pass master
De Gea’s struggles this season have been attributed in part to the defence in front of him, with Phil Jones often singled out for criticism. His buccaneering approach to defending is not always popular, but the accuracy of his passing cannot be called into question. Jones has completed 93.1% of his passes this season. Even though he keeps his distribution fairly simple, that percentage is still impressive. When compared against players who have made at least 10 league appearances this season, only John Stones – a defender renowned for his composure – boasts a better pass completion rate (94.2%) than Jones.

We'll keep offering him contract extensions and he'll no doubt, be MUFC captain in a few years.

Some funny comments:

I think under Pep and a good fitness team Phil Jones would be the best defender in the league.
