@Rista

If we end up missing out on Jose we're absolute morons. That's all.

@golden_blunder

Delighted. Now I can feel excited again going into the new season!

Jose clearly loves everything about United too. Perfect fit

@Roboc7

Jose took on a big job and although he has made mistakes and probably could and should be doing better, like him or not you have to be pretty deluded not to see improvements in transfer dealings, injury record, performances and results.

Etc etc

The same views as Woodward & now the blame is on him and supporters turn a blind eye to the past.

LVG supports create their fiction whilst others creates theirs. Let's all just be in peace shall we?

One thing that @Kaglish10 may agree with me is that - we thought United were the likes of Barcelona & Bayern - open to a strong DNA & would be more open to LVG's styles and ultimate flaws but would not touch Jose with a barge pole. Instead the club is a money hungry short term success type of club that is built towards the Real Madrid and the Chelsea's.

I guess the fans can't be too different to the club and it was evident that whilst LVG was trying to build a solid basis of core possession & young players for Giggs to take over - the club and fans changed their mind and was begging for the short term successes of Jose Mourinho.

Fans were on the same wave as Woodward & for the ones who weren't - it's a proud achievement. A disaster of a mistake going from a possession based manager to one who couldn't care less about it and preferred to play without it.

He did build the new foundations at Ajax in Blind. He has been the key piece in that Ajax team. Without him they would have been out in the group stage.
wait what does Blind have to do with van gaal other than him signing him away from Ajax for millions in the first place?

Hey bud, glad you pulled that out. But just to put it in context, I argued to back Moyes, but when LVG came in I was delighted and in fact had a support LVG as my location. When he bored the bejesus out of me I thought at least we’d see some semblance of the ball going over the halfway line again. But hey, with hindsight all 3 appointments were shit so.. I’m a shit judge of managerial candidates. Go me!

He was there giving Danny Blind directions, whispering in his ear the night Daley was conceived
van gaal wasn't managing Ajax yet when Blind conceived Blind.

It was Cruijff who brought Blind to Amsterdam, so really it's just yet another golden move that works out for decades by El Salvador ;)

No he wasn’t managing but he was there laying the foundations. LVg transcends sense and logic.

If LVG plays a player in his side and that player performs very well for another team in the future then you need to give full credit to LVG. If a player is not doing well after being used and signed by LVG then it is the players fault for not following his instructions. To be fair LVG did start using Blind as a central defender and so it is not totally wrong in this case. Also he gave Ajax some money that they could use to buy other players too. In fact he has helped funding a lot of teams by buying players from them for a lot of money. We should praise LVG for that too that he overspend on players in order to help other teams.

I don't think their manager is doing any work. It's LVG sending him messages of team formations and tactics every game. When He forgets to send these messages they lose.

In the meantime... (about what he does in retirement, from an interview on uefa.com)

"I have developed a strategy for getting old with my wife and children and grandchildren. We are selling the houses we lived in, and buying new houses with hotel facilities. And in the best locations. Then I play a lot of golf and a lot of tennis. And I follow the football world. I watch the Premier League, the Spanish and Dutch leagues, and a little bit of the German league."

Fecker! You deserved it, boss! :D

A proud achievement

How exactly does "I told you so" work when that very same manager was a failure as well? LVG was a failure, bringing in another manager who did not work out does not make it a mistake. Otherwise hiring LVG was a mistake in the first place as we could have given Moyes more time and money to bring in his players.

Not sure how those quotes are helping your case either. I was definitely for Jose, he did well for 2 seasons and then it went tits up and he had to go. The equivalent of this LVG fan fiction would be me claiming Jose did nothing wrong and should have stayed no matter what, giving him credit for everything good and blaming Woodward and the players for everything bad.

All these fans who thought Jose was a great manager to go after LVG have the balls to say this is a fan fiction thread

All us LVG fans are doing is gladly smiling at the fact that post Jose we look less of a club than before

Love it. A fan fiction it is in both ways - one makes mistakes and then pretends like it never happened or never supported it

Love LVG & it's funny how that gets people so agitated on a LVG thread  they just can't leave us be and need to tell us how we were wrong without ever coming to the fact that their post operation of United after LVG was disastrous. ;)

Some fans are ultimately just Woodward version - going from LVG to Jose was a non footballing decision & some fans still think it was a good decision.
Hi Home&Away. Still fighting old battles, eh?

Yeah, its not like its just one short phone call to say, these three players have agreed. Do you want to sign them?
Oh wait:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...ster-United-sign-Luke-Shaw-Ander-Herrera.html

Poor LVG having these players thrust on him and not having any way to stop it from happening :(
So your scenario is that the board agree deals with Herrera, Shaw and Kroos. But then Kroos was away at world cup and thus the board fcked it up and Kroos instead went to Madrid and LVG was disappointed as the board thrusted two players onto LVG.

Or the more likely scenario is that the board agree three signings whilst Moyes was there, Moyes then went/sacked and then LVG was given the list, and he agreed two of the three whilst he vetoes Kroos:

https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ster-united-interest-toni-kroos-bayern-munich

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...s-cristiano-ronaldo-gareth-bale-a7493191.html

So basically its either whats been reported, and what numerous people have said here / hasnt been denied by anybody.
OR
Its your made up scenario which makes LVG come off in a better light. Hmm, I wonder which one it is?

Maybe I need to type: COLD FACTS. Maybe that underlines it better ;)

Right, so how many of LVGs were hits and how many were misses?

Ironic.

You know things are bad, when you need to defend LVG by bringing another manger into it. And calling Jose, 'my god'. Jose was a failure just like LVG. They were both expensive failures that were not suited for United. But the funny thing is Jose won more in his first season than LVG.
And finished higher in his second season than LVG did in his second season.
If we compare the two seasons directly, Jose got us CL football twice and two trophies, with dull football.
LVG got us CL once, and one trophy with dull and boring football.

You making up scenarios and passing them off facts to defend LVG is just too funny.
Comprehension problem I guess? Van Gaal said they were already on the list and he gave his approval. He didn't say they were on his list! He said they were on the list given to him. I will repeat that it's quite lame to have thought Van Gaal would have Manutd in mind while he was coaching the Dutch team at the world cup regardless of a phone call or not! It's ridiculous to even think he would think deep about a phone call from us while he was busy with the Dutch team. Anything spoken to him while he was on the phone would have been given the same ''yes, go on with it" response to whatever the board were telling him because he had an immediate needs to cater to. Come to think of it, Herrera was almost signed in the previous summer before the last minute.

Kroos on the other hand was yet to be signed while he was at the world cup or didn't you know Kroos played till the last minute of the world cup, just like Van Gaal did with his Dutch team? After the world cup, Van Gaal was in his clear mind to voted Kroos. If Kroos hadn't played in the world cup, he would have been signed. Besides, there was no way Kroos would have come here after Madrid moved in for him.

Jose won a Carling cup and Europa cup while parking the bus against a kiddo Ajax team, after splashing huge funds on Pogba, Bailly, Mikhitaryan. None of these players went below 30mil. Also, Zlatan was brought in to replace Rashford. The money spent in a season by Mourinho was more than what Van Gaal spent throughout his stay if you exclude Herrera, Shaw and Di Maria's sales fees to PSG.

Not minding the fact that he would have relegated us like he almost did with Chelsea and that was after he added the likes of Matic, Lindelof, Sanchez, Fred, Lukaku.

Season actually ended with Rojo at LB and Valencia and RB. TFM, Varela and CBJ all ended it where they began, not even on the bench. LVG bottled giving these guys their chance by ditching them for the same no hopers who Jose stuck with and who Ole may even stick with as well.

LVG seemed Zaha, Keane not good enough and promoted Blackett ahead of everyone else. They were both guilty of bad decisions.
Someone who didn't follow us I guess. CBJ was injured! Blackett was needed to play as a LCB because Keane couldn't play as one. Besides, Keane was awful against League 1 Mk Dons! Keane took many years of experience before he became the player he is today and he's still no better than Zouma at Everton. He wouldn't have become a better player if he had been on our bench because he was far too green. Likewise Blackett but Van Gaal was opened to giving him a chance because he was left footed until he showed to be not good enough.

Zaha is still not good enough as a winger! He's at his best as a SS for crystal palace today and there was no way he was going to usurp Rooney in his role. Blame Moyes for giving Rooney a 5yrs contract. There was no way Van Gaal would have benched Rooney. He hadn't even benched Rooney yet some of our fans were already coming up with the narration that it was Van Gaal who hindered Rooney from scoring plenty of goals. Some of our fans hated Van Gaal and backed Rooney who also believed Van Gaal was the cause of his ageing sluggish self. Funny how the subsequent coach, Mourinho didn't even give him any look in his team.

Let me tell you that the likes of Muller, Kroos, Badstuber, Alaba etc didn't all become starters at at a go, under Van Gaal. However in the subsequent seasons and before he left Bayern, they already became major players in his team hence the new coach couldn't easily push them away because they were already established players. Xavi also said there was a time he went from the first team starting lineup back to the academy after few games under Van Gaal. However, that made him to work harder to show Van Gaal that he was good enough and eventually he was back to the team once again and became a key player under Van Gaal. He said Van Gaal would tear him down after an awful performance but would be the first to praise him and call him "Zidane" after a fantastic performance. That was Van Gaal! It's no wonder Xavi said he was the coach who shaped to what he was.

In fact, Ribery said the reason why he hated Van Gaal was because he didn't accord him any respect and said every player is the same, regardless of your reputation hence you have to earn your minutes and that was why kids like Muller, Alaba, Badstuber, kroos were able to emerge under him. How I wished he had done same with Rooney but then, our fans were the first to turn on him and backed Rooney all because Van Gaal stuck with Rashford in the striker role and moved Rooney to the midfield. In the end, the Rooney that Van Gaal didn't want to disrespect by completely removing him out of his lineups was the first to turn against him. Such is life!

Jose spent more than lvg (if you take out some of the lvg signings)
Riiiight...

Lvg couldn't do anything to Veto signings for two players
Even though he gave approval and the signings were then done
Except it wasn't in your head cos it doesn't fit the narrative.

And Kroos, who had agreed to join United before the season ended, wasn't signed , but that can't be on lvg as he's been a success elsewhere' so clearly not lvg fault
Or something
I'm not sure cos you're making stuff up to suit your narrative and this fan fiction thread

You're only speaking to the air because the facts are glaring to the eyes. You mean a Dutch manager who had a world cup ahead of him was busying scouting Herrera and Shaw for Manutd? Wonders shall never end!

How could we have signed Kroos like we did with Herrera and Shaw when he was at the world cup compared to Herrera and Shaw who didn't go to one? It was only after Van Gaal was done with the Dutch team at the end of the world cup that he had time for us and fortunately for him/unfortunately for us, Kroos was also at the worldcup and was yet to be signed by the board who had already signed Herrera and Shaw!

And yea! Mourinho spent more than Van Gaal!

And of course they are facts in your eyes. I've been saying that all along
It's how these fan fictions threads tend to go

Then again you talking about his time at Barca and Bayern to try prove he was a success at United so there's that too

And this is where you are wrong.

There's a significant difference between attempting to shape reality to pretend that LVG was a success & to contemplate whether we should have continued to see what LVG could do.

Possession football however with a lack of creativity; first blamed on LVG"s tactics - something we see to this day. Young footballers used and positive results against the big teams to boot.

The thing is - if LVG had come after Jose's appaling season - then people may have been more patient with the whole LVG to homegrown manager plan we were building.

Instead what happened was the 'guaranteed success' type manager like Jose didn't do that & now many more fans know that United need time, a long term plan and even possibly be patient with a homegrown manager to build a club towards his own and the clubs DNA.

There was an injury doubt over Rojo but I don’t remember CBJ not being fit, just dropped like Varela. As a said none of them played in LVG’s Final game which is 100% true. Sadly you can’t criticise Mourinho in comparison for not giving players a chance when LVG actually let better players go. This is where your bias causes issues and undermines your own argument.

More wonderful fan fiction, poor LVG probably sobbing at night because he was so desperate to drop Rooney but couldn’t or there would be open revolt at Old Trafford. Probably only said my Captain always plays under duress as well. It’s devastating that ‘some fans’ held this club and LVG back, I assume all of these said fans then either disappeared or changed their mind as months later another manager was able to have a completely different view.

Brothwick Jackson was out for a month due to injury. It's ridiculous to expect him to come back to the first team and oust the player who's been solid in his absence. It's not like CBJ was already an established player that could waltz through the team anytime.

You know who's with the fiction? You! You should actually follow us first and come up with facts and not your imagination.

LVG brand of football was the most boring ive ever watched - i recall sitting in the stands thinking jesus ive paid for this and just wanting to leave as we passed it sideways, backwards sideways backwards.... . Not sure why we are even discussing him. Bore off LVG he made Jose,s dull football look like watching Brazil.

CBJ played in game 4 days before the cup final, so everything you said is nonsense. LVG picked who he wanted to pick which was Rojo, and Varela was already consigned to obscurity, even Darmian made the bench ahead of both.

The alternative reality you have created for ‘facts’ and ‘following the team’ is not what actually happened and that’s been proven repeatedly in this thread.

One minute he didn’t play because he’s injured, then he can’t be expected to be picked ahead of Rojo, next there is always ‘some fans’ would have complained. I get it in your fiction LVG never got it wrong and if he did it was someone else’s fault. Problem with the LVG character you have created it’s not really very believable he was so easily influenced by fans so much, even your fiction is wrong.

This is funny. You actually expected a young player who had only few games experience to waltz back to the starting lineups after a month injury? What do you think the team is? This is really ridiculous. Even an established player can't just waltz back to the team like that, after an injury.

And the likes of Rashford, Martial and Lingard were dropped off also, like you have imagined for all the young players dropped under Van Gaal

I never said he should waltz in just that he was available and didn’t even make the bench which is a fact. Rojo was the preferred option and even with doubts over Rojo’s fitness CBJ didn’t make the bench. What about Varela?.

At least you can now admit I was factually correct when saying CBJ, Varela and TFN all ended season not even on the bench.

It was mostly the same boring football under Mourinho, the only difference being with LVG we tended to have most of the ball and with Mourinho we tended to have less of the ball. So you could say we "controlled the game" under LVG but despite having all of that ball only had a few real chances. Whereas with Mourinho we didnt control the game, but had a couple of chances on really slow counter attacks. Both were terrible to watch

In last 6 years I felt more bored and disintegrated with UTD under LVG than any other manager. There was a time kicking my coffee table shouting at players to pass forward. so much meaningless possession game under LVG bored me to the death.

I get it in your fiction LVG never got it wrong and if he did it was someone else’s fault. Problem with the LVG character you have created it’s not really very believable he was so easily influenced by fans so much, even your fiction is wrong.

In Fairness, CBJ played quite consistently in his debut season for LVG up to his injury and he lost his spot another Youth player in Joe Riley! Which you conviently ignore in your slating of LVG and apparently having no interest in youth.

Yes its true then that Rojo also got starts and why wouldn't he? He's the more senior player, a player whom LVG bought after seeing him in the WC. If he didn't play Rojo you'd also blame him on that too. So lets call a spade a spade here, if he plays youth its luck and his signing's are failures, but when he plays the senior players its him ignoring youth? Very much a lose lose situation isn't it?

There was big games to be played and due to a horrendous injury crisis in the club from around Nov 2015 - Feb 2016 with 15 players out injured on average he had to rely heavily on youth and when senior players built up fitness levels were played again.

Did you really expect these young lads to play every minute of every game? Again if they were dropped he got abuse for it, when they played it was luck.

There has to surely be a feckin happy medium and some unbiased, clear praise at some point on either side.

Like the rest of the world I don’t count Riley coming on as a sub once for CBJ as losing his place but again that’s just the difference between your fiction and the truth.

LVG was good in 14/15. We were actually a decent side to watch.

Then he sold RVP, Rafael, Hernandez, Falcao and Di Maria. Replaced them with dross like Darmian, Memphis, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger and yeah... that was fecking painful to watch. 15/16 is probably my second least favourite United season ever (after this season). And we won the FA Cup!

He came on as a sub and played 80mins of the next match as well, to be replaced by the nearly fit and returning Rojo.

Feck me you are a sad, salty individual :lol:

How many times can people get things wrong and still act like a smart arse. CBJ was injured for that game so again like being subbed once saying he lost his place is just wrong.

Nice try though, you keep going.

I didn't say he lost his place, just that he was replaced via sub with another youth prospect.

But the narrative you and others like to post utter bs about is that LVG just go lucky with youth.

A 25 year career built primarily on promoting and developing youth across Europes best clubs in Ajax, Bayern, Barca and United.

But only at United can we find fans smug, clueless and arrogant enough to surmise his work with youth as "lucky".

I'd pay money to have this thread closed.

I can only imagine its because we are having such a crap season that people reopen LVG threads to remind us that things were (and can be) worse.
Please let it stop.
Won't someone please think of the children?

I'd pay to have the Jose threads closed. Its all just opinions & none of it is right or wrong.
