With Mou we would have ended up 8th ot 9th.

Ole improved us and made us compete with the big 3 London teams.
he was sacked before our easiest run of games of the season. Ole came in at the right time, we recovered...had 2 or 3 great results.

now we are in one of the worst run of results in the clubs history. to say Ole has improved us, is complete nonsense, the football under OLe has been absolute rubbish, now the results are too.

Regardless of whether Ole is the answer Mourinho has already proven that he was not.

But no Mourinho is never shit right?
He lost the dressing room at Real and Chelsea - not his fault right.
He stunk up the place here instead of at least fecking trying to motivate the players. And don't get me started with him trying to sabotage our season with the weird lineups - McTominay playing as a CB like wtf
Please get your head out of Mourinho and Lukaku's asses
I'm not going to say Mourinho didn't self destruct with us, but, he's also won the PL recently. We haven't. The guy you replied to is right. Mourinho isn't the problem, United is the problem, and Mourinho couldn't come to terms with the failings of the club and either intentionally, or his nature, self destructed his efforts here in his third season.

The other thing to consider, and I think it's pretty much plain as day. United is not a destination without Fergie, or some natural childhood affinity for the club. Outside of Di Maria, Sanchez, and Pogba, we haven't been able to attract any world class signings in their prime. Di Maria was clearly about money, Sanchez was about money, and he miraculously fell out of his prime in 6 months. Pogba was world class, but I have a feeling Pogba was interested in United for marketing and social media reasons.

Since Moyes, the majority of our signings have been ersatz. Name all the players we've signed, Moyes through Mourinho, where we legitimately got the best person available who was elite standard and not just the best available, and or beat another major team to a highly sought after prospect?

Di Maria - Legit world class, but didn't want to be here, came for the money and left as quickly as he could.
Sanchez - Signed on belief he was still world class, but clearly isn't.
Martial - Was a sought after prospect we beat others to sign.
Pogba - Legit world class.

I don't think I am missing anyone else? You could maybe argue Lukaku, but I'd also argue that Lukaku is almost one of those ersatz type signings, the best available, but not necessarily the quality we'd like. Oh, and Fred, we beat City was it to Fred? Fred was ersatz too.

It seems pretty clear to me, since Fergie left, and even before Fergie left, we were struggling to find the quality replacements the club needed. Under Fergie it was no value in the market, under everyone since, we've had the money, and we still can't get good signings.

The difference with Mourinho is that he had significant input into building this appalling squad then moaned that he wasn't allowed to buy even more dross.

If he was an outsider observer i’d say yes he got it right. But he was our manager, he contributed to this, like the previous managers.

But the biggest problem at the club has been filling the vacuum left bu SAF, it’s still not been done after six years, we’re still incompetent and it might still get worse before it gets better.

Care to remind us what position he took us to last season and how many points we gained.

We went from second to sixth under Mourinho and were miles off the pace when he left, how did that happen ?

I have no idea of others top six transfer spends last summer but I’m positive no other top six managers would have been backed to the tune of half a million quid a week wages for a player.

Agree with you about the Sevilla game but how can anyone fluke a 2nd place finish over 38 games.
Both Chelsea and Arsenal imploded early on. Thats why it was so easy for us to gain 2nd spot.
edit:

This was the table in Jan 2018 before Chelsea's implosion
Code:
1. Manchester City: 62

2. Manchester United: 47

3. Chelsea: 46

4. Liverpool: 44

Chelsea actually imploded late on, granted that helped us finish 2nd in the end but our points total last season was very respectable (especially when we basically gave up after beating City)

How is that an argument? We still finished ahead of them.

It’s easy for the Sacked One to be right when he was a major cause of our problems.
Well, the problems existed before Mourinho arrived, were curved to an extent while he was here, for a season and a half at least but then crept back in before causing a full blown meltdown from him.

Jose was a victim of the problems that already existed rather than the cause of. He did, in the end, become toxic and had to go, but it's unfair to pin the blame on him for the problems.

A similar story is unfolding now, although at a much faster pace. Ole brought it under control early on, covering up all our issues but as quickly as it happened, the same issues have come right back. Ole will be victim to it, sadly. We are now in a situation where we have no CL to offer and unlike the last time we were in this position, we don't have the pulling power of a big name manager. So ideas of mass clear outs and rebuilds are going to be severely disappointed as each of our dream targets goes elsewhere...

He got Bailly, Lindelof and Sanchez.

He was backed and couldn't get a tune out of any of them.
Ole hasn't got a tune out of Bailly and Sanchez either?

I get why people don't feel otherwise about Mourinho given the way he behaved but come on the times come to say despite the way he handled things he was right. He was right about how the clubs run, he was right about Pogba and he was right about Martial

Other than Perisic and another CB he got everything he wanted. And he is not the first manager to not get all the signings he wanted.
Thats the thing. Someone should post that article from last week.
He wanted Perisic, Dier , Lindeloff,Lukaku and Greizman. But we ended up buying Lukaku with no one to play crosses to him.

In a way, it makes sense. He wanted to play a particular style and bought a player only to be denied the second key player who could actually make the first signing a success.

what does it matter what Ole does?

They are Mourinho players, bought to back his transfer strategy.

I personally think Mourinho was the right manager and there's still not anyone really in world football that would better him, I think it's what happens at woodward/board level that is wrong.

Over time, slowly, this will sink in for many fans.

One of the world's best managers, came in and was crushed by one of the most toxic clubs in football right now...

We will struggling currently to get a better level of manager

The common thought back then was that Dier was a smokescreen for Matic. And Lukaku is not even that type of striker. He is at his best when he has balls played into space that he can run into he is not the target man people try to paint him as.

Nah, he’s a shit. He tried to undermine Chelski but they threw him out but he still left them a season of pain. We should never have taken him ( I was totally against it) but should have said goodbye after the Seville game. By the summer he was allowed to play the full shite mode - we should have stopped him but instead we allowed his virus to percolate and become the pain of this season. Scumbag and con man.

If one can look past the toxicity and negativity that built up at the end, it's not difficult to see he was pretty much right about everything. If only Eddy Woody didn't decide he knew better than the multiple-title, multiple-CL winning manager and start playing Football Manager. Mourinho getting the players he wanted, regardless of whether they were 30 or not 'flair' players, coupled with less incompetence from Woody in negotiating prices and wages, would have seen us become at the very least, a solid team challenging for the title. Besides Guardiola and maybe Klopp (Disneyland anyone?), Mourinho remains the only manager currently available with the credentials and experience to turn this dumpster fire of a club around.

The hate on this forum is unfortunately so intense that people are posting everywhere with forced statements blindly defending Solskjaer when it's clear to anyone with any understanding of football that we are going downhill fast and Ole is not up for the task. Cutting off your nose to spite your face or summat. If Solskjaer deserves a chance, then Moyes should just be brought back to the club. At least he's done something in the PL besides relegate a team. Or we could just continue watching Ole's wheels fall off.
